UAE and DPW trump US congress
While the House and today the Senate ranted over the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Ports World took matters into their own hands by divesting itself of all American interests. It just proves what I have been saying all along, "this was just business". DPW did not want to lose this entire deal because of the piddling six US ports involved. So they simply backed out, saying the US ports could be managed by a totally American company. Business, pure and simple.
Even in a political era in which hyperventilation has become the normal mode of discourse in Washington, there has probably never been an issue that inspired quite as much hypocritical speechifying as the storm over Dubai Ports World...The issue united both hawks and doves, and virtually every other politician with a pulse. Except, that is, the politically tone-deaf crew in the White House... source
Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) announced on the Senate floor shortly before 2 p.m. that Dubai Ports World would "transfer fully the operations of U.S. ports to a U.S. entity." Warner, who had been trying to broker a compromise on the issue, said DP World would divest itself of U.S. interests "in an orderly fashion" so as not to suffer "economic loss." source
Was our relationship with UAE damaged by the anti-Arab, anti-UAE statements by a large number of Americans? Is the UAE going to make us pay a price in one form or another? NO, because again this was just business. On Brit Hume's Fox News Channel panel today, Charles Krauthammer, Fred Barns and Mort Kondracke seemed to agree that in the future, maybe by purchasing airplanes from someone other than us, the UAE would make us pay a price. That's their opinion.
So what will congress do now after their ride on this anti-UAE train has come to an end? We will just have to want and see.

Now that the port deal with the UAE is pretty much dead, it's time to move on. No, I am still convinced that it wasn't that big a deal, and no threat to our security, and think that the protests and objections were mostly hype, and I still hold my suspicions that the unions were behind a good chunk of it. ...

I heard Rush say today that UAE ought to get Halliburton to take over the ports. What a GREAT idea!
