United Nations makes demands of Israel and remains useless

The United Nations is 'demanding' that Israel transfer tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority.  Demanding mind you.  "The United Nations Economic and Social Council overwhelmingly voted Thursday to demand ... "

American diplomat Terry Miller criticized the resolution for failing " to address the fundamental causes of those hardships [in the PA], including the actions of the Hamas-led leadership."

Israel's ambassador to international organizations in Geneva, Yitzchak Levanon told the Associated Press, "The sole purpose is just to discredit Israel. It is not equitable and balanced."  source

Let's review the situation.  Didn't the Palestinians get what they voted for?  They gave Hamas 74 seats in parliment out of the total 132 seats.  As a result of electing Hamas, a terrorist organization, America, Europe, Canada refused to continue sending money to their government, until Hamas renounced the violence against Israel and acknowledged the State of Israel's right to exist.  That hasn't happend yet.

In fact, the 35 articles in Hamas' charter are based on resistance against Israel.  It would be a little tough to scrap their entire charter I guess.  They rationalize this way:

... a thorough reading [of the charter] makes clear, that it is a reference to the Israeli Zionist regime and the Israeli occupation, not to the Jews as an ethnic-religious group.   Also in Hamas bulletins, the word ''Jews'' is not used. Rather, the words ''Zionistic enemy'' or the ''Zionist entity'' are usually used.  source

Ah, a rose by any other name, ...  Well you get the idea.  That explanation doesn't hold water.  Let's not forget the argument for Hamas, they are a "social-charitable" organization.  Isn't that what is being said about Hezbollah in Lebanon today?

Didn't Lebanon get what they voted for?  They did vote for Hezbollah, who hold offices in the parliment, just like Hamas.  And just like Hamas, Hezbollah is a terrorist organization who is lobbing rockets and missiles by the hundreds, correct that -- by the thousands -- at Israel from Lebanon.  Is this how a political party should deal with international disputes?

Hearing the world pass judgment on the Israel-Hezbollah war as it unfolds is to live in an Orwellian moral universe. With a few significant exceptions (the leadership of the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada and a very few others), the world — governments, the media, U.N. bureaucrats — has completely lost its moral bearings.

The word that obviates all thinking and magically inverts victim into aggressor is "disproportionate," as in the universally decried "disproportionate Israeli response." ...

Had Israel wanted to destroy Lebanese civilian infrastructure, it would have turned out the lights in Beirut in the first hour of the war, destroying the billion-dollar power grid and setting back Lebanon 20 years. It did not do that. Instead, it attacked dual-use infrastructure — bridges, roads, airport runways — and blockaded Lebanon's ports to prevent the reinforcement and resupply of Hezbollah. Ten-thousand Katyusha rockets are enough. Israel was not going to allow Hezbollah 10,000 more.  ...

it has repeatedly dropped leaflets, issued warnings, sent messages by radio and even phone text to Lebanese villagers to evacuate so that they would not be harmed.

Israel knows that these leaflets and warnings give the Hezbollah fighters time to escape and regroup. The advance notification as to where the next attack is coming has allowed Hezbollah to set up elaborate ambushes. The result? Unexpectedly high Israeli infantry casualties. source

And what is the United Nations doing?  Condemning Hezbollah for killing Israeli soldiers and kidnapping others?  Is the UN condemning Hezbollah or the Lebanese government for attacking Israel over the past two years with rockets and missiles?  Does the United Nations condemning Lebanon for not enforcing their own UN resolutions?  No.  They condemn Israel and accuse her of intentionally killing civilians and demand a cease fire.

Maybe we should demand the United Nations pack up their bags and go set up shop with some of these terror groups, since they seem to side with them most of the time.  Anyone ready to make some demands of the UN???

Go visit Xtreme Right Wing and read, "                         Lebanese President:  What a Wacko!" but here's a taste to wet your appetite:

Lebanon’s president, a strong supporter of Hezbollah, warned today that an intensified Israeli offensive to crush the guerillas could backfire and drive them to more violence. Wait, it gets better!

President Emile Lahoud vowed in an interview with the Associated Press and AP Television News that Lebanon will not submit to Israeli dictates, but said that a cease-fire was urgently needed. (which one is it? Did you take lessons from John Kerry???)

And just to set the record straight, Shlemazl has "A Comparative Analysis of Civilian Death"

Lebanon's Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, accused Israel of indiscriminately targeting civilians.

Let us check the numbers. (snip}

Altogether my sources indicated that 600 people died in Lebanon [1] within 17 days, 2 947 in Afghanistan within 60 days [2], 2 794 in Iraq within 80 days [3] and 24 100 in Chechnya within 120 days [4]. I did not count known combatants or civilian victims on the Israeli side.

It should also be noted that the conflicts in Iraq and, to an extend, in Afghanistan and Chechnya were against armies, which did not hide among civilians.

The UN is dangerous. It will play a MAJOR role in the demise of freedom.

Thanks Shlemazl. I knew that wasn't correct, but I wanted folks to read how they try and weasle out of things they do and say. Even if it were true, Arabs/Muslims use the words "Jews" and "Zionists" interchangeably.

I read a comment on a Muslim website just this morning, saying "yes the Jews have a right to exist AS LONG AS THEY LIVE UNDER MUSLIM LAW". They also said, "Not one handful of Arab land will fall into the hands of the Jews", which to means no 'two states living in peace side-by-side".

Anyone doubt their intentions after that? That goes for Christians and other faiths also, I'm sure.

"a thorough reading [of the charter] makes clear, that it is a reference to the Israeli Zionist regime and the Israeli occupation, not to the Jews as an ethnic-religious group."

This is a lie. Here are some quotes from the Hamas charter:

"Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious".

"The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews."
