Immigration Roundup 5/3/06
The illegal immigrants who marched on May 1 seem to have had the opposite result that what they wanted. Phone calls, faxes, emails and financial contributions to the MinuteMan Project have been HUGE since Monday. Their phones are constantly ringing with offers of help, money, anything to get the border secured.
Red Hot Cuppa Politics has this: "Sound And Fury, Signifying, uh, Something ...":
Well, there was alot of sound and fury Monday ... but the significance seems to be a mixed bag. From the NYT's, today:WASHINGTON, May 2 — The nascent immigrant rights movement showed on Monday that it could build an organization, mobilize hundreds of thousands of people across the country and wield economic power.
But the protesters do not appear to have achieved their primary goal: changing votes in Congress. And some critics say the demonstration may have generated a backlash, hardening positions on Capitol Hill.... Go read it all here
Blogbat has several good posts about his purchases on Monday May 1 and also pictures of the criminal invaders. I tried to leave him a comment, but his site wasn't agreeable this morning. Could still be results of the hackers last night.
bRight&Early has an excellent roundup today on immigration in his "First Cup of the Day"
Captain's Quarters (Ed Morrissey) Illegal Immigrants Get Their Answer — "The May Day protests by activists for illegal immigrants have resulted in an utterly predictable backlash, according to the Washington Post. Voters have sent bricks to their Congressional representatives as donations for a border barrier, and even those who considered themselves liberals want the government to start rounding up illegals and send them packing:"In The Bullpen (Chad Evans) Illegal Alien Protest Backlash — "I predict there will be more fallout and this fallout will also hit the national stage. The so-called immigration protests, which in essense were nothing more than protests arguing for a giant amnesty program disguised as something entirely different, have been called everything but what they are."
Wizbang (Jay Tea) A fair trade — "One of the more popular arguments against a crackdown on illegal aliens has been the "do you know how hard it would be to deport 12 million people?" My standard reply has been "then we better start soon.""
Outside The Beltway (James Joyner) Backlash Against Illegal Alien Protests — "Still, I would not be at all surprised if the anecdotal evidence accurately reflected aggregate trends. This issue, along with gas prices, is a gut level issue that seems very uncomplicated and is backed by visceral passion. Anger trumps logic or ideology with voters."
The Uncooperative Blogger has some excellent posts, go read them all, but "May 1st Boycott Back On, Let’s Boycott ‘Cinco de Mayo’" is a must read.
I think U.S. Businesses should re-think doing business in Mexico, lets see how they like that idea!Mexicans living in the United States sent back home about $20 billion in remittances last year. That is money REMOVED from our economy, and fed into the Mexican economy. Do you still think they are helping our economy?
Did you know the Mexican consulate helps illegal alien invaders to sue our people, in our courts?
Okay Mexico, you want to play? I say we all Boycott Cinco de Mayo! That is the big May 5th celebration Mexico celebrates in which we consume huge amounts of Mexican food and products. So, on May 5th we will buy NO Mexican products this year. We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo by staying home and ignoring anything Mexican. Heck why don’t we extend this idea to boycotting Mexican products all together until this mess is fixed. No Mexican beer, produce, or any other product made in Mexico. Mexico should have stayed out of our politics.
Kentucky Dan has the following: "Pinko de Mayo"

My new gadgets work great! I hope we get another day without illegals too, so future gadget spending can also be part of my patriotic duty. ;)

America can't last without paying heavy prices if they deport 12 million lawn mowers, janitors, carpet cleaners, sweat shop workers, drug dealers, clerks, construction workers, and all the rest of the many jobs that these immigrants fill.
Hey Debbie would you fill any of the above positions? You want them out, so replace them in the economy.
