The sentence for terrorists - death!
This weekend we honor those who were killed by Islamic terrorists on September 11, 2001. The debate seems to be 'are we safer?'. Well, apparently so since we have not been attacked since 9/11; since major changes have been made in our intelligence and homeland security; and since average Americans have decided to profile for themselves. The United Nations this week has decided they want to get tough on terrorism. It's a noble gesture but it won't accomplish anything.
The U.N. General Assembly president proposed on Thursday a draft global counter-terrorism plan urging nations to crack down on terrorist abuse of the Internet and be more cautious in granting asylum. ..."By taking decisive action this week we will be sending a clear signal to the world that we are shouldering our responsibility to act together to fight the scourge of terrorism," Eliasson told assembly members. ...
Every nation is also pressed to address problems like ethnic, national or religious discrimination, socioeconomic divisions and bad governance, "while recognizing that none of these conditions can excuse or justify acts of terrorism."source
Abu Hamza al-Muhajer said, "Our enemy has unified its ranks against us. Isn't it time to get together, worshipers of God?" and 'called on Sunni insurgent groups to kill at least one American in the next 15 days and to take their revenge on the Shiite community'. He told his followers around the world to use any means necessary to kill Americans. I'm for using any means necessary to take out the enemy.
In El Salvador cell phones, complete with a charger and data chips, were found in the body cavities of four inmates at a maximum-security prison. So will airport security now require body searches or full body x-rays from now on? Maybe Australia should think about this, since at least one person thinks they will be the next major target for terror attacks.
University of Chicago political scientist [Robert] Pape said conditions in Australia next year would mirror those in London and Madrid when bombers struck there in 2004 and 2005 and that Melbourne would be the likeliest target. ...Australian Prime Minister John Howard has disputed a warning by a leading US terrorism expert that the city of Melbourne was at heightened risk of an Al-Qaeda attack within the next year. source
Terror detainees have helped the CIA identify at least 86 individuals, but there are still terror suspects on the run.
That was just one of many disclosures contained in a raft of formerly classified documents released by the White House to accompany President Bush's announcement that he was transferring 14 high-value Al Qaeda detainees from CIA custody to the prison facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to face trial. source
I hope these trials will not be a sideshow or a forum for the terrorists to spew their beliefs. There can be only one verdict -- guilty. There can be only one sentence -- death!
We should never forget September 11, 2001
