It's beginning to look a lot like withdrawal...

The Democrats made campaign promises that some people are actually taking seriously. The far Left are wondering if the elected Democrats will follow through on promises made, but the Left is not the only group asking this question. The terrorists are asking, the Arab press is asking, and what will the Democrats answer be? Can they fulfill the campaign promises to the terrorists? We will soon see. Will the Democrats (and Republicans) use the Baker Commission report as their excuse to tuck tail and run?

Jihad Watch has "Fitzgerald: Ten things the Baker Commission report will not do"

1) It won't demonstrate that its members have studied, and thoroughly assimilated, the central role of Jihad in the belief-system of Islam.

2) It won't demonstrate that its members understand that the instruments of Jihad are many, and that the most effective and at this point, therefore, most dangerous, are targeted and well-financed campaigns of Da'wa in the West, and demographic conquest, speeding up, in many of the countries of Western Europe.

3) It won't demonstrate an understanding that it is pointless to believe, or what's worse, to ask Israel to believe, that any treaties arrived at between Israel and Muslim states will ever be kept by the Muslim side. ...

4) It won't demonstrate any awareness that Syria is not a state run by Muslims, but rather of, by, and for Alawites. The Alawites are a military caste who make up a mere 12% of the Syrian population. Their syncretism – including the cult of Mary – causes Sunni Muslims to regard them not as full-fledged Muslims but rather as people who are dangerously Infidel. ...

5) It won't demonstrate any understanding of the way in which the seemingly innocuous notion of "agreeing to talk" with Iran actually improves the domestic standing of Iran at home and abroad. ...

6) It won't demonstrate an understanding that not Iraq, and not even the Middle East, but rather Western Europe, is now the main battleground of the Jihad. ...

7) It won't demonstrate an understanding that it would be folly to continue to refuse to exploit the natural fissures -- sectarian and ethnic -- that Iraq presents. Those fissures existed virtually since the first century of Islam. They were not caused and could not conceivably have been caused, by the Americans. ... (read more)

The Arab Press is asking, "Can the Democrats Transform the Iraqi Situation?"

Today, the Democrats present themselves as the hope and the saviors from the consequences of Bush’s foreign adventures, and from the extreme rightist ideology in an election campaign that pledged many promises. An important one being, or rather the most critical is the US withdrawal from Iraq ...

And yet here we are with the Democrats sweeping into the two Houses of Congress, to form the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Does this mean that the US foreign policy will be reversed, or are these merely election promises that have nothing to do with actual practice – especially regarding Iraq, Iran, and the Middle East as a whole?

Mrs. Pelosi's Swamp

Don Surber is keeping a close eye on Mrs. Pelosi's swamp, the house democrat caucus. Rather than draining the swamp, as promised. Pelosi is feeding the allegators. Mrs. Pelosi has endorsed one of her most corrupt congressmen, John Murtha, for majority leader. What next, Allan Mollohan for whip? -- Bits Blog

Somewhere in Okinawa...

House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) endorsed Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) yesterday as the next House majority leader, thereby stepping into a contentious intraparty fight between Murtha and her current deputy, Maryland's Steny H. Hoyer.

Okinawa here we come, redeploying, withdrawing, running, cutting, exiting, walking away, call it what you will. ...

Are these the San Francisco values I’ve heard so much about, is the piper collecting his first pound of flesh? --A Western Heart

» A Hint From the Iraq Study Group from Wake up America
Once again, other than quite a bit of lip service, we are in the same spot we were in before the elections. Iraq must be stabilized, and we are not leaving until it is. [Read More]
