The burqa, chador, veil, khimar, hijab and similar coverings for Muslim women are dangerous to their health and the health of their babies. In “Muslim burkas damage babies health” at Symbel via Western Resistance you will find some interesting facts showing that many Musim women suffer from a deficiency of vitamin D which can lead to rickets. Specific studies in India, Denmark, and even Britain prove this theory.
Dagmar Curjel Wilson conducted a survey among several thousands of school age children in what was then northern India. He concluded that the causes of rickets were predominantly social, such as purdah, (wearing of the the veil and burka, and seclusion for females), as well as poor housing design preventing access to sunlight, and an inadequate diet.A study of Arab women in Denmark (Calcif Tissue Int 2000; 66: 419-424) by researchers Glerup, Mikkelsen, Poulsen and others found that a group of Arab women suffering from muscle pain and weakness were suffering from a deficiency of vitamin D, which improved after three months of vitamin D therapy…
The burka was not worn much by Muslim women in Britain, apart from a few examples of ultra-orthodox women. But since the late 1990s and the rise of the hijab, the all-enveloping burka has become more prevalent in Britain’s urban Muslim communities. Since 9/11 and particularly so after 7/7, more young Muslim women are apparently proud to cover themselves from head to toe, as a political display of their “Muslim piety”. And as a result, their children are paying the price for their mothers’ religious vanity…
Since the 2002 study, which caused alarm bells to ring, the number of rickets incidents has increased. Between 2003 and now, there have been 65 cases of children with rickets in Birmingham alone.
In the U.K. Cabinet Minister Jack Straw has said he would prefer Muslim women not to wear veils at all, but he isn't talking abut health reasons, he is talking about security and social reasons.
Asked on BBC Radio 4's Today programme if he would rather the veils be discarded completely, Mr Straw replied: "Yes. It needs to be made clear I am not talking about being prescriptive but with all the caveats, yes, I would rather."
Mr Straw explained the impact he thought veils could have in a society where watching facial expressions was important for contact between different people.
"Communities are bound together partly by informal chance relations between strangers - people being able to acknowledge each other in the street or being able pass the time of day," he said.
"That's made more difficult if people are wearing a veil. That's just a fact of life. (snip)The best thing is that, in the news there is a graphic to show you the different "styles of Muslim headscarf". And they consider a burqa "a conservative choice". They are speaking about European women. Mmmm.... UPDATE: They also link a pro-hijab website -guess one of its partners is? George Galloway, MP, who has said about this piece of news:
Who does Jack Straw think he is to tell his female constituents that he would prefer they disrobe before they meet him," says Respect MP George Galloway. "For that is what this amounts to. It is a male politician telling women to wear less. When put like that, there's no one who would be considered part of the civilised political spectrum who would have anything but contempt for Straw.
Of course, to tell someone to get rid of a veil on the face and hair is to tell them to "wear less" as if it were some kind of male chauvinist pig in search of sex. My goodness! How many idiots!( much more at The Anti-Jihad Pundit)
The Anti-Jihad Pundit is all over this topic, and Americans need to pay attention. While this is not a problem here YET, we certainly need to be aware on the consequences.

So after seen this image of a woman totally clad in Britain -no Pakistan, no Afghanistan, no some remote part of Sharan desert- The Guardian claims that the Minister's remarks "fuel claims of Islamophobia crisis":
Anger over a Muslim police officer who asked to be excused guard duties at the Israeli embassy combined with tensions in Windsor, where plans to build a mosque sparked three nights of violent clashes, giving British Muslims a frustrating sense of once again being the whipping boy."This Muslim police officer taken off-duty was a routine thing, but it was blown totally out of proportion," said Dr Reefat Drabu of the Muslim Council of Britain. "The same with the niqab. It is a matter of choice but it seems to have taken over the news. We seem to be all the time defending ourselves and we haven't got the opportunity to evolve within the culture we're in." [snip]
Shift since 7/7
A prominent academic agreed yesterday. Jean Seaton, professor of media history at the University of Westminster, said she would be reluctant to teach a student who covered their face. "You can't teach somebody if they can't communicate, without seeing the response. Teaching is not like stuffing a goose with corn - its utterly reactive. In a social situation, everybody else's faces are giving away stuff left right and centre." [snip]
(After 7/7) in August, Ruth Kelly, the communities secretary, called for a "new and honest debate" on the merits of multiculturalism. At last week's Labour conference the home secretary John Reid said Britain would not be bullied by Muslim fanatics, and he would not tolerate "no-go" neighbourhoods. The government has also appointed Trevor Phillips, head of the Commission for Racial Equality and a man who has warned that Britain is "sleepwalking towards segregation", as the chair of the new single equalities body.
If you like video, then go here for an eye-full. If you are a Muslim who likes the beach, you can even lift the fabric of your garment over your ankles and tip toe in the waters at Iran's resort island of Kish while your husband wears normal male swimming trunks and has a merry old time.

Indeed. I had forgotten about the rickets issue. Darker skinned people are less efficient at making Vitamin D (because they came from sunnier climes where Vit D from sun was easy picking)- and so are even more likely to suffer from rickets in very un-sunny Northern Europe where we all have to cover up for much of the year from cold. Covering faces, necks arms and legs all year round only makes it worse.
