It's not just Americans that are tired of wishy-washy words coming out of Washington. Tehran says Washington needs to clear up mixed signals over willingness to meet. Sometimes the United States is her own worst enemy. "We are hearing different voices from the United States," and "The statements from their side are not very clear," according to Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani. Join the club of confusion, Mr. Larijani.
Americans want Washington to be strong, to present a clear direction to Americans and to the world, on things like Iran's nuclear program, Iraq, Israel. That might be hard now that the Democrats are in office. On the recent elections, Iran is 'pleased with the new direction of U.S. foreign policy'. Khamenei calls U.S. elections a victory for Iran.
The liberals want the U.S. out of Iraq, but some think Iran wants the United States to STAY in Iraq. Democrats are going to use 'tough love', saying "If the US plans a phased pullout of troops within four to six months, the Iraqi government will face up to what has to be done."
Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, despite his good looking exterior, has an inside that burns with the fire of Jihad. It is no secret that he wants Israel to be a memory and it seems that he has been preparing for the final battle with Israel for a long time. Let’s take a stroll down Ahmadinejad’s past, shall we? But first, a little lesson in Islam... (go read it all)
Kissinger's opinion piece concludes that the United States must retain leverage over Iran. Presumably this leverage should take the form of some military presence - preferably in Iraq but failing that elsewhere - that could threaten Iran. Without that leverage, Iran will not make the other changes Kissinger wants Iran to be induced to make. (read more)The media dwells on any attempt by Israel to defend herself, but why don't we hear more about the Palestinian rockets? "For months, Kassam rockets have been falling on Sderot and elsewhere in the western Negev, even as far inside Israel as Ashkelon. Allowing such a large section of the country to remain under fire week after week is unacceptable".
This week, Ehud Olmert presents plan to Bush: trade West Bank for 15 years of peace. Breathtaking short-sightedness. What happens at the end of the 10- to 15-year hudna? The Muslims will fight again to destroy all of Israel.
We can't agree on how to fight the Islamic terrorists, but everybody's got an idea (except the Democrats/liberals).
To defeat the global jihadist movement, the United States should move beyond the boundaries of conventional counter-terrorism and seek to undermine support for Islamic terrorism within Muslim nations, according to a new RAND Corp. study. The report says this type of campaign enabled the United States to help nurture opposition to Communism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, culminating in the overthrow of ruling regimes and the collapse of the Soviet system.
The study by RAND, a nonprofit research organization, says a successful campaign against Islamic terrorism requires: attacking the ideological underpinnings of global jihadism; severing ideological and other links between terrorist groups; and strengthening the capabilities of front-line states to counter local jihadist threats.
Well, this war is not like the battle against communism. It is similar to the war against the Nazis, or worse. The Nazis didn't have an armageddon philosophy like the Islamists do. We need to remember these words by Dr. Tawfik Hamid:
"Why can't you realize that it has nothing to do with what you have done but with what they want."But I can tell you what it is not about. Not about Israel, not about Iraq, not about Afghanistan. They are mere excuses. Algerian Muslim fundamentalists murdered 150,000 other Algerian Muslims, sometimes slitting the throats of children in front of their parents. Are you seriously telling me that this was because of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians or American foreign policy?"
You can't play touchy-feely with an enemy that simply wants you gone from the planet.

I think you could be right, eric. Women can make changes if they unite with one voice. Somehow I don't see Islamic women doing that.

hi ineresting ideas. Ive been doing someinteresting reading and came across a good book called the troule with islam, written by a girl from nyrobi who imegrated to canada. opens ones mind t the fact that we all must question our religion.i feel that econmic grouth for women and families will end extreamisim hold on people as extreamism teaches people that jews and amercians are the reason they have such a hard life.Irish people had same probles of hate for british but in the late eighties economic gains have improved the common irishmans life .extreamism can be stiffled.
