Lee Adler -- One of 2,996 Americans killed by Islamic terrorists on September 11, 2001. Each of these victims of al-Qaeda will be remembered by a particular blogger on this 5th anniversary of 9/11. I am honored and humbled at the great responsibility each blogger is undertaking and at the same time so proud to have this opportunity.
Lee Adler was 48 years old and from Springfield, NJ, United States of America. He was a Computer designer for Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center.
We. Shall. Never. Forget 9/11 or Lee Adler
[he] loved being a host ... He wanted you to have the best of things. Adler, the oldest child in a close-knit family, was protective of his younger sister and brothers. He felt responsible for us, especially after the death of my dad a few years ago, said his sister, Randi. He really took on the patriarch role.
About Lee Adler:
At work, Lee Adler could write complex computer programs off the top of his head, never needing to write anything down. He took great pleasure in shaving nanoseconds off the time his elegant programs took to run, said his wife, Alice. Mr. Adler, 48, was a systems programmer at ESpeed, a division of Cantor Fitzgerald. He also coached his daughter's basketball, soccer and softball teams and was a trustee of Temple Beth Ahm in Springfield, N.J., Mrs. Adler said.At home in Springfield, Mr. Adler liked being surrounded by all girls. The family consisted of one daughter, Lauren, a sheltie, Meghan, and two cats, Lindsey and Brenda. Mr. Adler and the pets had birthdays in March, and they celebrated together. He would take the dog to the pet store, and whatever she sniffed first was hers.
Mrs. Adler recalls his most recent birthday fondly. He had given her a pair of earrings for Valentine's Day, and for his (yes, his) birthday, he gave her the pin to match, a bear climbing on a piece of lapis. "He definitely loved all his girls," she said.

A permalink has been created for the 2996 database (I am helping out as a list captain).
You may have noticed that the main site for 2996 has gone down, due to the extremely high volume of traffic this project generated. Mirror sites have been put up that show the list of names and links. If you can, please change your link to the list to one of the following sites:
• http://www.onebigdog.net/2996-tributes/
Thank you for taking the time to write this tribute.

Absolutely wonderful tribute. I understand your concern as to whether it would have been right to contact family. I ended up doing just that and am glad I did. I did it real quick and sent the letter out so that I couldn't change my mind as I knew that I would (which of course later that evening I did regret it as I knew I would). I lucked out though.
Thanks for letting us all know about Lee.

Thank you so much for this beautiful tribute and thank you for sharing this wonderful man’s life with us. Debbie, I chose not to contact the family as well. And I battled with myself just like you. I think God leads us to do the right thing in each decision we make. If it was His will for us to contact the family, I think we would have felt peace in doing so. Your post is beautiful and his family will be very proud.

Strange. It never even occurred to me to contact the family, although I do hope they read my tribute. Maybe because I myself am a widow, I have a strong sense of privacy and respect for the wall of pain.
What an amazing thing this project is.

Stopped by from Cop the Truth. Read your tribute. I also did not contact the family, although I thought about it a lot. I wonder if they would like to know how I have honored their father/husband/friend? I imagine at some point this project will get noticed by the media and possibly the families.
Great tribute. Glad there were enough of us to remember everybody.

I loved your tribute. I too chose not to try to contact any of the family. I didn't even try. I just prayed lots and lots for the families.

A wonderful tribute to a nice man that left this world too soon...
Never forget. Ever.

Everyone, I battled with myself for months -- do I call the wife? -- do I write her a letter? -- would this be the right thing to do or would it be rude of me to intrude on their lives? I just didn't know what to do.
Some bloggers did contact families. I chose not to do that. Maybe it was wrong, I don't know. It just felt like the right thing for me, not to bother them at this time

An amazing and moving tribute to an incredible man. Thank you for sharing his story!
I'm also a 2996 Blogger going through other's stories now and remembering all. It is just beyond sad.

Another life snuffed out. And Lee Adler sounds like a wonderful man.
Reading the tributes is soul wrenching, but important to do. All these people were individuals, with lives and families.
God rest the soul of Lee Adler and give comfort to his family and friends!
