As I enjoyed the peace and quiet of my home with beautiful weather here in Tennessee on Thanksgiving Day, I watched the freedom-loving people in Lebanon, again, take to the streets in protest of Iran and Syria. Tens of thousands of Lebanese people paid tribute to assassinated Christian politician Pierre Gemayel in Beirut. They were not giving thanks, they were mourning the death of yet another good leader. While they mourned they also showed strong defiance towards Syria, Hezbollah and Iran. Lebanon canceled Independence Day celebrations so people could attend or watch on television the live broadcast of dignitaries paying last respects to Pierre Gemayel.
The Lebanese people carried posters of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Syrian President Bashar Asad, not to honor those men, but to throw down the images and walk on them, spit on them, showing Lebanese hatred for the foreign intrusions into their country. It didn't take long for the hordes of angry Shi'ite Muslims to also hit the streets at what they said were insults against Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, saying "Nasrallah don't worry, your Shi'ites can drink blood."
Keep in mind that the Democrats/liberals want the United States to 'talk' to Syria and Iran in an effort to help Iraq's struggling democracy. What a stupid idea. Look at the democracy in Lebanon and the efforts that both Iran and Syria through Hezbollah are taking to topple the Western-backed government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.
Police estimated some 800,000 people participated in the rally and funeral.
"The second independence uprising was launched today for change and it will not stop," Gemayel's father, former President Amin Gemayel, told the crowd in downtown Beirut, speaking from behind a panel of bulletproof glass. "I pledge to you that we will soon take steps so that your efforts will not go in vain."
The throng applauded as the coffin, wrapped in the flag of Gemayel's Phalange Party — white with a green cedar emblem — was carried past the square to nearby St. George's Cathedral, where the packed congregation sang hymns. The 34-year-old Gemayel's wife wept in the church, leaning on his mother's shoulder. source
Efforts toward a full investigation of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's death will now include investigation into Pierre Gemayel's death. It is believed that Syria is behind both deaths. The investigation appears stalled. The United States denounced the death as an act of terrorism.
Anti-Syrian Druze leader Walid Jumblatt said, "We have to expect, and this is my impression unfortunately, more assassinations of ministers and parliamentarians." Unfortunately, Mr. Jumblatt is probably correct.
