Let's not forget that Hamas is still holding an Israeli soldier in addition to the soldiers that Hezbollah is holding. 'President Mahmoud Abbas is under pressure to demolish the Palestinian Authority because of anarchy in the West Bank and Gaza, a report says.' The Egyptian-Gaza border was closed on Thursday because of security alerts, ... extensive Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip began in late June after Corporal Gilad Shalit was abducted and two other soldiers killed in a cross-border attack from the same land that Israel evacuated last summer
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) announced Saturday it found and destroyed a tunnel it claims is used for arms smuggling between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Palestinian security official confirmed that the tunnel, more than 150 meters (yards) long and links Egypt to Gaza, had been destroyed by the Israeli army, using controlled explosions. source
The Zionist Organization of America says, "Kofi Annan & UN's Bigoted Conduct Towards Jewish State Of Israel Accelerates". You can go read it all, but here is a taste:
Kofi Annan has also never taken issue with the claims of Hizballah that Israel is an illegal entity, although, as Secretary-General of the UN, he is in a unique position to remind people that the UN itself mandated the creation of Israel in 1947. Nor has Annan described, much less condemned, Hizballah or Hamas as being terrorist organizations, although he regularly condemns Israel’s elimination of terrorist leaders [snip]Annan’s biased statements have been mirrored by other high UN officials:
# Mark Malloch Brown, Deputy-Secretary-General : Denied that Hizballah is a terrorist organization, saying, “It is not helpful to couch this war in the language of international terrorism ... [Hezbollah is] completely separate and different from Al Qaeda.” (Financial Times (London), August 1). (read more)
Israel has moved, in force, into southern Lebanon. Using helicopters to ferry troops into Lebanon, hear the Litani River. This will allow them to 'work backwards'. 'Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz said that operations in Lebanon were expanding, and that he expected to conduct offensive operations there for another week, despite the resolution. '
Power was cut off in Tyre and Sidon, probably to degrade Hezbollah's command, control and communications. Bottom line: Whatever the U.N. Security Council might have intended, the outcome in Israel was an IDF order to disarm Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. At present, there is only air action in the Bekaa Valley.
Danny Carlton, alias Jack Lewis is right on. 'Walk softly and carry a big, thermo-nuclear armed, stick' is the title:
Sometimes it's wise to rattle some sabers, but since Israel has already bombed Iran when it was making nuclear weapons, and Iran is currently threatening to do so again, this could very well be no bluff. The question is, are Iran's leader just crazy, or stupid as well?(more)
Comments by Rachel Neuwirth:
The Hizballah attack on Israel is NOT just another local conflict between Jews and Muslims, as some would have us believe. It is part of a far larger, long term, Islamic jihad against America and the West. Radical Islam is now attacking America and the West via the Hizballah assault on Israel. This attack is a deliberate escalation in their global jihad that must be recognized for the increased danger it poses. Any setback for Israel is viewed by radical Islam as a successful campaign against the democratic West. We need to recognize this new situation and revise our strategies quickly. It is also overdue to strengthen our relationship with Israel in our own interest. source, (Rachel Neuwirth, an internationally recognized, political commentator and analyst. Noisy Room.net has video and information on Hezbollah.
IDF officials said yesterday, before the ceasefire, that it would take them a week to get to the river. Less than 24 hours later, with time now of the essence, some units are already there. According to their top commander in the field, they could have been there 10 days ago.Instapundit points out another phony AP report from Lebanon, via Reihl World View:
AP Source Salam Daher Rescues Bodies That Aren't ThereAn AP article white washes a Lebanese Civil Defense worker bloggers suspect of disseminating Hezbollah propaganda. And they quote a colleague who apparently doesn't have any concerns about sharing information with Hezbollah to back him up. From the article: (go read it all)

"Mideast turmoil: More complex than the Ishmael-Isaac rift", from B.P. News
“Muslims insist that all Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael in order to give legitimacy to Muhammad as a descendant of the prophet,” said Shahid, a Palestinian educated in Lebanon who teaches at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. “Arabs actually belong to many different branches.”All Arabs could not have come from Ishmael, Shahid said, because after Sarah died, Abraham married an Arab woman, Keturah. End Terrorist-Sponsoring States, from Men's News Daily:
The dictatorships of Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria are still free to sponsor terrorism, while the appeasement-worshipping West is busy chastising Israel for retaliating against Hezbollah—a murderous, Iranian-backed terrorist organization. (more)
"At loggerheads: Political Islam & West", from Hindustan Times
The fourth scenario: it was suggested in the aftermath of the events of 9/11 that this is the final round of the battle between political Islam and the West, which will result in "the collapse of the Muslim World." This scenario suggests that political Islam will be entirely defeated in a matter of a few decades, because terrorism will have taken the lead in this round, at a time when the Muslim world was at its weakest. That might explain why some people have commented that the Muslim world is actually facing the most dangerous crisis in its long history. (read it all here)"Lebanon: The Pakistan Factor", from Peace, Earth and Justice News:
The current conflict in the middle east is, as all wars do, producing some unexpected results far from the frontline. In Pakistan, at least, Hizbollah's stiff resistance has made the guerrillas heroes, and has forced the majority Sunni to view Shi'a in a new light. For the last decade, militant wings of the two Muslim sects have indulged in tit-for-tat killings across the country, but the fighting in Lebanon has produced a temporary ceasefire. (more)
