The Lebanese President Emile Lahoud condemns Isral AND the United States, while he praises Hezbollah and makes a deal with them to KEEP their weapons rather than disarm. The useless United Nations resolution 1701 doesn't require Hezbollah to disarm either, that is supposed to come in a future resolution presented by Kofi Annan. You remember Kofi reprimanding the members of the security council for taking so long to demand a cease-fire? Now it seems that the so-called international force that is supposed to fill the vacuum in Lebanon, won't be ready until February of 2007. So what happens in the meantime? Moral midgets are in control.
The one million dollar question is: will the UN forces agree to deploy there with Hezbollah weapons all around them? Or will they, in a pig flying moment, insist that no weapons should exist in SL besides the UN forces and the Lebanese army? (read more here) via The Big Pharaoh
And, from The American Thinker:
The French general in charge of UNIFIL says will take a year to build forces in Lebanon. He also blames Israel for the deliberate killing of UNIFIL personnel. Somebody explain to me why Israel should trust its security to this man.
Discussing the rebuilding in Lebanon, Hezbollah had lists of each building with names of residents, and they are giving financial help to the families as well as physically helping them to rebuild their homes and businesses. They are in fact the 'mob'. Nothing gets done in Lebanon without their knowledge and without their blessing. Israel has offered to give financial help to Lebanon, I don't know if that help has been accepted or not. The United States has, or certainly will, offer financial help.
Will that help be accepted? I don't see them turning down money from anybody, but the point is 95% of the American people think we should NOT give one red cent until Lebanese officials reject Hezbollah and disarm them. (via Fox News Poll) Money talks. Guns talk. Religion (Islam) talks. The UN talks (but no one listens).
Slapstick Politics is " Discussing the Ceasefire in Lebanon—Alice Roosevelt Style" at a 'Tea Party'. I wish I had been there:
To borrow again from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his "Letter from Birmingham Jail," she, “is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”.”
Both of these positions display a fundamental misunderstanding. My gentleman friend mistakenly believes that a technical victory on the field is enough to defeat the ideological motivation of Hezbollah. My lady friend refuses to believe that her feelings are insufficient to shape reality and that sometimes justice demands conflict. To cling to peace solely for the sake of peace even in the absence of justice is to accommodate evil. It is the position of a moral midget. (Go read it all, emphasis mine)
Texas Rainmaker sums up the UN properly:
This is to be done by the Lebanese army, assisted by UN troops. But Lebanon’s defence minister Elias al-Murr said the army would not disarm Hizbollah. France’s foreign minister, Philippe Douste-Blazy said his troops would not do it either.
Ahhh, the U.N. at its finest. Maybe after a few weeks of sitting around with their thumbs up their butts they can get mad enough to pass a new resolution (maybe with bigger words and some scary language)… which they won’t try to enforce for at least 2 years… and which they’ll try to enforce by sending in troops from countries that don’t want to enforce it. (more)
So we can add Lebanon to the list of countries that hate America. Like so many others since September 11, 200, The Conservative Voice asks, "Why Islam Hates America":
... it would be reasonable to examine why America has such calculating, devious and relentlessly bloodthirsty enemy. ... Why is it that large pockets of Muslims around the globe seem to violently despise America? It’s been said that this hated stems from the US’s support of Israel. ... Others would say that because of America the “Palestinians” haven’t a homeland. Both of these popular television assumptions would be partially true but neither completely correct.
America did take part in the United Nations creation of Israel in 1948. But America wasn’t the only country involved in this decision. The League of Nations had been surveying the land as early as 1919 as a place to repatriate Jews from around the world. There were many land surveys conducted on the British occupied territory. Great Britain, not U.S., was the major factor in this United Nations mandate. The term “Palestine” was a geographical term coined by the Romans and used by the British to specify the area of land, which was under British occupation, that later would be used to repatriate the Jewish people. By many historical and diplomatic accounts Palestine was never nation and the Palestinians were never a people. ...
Democracy, in its simplest form, is the ability for a body of people to have a say in their future which, to them, directs the success of the group. This delegation of authority to a sub group of people, as well as the authority placed in each person to vote, is what Muslims find profanatory. To vote and to hope on something other than Allah is blasphemy and is considered sinful. To blaspheme Allah is to be marked for death as was the case for author Salmon Rushdie for writing a novel. To blaspheme Islam is to be murdered as was Theo Van Gough for making a film about the abuse of Muslim women by Muslim men in Europe.
Capitalism, in its simplest form, is the ability for men to guide their own destiny with hard work and ambitious creativity. To Muslims this is blasphemous since it removes the authority of one's prosperity from Allah and places ones hope on his own ability.
The “religion of peace” placing a death proclamation on someone or some group doesn’t strike any news agency in the world as odd, hypocritical, or at least worthy further examination?.
America as a nation must understand that the war on terror is a war against fundamental Islam. To continue to naively proceed in war with the continued mindset that the enemy is simply “a group of radical extremists” is to ignore why people like Osama Bin Laden have not been found in allied Islamic nations. It fails to explain why traditionally impoverished Islamic peoples have scarcely responded to sizeable rewards for those terrorists America most desires to catch or kill. It also ignores the fact the “insurgents" in Iraq are coming from Iran and Syria and that the 9-11 terrorists were mostly from America’s long-time ally Saudi Arabia. If in fact America is battling a “group of extremists that have hijacked a peaceful religion”, than that group is absolutely huge, well armed, astoundingly well organized, incredibly mobile, and remarkably elusive.
Despite America’s best efforts, the Middle Eastern people possess a thousands of years of ingrained subservience to Islamic validated dictatorship. (Go read it all)
So the big bad America is friends with the big bad Israel. The fuzzy and lovable United Nations has stepped in to save the Lebanese people from the terrorist , resistance group Hezbollah ... Israelis and Americans. The Lebanese want to be saved from Israel and the U.S. Also Lebanon loves the sweet Syria and gentle Iran, because they share their hate for the evil American and evil Israelis, but love Hezbollah and Hamas. ... Ahhhh. Understand. Any questions????
The Independent Thinker has one question, "Did the Bush administration betray Israel—or did Israel's Prime Minister "disappoint" the Bush administration?". Their answer? Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert disappointed everyone. He has also proved himself to be a 'mental midget'.

I'm still sick over the cease fire. I can't believe the US would lead an effort to effectively neuter Israel. My respect for Condi dropped a notch and now Israel has become a paper tiger in the eyes of the Muslim world. This is not over, I'm afraid

WHY, OH WHY!!!! Did Israel back down like whooped puppies. What a waste. They should have finished what they started. Just like we should have in the first gulf war.
