We have spent so much time talking about illegal immigration problems we have neglected to talk about the problems we have with legal immigration, specifically if the Senate bill gets passed. The numbers of 'professional' visas that are issued will be greatly decreased with the Senate bill, and the number of uneducated, unskilled people will greatly increase. This can bring about any number of problems here in the USA. See The Heritage Foundation for more information on this.
Cold Hearted Truth has one example of this type problem that already exists:
One recent story that is getting some press is about some violence that is taking place in the suburb of Eden Prairie. Now keep in mind that Eden Prairie is the suburbia of suburbia. Nice houses, nice people, nice schools, nice mall, nice , nice location. ...So... in one of those really nice clean parks, there have been over 400 separate police calls made over the past year. There is a fight or some form of violence virtually every day. The cause of said violence? A gang 'beef' between rival Somali gangs. The cleanest of suburbs can no longer keep their distance from gang violence due to legal immigration. Immigrants move into the state, start and join gangs, and then terrorize local citizens.
Now we can argue that this is the fault of society. If we simply did a better job helping immigrants feel at home, if we just gave them a better financial situation, if we just did a little more... this wouldn't happen. Well, that may or may not be true. But I can guarantee you this. If we didn't import a bunch of Somalis into our state, we wouldn't have problems with Somali gangs. More to the point - it's not just the Somalis that are causing these problems. We have had similar problems with the Hmong population and other immigrant groups as well. source
This is just one example in one town. We could probably find similar examples across the US. How much worse will it be if the Senate bill gets passed? The problems will potentially triple.
"We Can Be a Land of Laws and a Land of Immigrants" according to Capitol Hill Coffee House, but the President may need to shelve his guest worker program. I don't see that happening because he has dug in his heals on that topic.
Mexico is now threatening a lawsuit if the US puts National Guard on the border(via BlogmeisterUSA), but they can rest assured because the National Guard will NOT BE ARMED. Geesh! The lowest thing you can do is take away a soldier's weapon and send him out to do his job. What is Bush thinking? Oh, he's kissing Vicenta Fox rear end, that's what.
The Senate is now trying to work out a compromise bill, which will then go to committee. EtherZone reminds us that "haste makes waste", and they are correct. Rushing this bill through without giving it the proper thought and consideration, just for the sake of getting a bill passed, is wrong.
I suggest you all go to The Kreeper's Korner for a Comprehensive Review of President Bush's Immigration Plan. He takes it apart line-by-line and refutes the complete lack of truth. You won't be sorry, so click on over and read it.

Right,I'm now looking forward to Thanksgiving also.
What's interesting is the 1986 Reagan immigration bill was almost identical to the one trying to get passed now. Only problem is they just granted the amnesty and never enacted any of the prevention measures. Just like would happen today.
That's why we must seal the border first.

Na, the Senate doesn't mind if nothing gets passed because it maintains the status quo: slave-labor for the employers who contribute to Senate campaigns. The reason the Senate is considering decreasing the number of legal immigrants and immigrants with education is precisely for this reason as well. The reason the Senate will fight against any real enforcement is also for the same reason. Right wicked, these devils, eh? But I've no doubt we'll make sure that in November, illegal aliens will be doing one job no American wants to do beyond giving the orders: loading up the Senators' belongings and moving them back to their home towns ;) What a wonderful Thanksgiving for 2006.
