Mexican illegal aliens say that a portion of the United States of America belongs to them, or more precisely to Mexico. They are correct in that a portion of American land once belonged to Mexico, but before that it all belonged to the American indians. "The American Indians used all of the land in the United States as their home about the time the Mexicans started sacrificing themselves on the altars of the pyramids."
They seem to forget that part of the land Mexicans are claiming belongs to them 'was sold to the United States by way of the Louisiana Purchase on April 30, 1802.'
In 1821, Moses Austin, an American, obtained a Colonization Grant from the Mexican government. The Mexicans had failed at homesteading the Texas land. They abandoned it, and the Americans began homesteading in accordance with the Colonization Grant. They made good progress. The Mexican government changed its mind a few years later and told the Americans to leave. The Americans declared their independence in 1836. After trying to evict the Americans, guess what? War broke out. The battle of the Alamo happened shortly thereafter. This was the only battle won by the Mexican army. Later, in 1845, the U.S. annexed that land which is known as Texas and New Mexico. This precipitated the Mexican War, which I guess is still going on. At least this was exhibited recently by illegal Mexican aliens parading a Mexican flag through a California town. Gee, and then we have Americans who are not accepting of the Mexican culture.Americans won all subsequent battles and then Mexico sold the territories north of the Rio Grande for $15 million, half of what the U.S. offered in 1832. However, this is history, and we must focus on how to make the world better today.
This information may be history, but it is obviously history that the illegal aliens never studied and never learned. Hint: It's never too late to educate your self folks, you are living in an imaginary world. You need to accept reality.. The United States is just that, UNITED and NOT MEXICO and never will be Mexico.
I'm tired of having to select a language right here in the United States. I'm sick of places like Wal-Mart putting Spanish labels on their meats and other products. This is America and Americans speak English.
'We have room for but one language here' -- EnglishEnglish is not a magical language, but it is the national language by nature. Actually, it has been the national language since the pilgrims arrived in 1620. It has been used for 400 years but, somehow, all of a sudden, illegal Latinos and some legal Latinos can't do what at least 50 other ethnic races have done: Learn and use English.
In 1919, Theodore Roosevelt wrote, "In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American. ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. ... And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." source

With all due respect the statement
"English is not a magical language, but it is the national language by nature. Actually, it has been the national language since the pilgrims arrived in 1620." Is utterly false and is in the realm of make believe.
Christopher Columbus SPOKE SPANISH
First, the area (North America) was settled by primarily by Spain, France and then English. The reason so many folks on this continent speak Spanish surely isn't because it was an Aztec thing. Spain had a far greater influence.
As far as being "national language" there was no nation until the 1770's 150 years after your imagined date, and then it only included the east coast.
Spanish is every bit as legitimate as English in America and arguably even more legitimate.

I like to walk behind people speaking foreign languages and utter things like, "Chaboolaboonga!" and "Oogatababaroo!" and "Kowamuchacho ubango!"
........but that's just me....

Outstanding post Debbie! What really gets me too, is that when any of whomever, speak in a language other than English in public. I have got to tell you, that it really gets under my skin. I have had a not so polite comments said about me while shopping. I knew enough to pick out the worst one. Some are just different, and treat women very disrespectfully. It was an awful experience.
And I do not purchase any products that have dual languages on the labels. WTH is that about anyways? It makes the US look like Amexica or something.

Awesome! There isn't a better word for this post.
Having lived in Germany and Greece when I was younger, and visited almost every european country, I can tell you that most everyone there speaks english. Most will not, however, talk to you unless you at least attempt to speak their native language.
