Steve Centanni and Olaf Wigg, alive but captives
Holy Jihad Brigades is claiming responsibility for the kidnapping of Steve Centanni and Olaf Wigg, both Fox News Channel employees who have been missing for over a week. The terror group wants all Muslims to be released from U.S. jails and prisons in exchange for Wigg and Centanni. The world has been given 72 hours to respond, or ???
The fact that the statement says "American" jails, and also "United States" jails, is a bit confusing. I'm sure they do not mean jails within the U.S., but jails maintained by the U.S. around the world. It is good news that these men are alive and appear to be in good condition. However, we know what end result could await them in the hands of these terrorists. We pray for their safety and return to civilization and their families.
... two kidnapped Fox News journalists and demanded that Muslim prisoners in U.S. jails be released within 72 hours in exchange for the men.The video, which broadcast by Al-Jazeera and also seen by an Associated Press correspondent, was the first sign of American correspondent Steve Centanni, 60, of the San Francisco area, and cameraman Olaf Wiig, 36, of New Zealand, since they were kidnapped Aug. 14 near the Palestinian security services headquarters in Gaza City.
Although Palestinian militant groups have often seized foreigners, including members of the media, this is the longest any have been held.
In the video, the men sat on the floor in sweatsuits and appeared to be in good health. No armed men were seen.
The news agency, Ramattan, reported that the Palestinian group, the Holy Jihad Brigades, had demanded in a statement that Muslim prisoners in U.S. jails be released within three days in exchange for Centanni and Wiig. The group did not say what would happen if the deadline passed unanswered, Ramattan reported.
"We are going to exchange the Muslim female and male prisoners in American jails in return for the prisoners that we have. We are going to give you 72 hours beginning midnight tonight to take your decision," Ramattan quoted the statement as saying.
"If you implement and meet our condition, we will fulfill our promise. If not, wait, and we are going to wait," the statement said.
Earlier, Ramattan said the kidnappers had demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Ramattan said the journalists were heard saying in the video that they were in good hands and appealed to their governments to respond to the kidnappers' demands. source
