Profile already! Profile against terror!
The British are considering racial and religious profiling. I think we need to start profiling, but profiling by itself only goes so far, with the terrorists using women, babies and westerners with blond hair and blue eyes. Profile yes, but scrutinize everyone. If anyone looks suspicous in any way, check them out. This idea that airport screeners should pull over every 10th person for special inspection, even if they are a 90 year old grandma, is just stupid.
I have personally been pulled from the line at airports for special inspection. Why? Because I was the 10th person in line. I'm a white woman, was dressed in summer skirt and top, and hardly had a bomb hidden in my clothing. But it didn't matter. It didn't matter who was in front of me or who was behind me, what they looked like, how THEY were dressed, whatever. I'm not complaining. I don't care if I'm pulled out of line every time, but only if I look guilty of something. Profile! But profiling because of religion? That won't work either.
Chad at In the Bullpen questions whether this is a good idea and exactly how it would work:
This, in my opinion, would be a huge disaster waiting to happen. If England decides Arabs and Pakistanis (called Asians in England) are more risky, they would miss out on possible African, white or actual Asian terrorists. How does one know what religion another is? Will there be a questionaire one must fill out ahead of time, and if so, would a terrorist indicate his or her religion knowing full well he or she might be pulled out of line because of this? Hyscience thinks "it's about time".
... if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, acts like a duck, and most of all - if it is a duck, it's damned likely to have an affinity for water. As for the terrorists, if they behave like a terrorist, walk (in this case - travel) like a terrorist, look like the overwhelming majority of terrorists look like, and belong to the same flock that 100% of the terrorists belong to, then the probability that they are terrorists and want to blow people up is magnitudes of probability greater than not, and that the son-of-a-bitches are bloody terrorists. If that offends their "privacy," well that's just tough. Life trumps privacy in today's world. (read it all)
We are all frustrated at 'government'. They don't listen to us. They don't vote they way we think they should. We see their successes and failures in the war against Islamic terrorists.
There is no question that we have failed to live up to the dreams of the founding fathers many times and in many places. Sometimes we do better than others. But all in all, the one thing we must be on guard against is thinking that because of this, the system has failed. The system has not failed. Some human beings have failed the system. —Ronald Reagan -- via Peace Through Strength
Ronald Reagan was a real cowboy (isn't that what folks call George W. Bush?). The Conservative Cowboy asks, " Anyone for Terrorist Profiling...?". My answer is yee haw yes!
Why is it that so many parts of our business world can get away with profiling, but the Government cannot do it to stop murder? (Article from The Patriot Post)To ensure we Americans never offend anyone -- particularly fanatics intent on killing us -- law enforcement and security screeners are not allowed to "profile" people in public places or security checkpoints. However, they will continue to perform random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year-old congressmen with metal hips and even Medal of Honor recipients. But targeting male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40 constitutes "ethnic profiling."Let's pause a moment and review....
In 1972, 11 Israeli athletes were killed at the Munich Olympics by: (a) Your grandmother (b) A Midwest auto-parts dealer (c) A mom and her 6-year-old son visiting from Indiana (d) Islamist males between the ages of 17 and 40.
In 1979, the U.S. embassy in Iran was taken over by: (a) A bluegrass band (b) Dallas Cowboy fans (c) A tour group of 80-year-old women (d) Islamist males between the ages of 17 and 40.
During the 1980's numerous Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by: (a) A family on their way to Disney World (b) Jesse Ventura (c) A Boy Scout Troop (d) Islamist males between the ages of 17 and 40.
In 1983, the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by: (a) A pizza delivery boy (b) The UPS guy (c) Geraldo Rivera making up for a slow news day (d) Islamist males between the ages of 17 and 40. (go read them all -- via PatriotPost.US -- http://PatriotPost.US/subscribe)
Of course mistakes can always be made. A peace activist was mistaken for a Jew and murdered, according to Cao's Blog, via Sweetness and Light.
Angelo Frammartino, a 24 year-old Italian student, planned to set up summer camp for Palestinians; He was attacked and murdered by Arab knifemanNir Magal
Of course that wasn't a trained profiler, just a blood-thirsty, Israeli-hating, Arab.
Shock and Blog has an image that shows the difference in American soldiers and terrorists

Everyone needs to laugh, so go to This That and Frog Hair 2 and read "Today's Giggles"

profiling, what a great idea. the only problem is telling who is muslim and who isn't.
well, we could pass a law requiring all muslims to wear a big neon yellow copy of the koran on a chain around their neck. then we could pass a law requiring them to live in walled off sections of major cities. that is at least until we get the labor camps built and fire up the ovens. has anyone seen my zyklon-b? anyone?
if you think racial profiling is a good idea, you are insane. a direct result of buying into the fear propaganda that spews from the present administration.

Thanks for the link. I appreciate it.
I think profiling is a wonderful tool of law enforcement on every level. I have my reasons for this thinking. Crime stats show that if its out of the ordinary appears odd or what not it needs checked out.
Based on prior experience. Profiles are composed of experience.
