Palestinian calls United States enemy of Islam

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh called the US an "enemy of Islam," an Iranian news agency reported on Wednesday.  Yes, according to him the US is doing everything we can to keep Hamas-led Palestinian government from succeeding politically.  Blah blah blah   

We are "influenced by the Zionist lobby" and want to "attack Muslims" and we are wrong that there might be a "civil war between Hamas and Fatah". 

In another incident demonstrating tension in the Palestinian Authority, a Palestinian man suspected of collaborating with Israel was publicly executed on Tuesday by Al Aksa Martyrs' Brigades gunmen. The man, Jafal Abu Tzrur, was accused of informing Israeli security service of the whereabouts of three fugitives. The three were later killed by the IDF.  source

Haniyeh also said "around 40,000 of the 160,000-strong workforce should receive pay packets in the coming days while the remainder would be given loans to tide them over."  Where will the cash come from?  Possibly the United Nations?  Yes.

Caroline B. Glick isn't very happy with Abbas' proposed 'peace plan'.

Abbas's plan has two central components. First, he wants to get the PA's Hamas government to accept the document authored by convicted murderers and attempted murderers. Second, Abbas wants Israel to allow him to raise, arm and field a new militia with 10,000 soldiers to supplement the 20,000 soldiers Abbas already hired in the lead-up to the Palestinian elections in January. ...

But just the barest scrutiny shows that what the jailed terrorists announced was nothing more than a new restatement of their declaration of war against Israel and a recommitment to their goal of destroying the Jewish State. ...

Far from calling for an end to terrorism, the terrorists called for the establishment of a new joint terrorist organization called the "Popular Resistance Front" that is to be composed of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah terrorists. As they put it in their declaration, this new group's job will be "to lead and engage in resistance against the occupation and to unify and coordinate action and resistance and to form a unified political reference for the front."  source

Israel demands Hamas leaders quit party or leave

Israel issued an ultimatum to the four most senior Hamas politicians from East Jerusalem: leave the faction or leave the city. The Interior Minister, Ronnie Bar-On, announced in a television interview ... will have their residency rights revoked unless they renounce Hamas membership.  source

The minister, Khaled abu Arafa, and the three backbenchers, Mohammed Abu Tir, Ahmed Abu Atoun and Mahmoud Totach, all have the blue identity cards issued by Israel to Palestinians in the Arab eastern sector of the city. "You will either resign or you won't be with us," Mr Bar-On said.  East Jerusalem IDs allow the holders to travel within Israel and entitles them to some benefits, like health care, provided by the Israel state.source

Another day in Israel and Palestine just means more confusion, more terrorism, and no peace.

The unheard voices on immigration (UPDATED with video)

I have been listening to the voices of "legal" immigrants in this country when they just happen to be guests on a TV show, or when they happen to be a fellow blogger, or when they happen to leave a comment here at Right Truth.  But I don't think Congress is listening to them, I don't think the folks who want this amnesty program are listening to them either.

All too often the voices that get lost in the cacophony are those of legal immigrants and their descendants. Whether Hispanic, Asian, Caribbean, European, Middle Eastern or African, they make up the "nation of immigrants" often referred to by open borders proponents. Except that these immigrants valued U.S. citizenship enough to pursue it lawfully. ... 

It's not about the color of someone's skin, but rather national identity and a shared, unifying culture. At its core, it's about what it means to be an American.  ...  America is indeed a nation of immigrants. So perhaps we should start listening to what they have to say.

Oakland-based Diversity Alliance for a Sustainable America, a nonprofit organization that seeks to limit both illegal and legal immigration. What makes it unique is that the DASA is led by minorities, including immigrants, American Indians and African Americans. As they put it in their mission statement, "Current rates of immigration … hurt minorities and earlier immigrants the most."

Other organizations comprised of legal immigrants say much the same thing, although most focus solely on illegal immigration.

You Don't Speak for Me, a group of Hispanic Americans opposed to illegal immigration and guest-worker proposals, has become a presence on the national stage over the past two months. Formed in reaction to the pro-amnesty protests in April and the media's frequent omission of the qualifier "illegal" when covering the topic, the group sought to make the distinction between legal and illegal immigration. Their presence is a reminder that Hispanic Americans are not a monolithic bloc whose views and politics can be automatically assumed.

Another case in point is Latino Americans for Immigration Reform. They too are staunch opponents of illegal immigration, and members have volunteered with the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps in observing and reporting illegal border crossings. One such volunteer, LAIR president Lupe Moreno, is a candidate for the state Senate in the 34th District. Although LAIR's membership includes people of all races, the group's very existence pokes holes in the contention, popular among illegal immigration proponents, that the desire for immigration enforcement is rooted in racism.

Sermon against the criminal country America

Sheikh Abu Noor al-Maqdasi, a Palestinian imam, at Ibn Taymiyah Mosque in Palestine, gave a video-sermon titled: “The Cutting Sword in Defense of the Leaders of Jihad,”.  The basis of the sermon was mostly death to America and praising Osama bin Laden.  He "chastises those who criticize the Emir of al-Qaeda. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Mullah Omar and Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri are also amongst those the sheikh defends, calling them and their mujahideen a “new, devout pulse,” standing against the “criminal country” of America."  He states:

“We have America, with its armies, ships, airplanes, tanks, and with its riffraff and rabble, using force and casting terror… This believing group, this steadfast Mujahid group will teach them that the believing group will rather receive a strike of a sword with glory, than a strike of a whip - with humiliation”   source

The only reason I think this is noteworthy is because this video-sermon has been widely distributed to jihadi forums/websites.  Most of those websites are hosted right here in the United States of America.  Why?  Good question.  One such example is:  mabarrat.org.lb: Web site of Hizballah-linked 'Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association'.

Does Iran want to be attacked?

I have been wondering for some time now, if Iran's President Ahmadinejad actually WANTS to be attacked.  I believe that might just be the case.  Apparently I'm not alone in this thinking:

Does Iran want to be hit? There are three reasons why the answer could be yes.

First, an attack on Iran's soil would give Ahmadinejad's government more political power and would ease political pressure in the domestic front. Nationalism would arise and Ahmadinejad is in a good position to capitalize on it. This would strengthen his political power vis-a-vis other Iranian leaders---for example, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (the Supreme Leader) constitutionally holds the final word on many of Iran's political decisions---and would help him to further repress local dissidents. It is known that the current government in Iran is creating significant antibodies in the general population, so less political restriction to repress dissidents would help Ahmadinejad's regime significantly (e.g.: Ahmadinejad's political allies and comrades are replacing many less politicized and more technocratic civil servants). Creating an external conflict has historically been a handy policy for many governments and rulers with internal political problems and Ahmadinejad does not seem to escape this trend.

Second, Ahmadinejad's support as a Muslim leader in the Muslim World would be fostered with a massive and orchestrated American attack on Iran---even more with an Israeli attack. This is a very important point to consider. The political-institutional history of the Muslim world is characterized by political and military competition within Muslim leaders to become heads of  "the supreme sovereign office of the Muslim World" (Bernard Lewis), the caliphate. This structure dominated Muslim politics since the 7th century, only to be replaced by the modern concept of states during the first half of the 20th century. The political instability in most of the Muslim modern states suggests that the institution of the caliphate has not been definitively abandoned---Egypt's former president Gamal Abdel Nasser and Saddam Hussein are good example of these political dynamics.

Ahmadinejad has charisma, monetary and military resources, and a sound political network across the 'region (Hezbolla, Siria, Hamas, Jordan's Islamic Action Front, and Egypt�s Muslim Brotherhood), which makes him a good candidate for the post of caliph.

strong>Third, an attack on Iran would give Ahmadinejad more leeway to strike Israel, scoring political gains from a conventional strike (in a similar fashion to Saddam Hussein's attack on Israel during the First Gulf War). In any case, Iran's response-strike would not necessarily be viewed in the Muslim World as a battle within the Israeli-Palestinian war, but as a battle within the Arab-West war. This could further rally the Arab population support to Ahmadinejad�s side, creating a virtuous cycle from his point of view. source

The big question becomes, "whether a massive air strike over Iran could damage the regime to the point of making it incapable of capitalizing on the strike itself".  That is a question for our military.

U.S. agrees to negotiate with a brick wall (Iran)

Condi Rice announced today that the United States is willing to negotiate with Iran on their nuclear program. These negotiations would not be one-on-one with Iran, but would include France, Germany, and others. The only problem with this is that brick walls don't negotiate. Brick walls don't care what you offer them, they are not listening, they are firm in their foundations and unyeilding.

The 'offer' to negotiate was issued to Iran via the Swiss, and acknowledges Iran's right to have nuclear power, not nuclear weapons. Verification of Iran's 'peaceful' nuclear program and proof of cessation of the weapons program are requirements for the negotiations to go forward. I'm not holding my breath on this one.

"Thus to underscore our commitment to a diplomatic solution and to enhance the prospects for success, as soon as Iran fully and verifiably suspends its enrichment and reprocessing activities, the United States will come to the table with our EU-3 colleagues and meet with Iran's representatives," she said according to a text provided by the State Department.

Rice said Iran would incur "great costs" if it continued to pursue nuclear weapons. source

So the U.S. knuckles under and loses round one against Iran. Ahmadinejad must be smiling...

The key point of the statement (at least my impression of it) is that as soon as Iran can demonstrate that it is a responsible member of the international community it can be treated as one. As long as it continues to pursue Nuclear weapons, and as long as it is the Primary state sponsor of terrorism in the world today they will be treated as the pariah it is.

Ahmadinejad on Immigration

Iran's President Ahmadinejad put his two cents in on the subject of immigration, Iranians immigrating to other countries, that is. There certainly isn't a problem with people trying to immigrate TO Iran. heh He says, "Iranian's immigration always affected other nations' culture and method of life in positive ways."

Referring to Iranians that leave that country and take up residence in other countries, Ahmadinejad calls those folks "Foreign-Resident Iranians". A little strange, don't you think? Why do these foreign-resident Iranians want to go to another country?

They " immigrated due to furthering their education or gaining financial success and merely a few of them were among criminals or the Islamic Republic of Iran's enemies. ... applying the Iranians' potentials all around the world.

Ahmadinejad also recognized them as Iran's cultural and Islamic messengers in other countries who were the great protectors of their national values and emphasized on their nobility.

"Through accurate programming we should apply their capabilities as Iran's culture and civilization representatives in various countries and the International Society," said the Ahmadinejad.

Boy oh boy, that Ahmadinejad really knows how to 'spin' a story, doesn't he?

(Note: After posting this, I wondered if the reporter who wrote the article in the Iranian Student News Agency was talking about Iranians leaving Iran for other countries or people from other countries entering Iran as immigrants. Personally I can't imagine anyone immigrating TO Iran. But that's just me.)

Iran budgeting billions monthly toward terrorism in Iraq, including torture dungeons

Iran needs to get our of Iraq, stop funding terror groups there and stop running secret torture dungeons there like the one found this week in Basra.

Al-jazeera newspaper in Saudi Arabia reported that another torture chamber run the Iranian ministry of Intelligence has been discovered in Basra, Iraq.

According to this newspaper, in this prison, various forms of physical and psychological tortures are practiced on the prisoners.

Although the prison is affiliated with the Interior Ministry of Iraq, but the main operators are people tied to the Iranian regime's Ministry of Intelligence. The managers of this prison use Iraqi pseudonyms and speak Arabic, but it is completely clear from their accents that they are Iranians.

The report further goes into details about the people running the prison and exposes their affiliation with various Iranian intelligence and military organizations and entities.

“The prison is headed by a man named Col. Karim whose parents and wife are Iranians and the wife and his two children are currently in Iran. It is said that he is constantly in contact with the Iranian Intelligence Ministry. Also one of the interrogators who use torture on detainees lived in Iran for 20 years and is a member of the Iranian Intelligence and the Qods Force and he receives his salary from the Qods Force,” Al-Jazeera reports.

The report continues detailing other personnel of the prison affiliated to Tehran and exhibits another revealing evidence of the involvement of the Iranian regime in Iraq, and the extent of brutality used by it’s agents on the Iraqi people and their opponents. source

A local daily, Az-Zaman, reported on, May 25 that Iraqi political leaders based in London turned down Tehran's mediation request for talks with different Iraqi groups due to Iran’s ambiguous intentions.

The leaders said the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had introduced a secret article to Iran's budget bill, allocating some one billion dollars for assistance to Iraqi parties and groups. A former Revolutionary Guards officer by the name of Ja’afari has been assigned to oversee the distribution of the funds.

Iran has been accused of meddling in its neighboring country by many political groups and the coalition forces in Iraq.

Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zibari, in a statement on May 26 clearly directed towards his visiting Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki, urged Iraq’s neighbors to “understand the circumstances in Iraq and the security and political complications involved and not take advantage.”

Also in a clear reference to Tehran, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has accused institutions and charitable organizations in neighboring countries of funding armed groups in Iraq. “It is the neighbors' obligation to control the activities of these organizations if they want normal relations with Iraq,” Maliki said. source

And what are we doing about Iran? "The Bush administration is pressing Europe and Japan to impose wide-ranging sanctions designed to stifle the Iranian leadership financially if diplomatic efforts fail to resolve an impasse over the country's nuclear program, according to internal government memos and interviews with three U.S. officials involved." source

Kurds accepting Christianity by the hundreds

In "The World According to Chris Brewer", he says, "I met some high-ranking American politicians (senators, congressmen, top military brass), some neat Iraqi journalists (I talked to one guy about my faith and I was surprised I didn’t get beheaded in public),..." Which lead me to this post " Kurds Converting to Christianity in Northern Iraq" at The Dragon and the Phoenix:

This is interesting - reportedly, Kurds are converting to Christianity "by the hundreds."

Retired Iraqi Gen. Georges Sada, a former fighter pilot-turned-Christian evangelist, says Kurds are converting to Christianity "by the hundreds" in northern Iraq.

Gen. Sada earlier reported that he had been told that Iraqi pilots, flying private planes, took weapons of mass destruction to undisclosed locations in Syria in 2002.

The "good news" from Iraq's turbulent religious scene, consisting mainly of Sunni and Shi'ite Muslim militias battling each other, is from the Kurds, he said. Kurds are creating a constitution that does away with Shariah, or Islamic law, a move counter to trends in other Muslim countries such as Afghanistan and Iran, where leaving Islam is a capital offense and Christian converts are often killed. "No Christians in the Kurdish territory are persecuted," he said yesterday in an interview.

In a real shocker, a Muslim cleric speaks out against religious extremism and blind fanaticism. Villagers Without Torches

A leading Sunni Islamic cleric spoke out against religious extremism and encouraged Singapore's Muslims to work with other races and religions for the good of their nation, a local newspaper reported Friday.

Sheik Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi, the grand sheik of Egypt's Al-Azhar, one of the most powerful Islamic institutions in the Middle East, is on a three-day visit to Singapore. He has met with government officials and addressed a group of about 50 Malay-Muslim leaders on Thursday.

In those comments, Tantawi condemned religious radicalism and terrorism as "evil" and reiterated that Islam espouses tolerance and moderation, according to The Straits Times newspaper.

Such virtues "should lead us away from blind fanaticism and hatred because Islam considers all human beings to have come from one mother and father," he was quoted as saying.

Party leaders have no respect for voters on immigration

Get ready to be called racist, extreme, anti-immigrant, and any number of other slurs during the next few weeks while politicians try to hammer out some form of immigration reform.

There is a quiet rage building among average middle class folks on the illegal immigration issue, and if the Republican leadership doesn't take control of the problem very soon they will allow the more extremist wings of the anti-immigration debate to become the face of the Republican party on immigration. That would be a disaster for GOP hopes to grow their new found majority in the years to come. (From John McIntyre via Instapundit)

That "more extremist wing" means all of us who are against amnesty. And if making a stand means the GOP's hopes are dashed, then so be it. It's time for a third party to rise from the ashes of this immigration reform debaucle.

TinkerTonk says " Hypocrisy, thy name is McCain". I agree but not for the same reason. I think his stance on immigration has been terrible.

I crossed John McCain off my viable candidate for President list because of his insistence on campaign finance reform, which I regard as wrongheaded at best, un-American at worst. (And W.'s decision to sign it because the Supreme Court would overturn it anyway ranks right up there as one of the stupidest moves of his administration.)

Now, George Will points out that McCain will likely not participate in the public funding system for presidential primaries.

If nothing else, the past few weeks have conclusively proven that the majority of party leaders in both parties have no respect for the laws they pass for the rest of us to live under. (Warrants - Not good enough for us. Too good for you.)

It's not just the warrants issue, the party leaders have no respect for the voters, for the American people who put them in office. They don't seem to respect our wishes. This will be their undoing come election day.
