America's Enemy
I'm listening to President Bush's speech today at the Military Officer's Association of America, and I read this on the internet, 'Palestinian militants who held two Fox News journalists hostage for nearly two weeks threatened in a statement posted online Saturday to abduct non-Muslims visiting the Palestinian territories and kill them unless their demands were met'. That statement from the Holy Jihad Brigades fits perfectly with the President's speech outlining the National Strategy for Combating Terrorism
What did President Bush say? He quoted the words of our enemy to show their true nature.
"Bin laden and his terrorist's allies have made their intentions as clear as Lenin and Hitler before them," ... "The question is `Will we listen? Will we pay attention to what these evil men say?'" ...... Bush cited what he called "a grisly al Qaida manual" found in 2000 by British police during an anti-terrorist raid in London, which included a chapter called "Guidelines for Beating and Killing Hostages." ...
"The terrorists who attacked us on September the 11th, 2001, are men without conscience, but they're not madmen," he said. "They kill in the name of a clear and focused ideology, a set of beliefs that are evil but not insane." source
From the direct transcript found here:
We remember the cold brutality of the enemy who inflicted this harm on our country, an enemy whose leader Osama bin Laden, declared the massacre of nearly 3,000 people that day, I quote, "An unparalleled and magnificent feat of valor unmatched by any in human kind before them." [snip]... They are driven by a radical and perverted vision of Islam that rejects tolerance, crushes all dissent, and justifies the murder of innocent men, women and children in the pursuit of political power.
They hope to establish a violent political utopia across the Middle East, which they call caliphate, where all would be ruled according to their hateful ideology. [snip]
About two months ago, the terrorist Zawahiri -- he's Al Qaida's second in command -- declared that Al Qaida intends to impose its rule in every land that was a home for Islam, from Spain to Iraq. He went on to say, "The whole world is an open field for us." [snip]
Again, here are the words of Osama bin Laden earlier this year: "Death is better than living on this Earth with the unbelievers among us."
These radicals have declared their uncompromising hostility to freedom. It is foolish to think that you can negotiate with them. (more)
The administration has had trouble naming the enemy and naming the war that we are involved in. I hope their eyes are finally open. Robert Klein Englar says, "If the truth is spoken, then we have to say that the West is fighting a war against Islam. This is an on again, off again war that is 1,500 years old. The truth is that Islam is a carrier of terrorism ..."
Islam is a religion of peace. This is a lie, for the Qur'an in Sura 2:216 tells Muslims that war is good. The Qur'an says in Sura 9:5 to slay those who will not believe in Islam and in Sura 5:33 to execute those who resist Islam. ... it is incompatible with Western Civilization. ...The desire of Iran's President Ahmadinejad to wipe Israel off the map is no different a motive than the one that saw the Jews massacred at Medina (Yathrib) in 627 A. D. ...
The threads of history and grace the Jews tease out runs through Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; not Abraham, Ishmael and Mohammed. This history is a cause of wonder, but also a cause of resentment. That's why many Muslim clerics and others hate the Jews so much. It is the same hatred the Nazis and Communists had in their hearts. It is because of the Jews, too, that the West is hated, especially the U. S., the one nation that guarantees the existence of the state of Israel. ...
... They know we do not have the political will to deport Muslims, let alone deport masses of illegal immigrants or profile Muslim young men at our airports. They know that secularism and political correctness prevent us from saying the words or effecting policies that will give us victory. ...
The failure of the Bush administration to say Islam is a carrier of terrorism and then to speak the truth about the war in Iraq is one of the two fatal errors that will shape the future of the U. S. The other fatal error made by this administration is related to the first one. That error is keeping our border with Mexico open in the belief that our two cultures and economies will harmoniously mix.
...In spite of these threats, the generation behind us, brain washed by secularism, couldn't care less about Islam or Mexico. So what if they get the podcast call to prayer from minarets where smokestacks used to be? They may simply bow down and move on. Regrettably, the prospect of an endless war on terror along with amnesty and voting rights for illegal immigrants may mean that the United States will overthrow its constitution by ballots instead of bullets. Unfortunately, it seems that 'The Republicans in Congress have decided not to push any Immigration Reform before the Nov. elections'. You can read it and Mr. Minotiry's comments here.
Ahmadinejad has made his intentions clear. This is what he and the mullahs want: "The Islamic world will soon become a major world superpower". and "Among all the governments in the world, the only legitimate government endorsed by the Almighty is the Islamic Republic of Iran ." That's the goal. (via Atlas Shrugs)
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is following through on one of his campaign promises from August of 2005, to make Iran 'a more Islamic-oriented country'. How? (source)
1. Purging 'liberal and secular teachers from the country's universities'.
2. He has 'been replacing pragmatic veterans in the government with former military commanders and inexperienced religious hardliners'.
3. Installing 'a new generation of rulers who will revive the fundamentalist goals pursued in the 1980s under the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, father of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran'.
Ahmadinejad complained that changes in the country's universities were difficult to accomplish and that the country's educational system had been affected by secularism for the last 150 years, but said "such a change has begun." source
Their goals seem pretty clear to me. I know our media tries to whitewash things, and today Douglas Farah at the Counterterrorism Blog has a post 'about what Salafists and Wahhabis really teach' here in the United States, referring to a Washington Post article.
The theology of Salfism, in fact, is not suspect at all-it is a clear, straightforward statement of belief that calls on the faithful to carry out jihad. The hijackers of 9-11, faithful to that call, did so. To pretend that Salafism itself preaches something different is a disservice. (full article here)
So Americans still battle with themselves to define the enemy. (sigh)

What a leader! In the face of his critics around the world, he has stood firm in his believe and his faith. He and his supporters attack liberals who he believes seeks to undermine his desire to fight terrorist abroad who he believes threaten his nation’s way of life.
A fundamentalist, he worships a former leader from the early 1980s, who also stood firm against foreign countries who wish to wage war against his great nation.
A man of strong religious faith and conviction, this leader scoffs at critics who don’t recognize the need to have religion play a larger part in government.
As leader of a great nation, he surrounds himself with former military commanders and leaders who once served previous administrations. He wages war against liberal journalists and bloggers. He also has little respect for liberal professors and instructors.
He declares that we are fighting against tyranny abroad and cultural revolution at home.
Who is this leader?
George Bush? Could be. But this story is about Iranian President Ahmadinejad. The two are so alike it’s scary. And they are both crazy.
Ahmadinejad and Bush: Separated at Birth?
by Jim Lobe
Despite the growing likelihood of confrontation between their two countries, U.S. President George W. Bush and Iranian President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad share a number of remarkable similarities.

Thanks, Debbie - although I was actually five days late noticing my own blogiversary. After that lapse, I'd better buy myself a dozen red roses!
