Pat Buchanan is making the rounds trying to sell his new book, "State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America". To hear some of the interviews, folks are trying to make him sound like a raving lunatic. There is much truth to what he is saying. If nothing else, his book should make people think!
America in Peril, by Bill Steigerwald, is an interview with Pat Buchanan about his new book, "State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America," here:
Pat Buchanan makes his case that we must move quickly to erect a stronger, more restrictive immigration policy to stop and reverse the invasion of millions of illegal Mexican immigrants across our southwestern border. If we fail to do so, says the conservative populist, the United States as we know it will disappear in 50 years. I reached the former presidential candidate, political pundit and syndicated columnist by phone on Thursday, Aug. 24 in New York City, where he was in mid-book tour. [snip]Q: What do you say to those who call you semi-hysterical that these problems are not as dire or inevitably destructive to the United States as you fear?
A: They called me that in 1991 and now I sound like a moderate compared to what they're saying. If they don't follow these prescriptions, all I'm saying is, "Bye, bye to America." I think the American people agree with me and understand this. (go read it all here)
For a review of what our politicians are proposing, "The Border Within: Breaking down immigration plans in Congress" Which breaks down the proposed bills, 'these are the components of the House and Senate bills on immigration reform, as well as a compromise proposal being floated.'
One example is the 'incentive for illegals to leave the USA'.
House Bill: Incentive to return to home country: None.Senate Bill: Incentive to return to home country: Would help fund economic opportunity and health programs in Mexico. Guest workers would get travel authorization to visit relatives at home.
Compromise proposal (no bill yet): Incentive to return to home country: Workers here illegally would have an incentive to return home quickly because they would lose their jobs to another worker who had gotten in line for a new work visa, which could only be applied for at an "Ellis Island Center" abroad.
Go read all the comparison categories here, like 'Citizenship', 'Guest Worker Program', 'Criminals', 'Detention... A very worthwhile article if you are truly interested in reform.

Deb -- I'm not sure I agree with Pat's politics .. but I do think he's pretty much gets it re: illegal immigration ...
... on the other hand, he's the featured guest on CoastToCoast am tonight. right after their intro on crop circles.
I hope Pat sticks to illegal immigrants ... not alien invasion from Mars!

does anyone remember when Pat was running for President a few years ago? I remember that he had this "crazy" idea of basically putting a big old wall between Mexico and USA. Doesn't sound so bad does it....

Why Pat Buchanan is a nut? Easy:
1. Against free trade.
2. Against women's equality.
3. Against Israel.
4. Homophobe.
I could continue.
