Dhimmitude from the press on 7 Miami terrorists
The press doesn't seem to understand that we are trying to PREVENT terror acts here in the USA. They seem disappointed that the 7 arrested yesterday in Miami had not actually COMMITTED any acts of terror. Well, that's the whole point folks. These guys WANTED to commit acts of terror. They were making PLANS to commit those acts. They were searching out the MEANS to obtain more money, more weapons, bomb instructions and components. They had contacts at the Sears Tower and other sites that knew the layout of the potential targets.
Yet the press is upset because there is no proof they would actually have CARRIED OUT any of these plans. What? They want the FBI, Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies to wait until something blows up before any arrests are made! The press is not the only one making these stupid comments. Some pundits on news shows are referring to these 7 terrorists as 'too stupid' to have carried out any acts of terror.
The 7 arrested terrorists in Miami are being made fun of because they openly tried to recruit others in their neighborhood to join their planned jihad. Narseal Batiste told an "al-Qaida representative" that he and his five soldiers wanted to attend al-Qaida training and planned a "full ground war" against the United States in order to "kill all the devils we can." His mission would "be just as good or greater than 9/11,"
The seven defendants were charged with conspiring to "maliciously damage and destroy by means of an explosive" the FBI building in North Miami Beach and the Sears Tower in Chicago. They were are also charged with conspiring "to levy war against the government of the United States, and to oppose by force the authority thereof."
In addition to Batiste and Augustin the defendants were identified as Patrick Abraham, or "Brother Pat"; Stanley Grant Phanor, or "Brother Sunni"; Naudimar Herrera or "Brother Naudy"; Lyglenson Lemorin, also known as "Brother Levi" or Brother Levi-El"; and Rotschild Augustine, or "Brother Rot."
Lemorin was arrested in Atlanta. source
Stanley Grant Phanor's father, Joseph Phanor, said his son was a 'good boy' and never got into trouble', yet public records show that Phanor has a felony arrest record from September of 2002 for carrying a concealed firearm and was under probation through September of 2004. (via Florida Department of Corrections)
I'm still waiting for CAIR's press conference, where they will most assuredly support the terrorists, make fun of the US government for the arrests, and claim it's 'biased against Muslims'. Well, hey, if the title fits, wear it. All 7 terrorists arrested thus far were Muslims. That's a fact. Update on CAIR's response later.
Hyscience puts it this way, "About Those Forbidden 'M' And I' Words ('Muslim' And 'Islam' or 'Islamic' )"
As usual, the press is more focused on why the FBI arrested this "gang that probably couldn't shoot straight if they tried" now, instead of earlier or later, and the evidence, instead of the fact that these idiot Muslims were planning to kill Americans. This, while the AG and the FBI bend over backwards to avoid using the forbidden M and I words, actually coming across as purposefully avoiding using Muslim and Islamic or Islam, and instead using terms like "they shared a common ideology." MORE
I think they are right, the press and even our law enforcement, go out of their way to use the proper terminology.
"They were persons who for whatever reason came to view their home country as the enemy." ..."The convergence of globalization and technology has created a new brand of terrorism. Today terrorist threats come from smaller more loosely defined cells not affiliated with al-Qaida but who are inspired by a violent jihadist message, and left unchecked these homegrown terrorists may prove to be as dangerous as groups like al-Qaida." ...
Gonzales outlined the contents of an indictment handed up Thursday, which identified Narseal Batiste as having recruited and trained others beginning in November 2005 "for a mission to wage war against the United States government," ...
To obtain money and support for their mission, the conspirators sought help from al-Qaida, pledged an oath to the terrorist organization and supported an al-Qaida plot to destroy
FBI buildings, the four-count indictment charged. source
Oh yes, the icing on the cake is the subtext run on Fox News (and perhaps other stations), something along the lines of ..."These arrests have nothing to do with Islam or Muslims". Right.
UPDATE: "... according to the source close to this investigation, at least one Arab Muslim and one mosque has been under surveillance for “supporting” this group and their associates. " source Also there is speculation that some of these terrorists may have connections with "Jamaat al Fuqra terrorist training camps" here in America, and linked with Pakistan.

skypirate you do not have all the facts, and you did not read my follow up article. These guys were not found in a Masonic temple, they were found in a warehouse. Actually it was more like a shed. Please read the follow up article for much more details. Were they Muslims? No, they were a mixture of Islamic/Jewish/Christian thugs.

Muslims? Jihad?
These guys were caught in a Masonic Lodge, were part of a group called "Seas of David," wore Stars of David on their shoulders, and were devoted to Bible studies. Their parents and relatives called them Christians, and in at least one case, Catholic.
How in the world could these guys be considered Muslims is beyond me. If anything, these guys belong to some kind of radical Christian cult.
That's the reason why Alito didn't call them Muslims in his press briefing... although he did use the word "Jihad." Of course, this is somehow associating an Islamic or Arabic term with a bunch of radical Christian Haitians.
It's pretty crazy to associate these guys with Islam... but it makes for better media coverage, doesn't it?

philologous, I knew what you meant. The press is really dangerous, especially when their main goal is to put Bush/Republicans in a bad light.

I'm sorry. That last sentence should have been: If they were not so damned dangerous, I suppose we might pity them.

Yes, Debbie, the press is upset that there is no proof these guys would actually have carried out their plans. But let's not be too hard on them. Because they are better at emoting that they are at thinking, they think that you can actually prove statements in the future active indicative, or that you can prove counterfactual conditionals. If they were, therefor, so damned dangerous, I suppose we might pity them.
