Consider this a Debbie's Believe It Or Not post.
A German, Wolfgang Bohringer has been linked to Mohamed Atta, the lead hijacker in the attacks on New York and Washington in 2001 and he plans to build a flight school. No, this is not a joke. He planned to 'build a resort and flying school on Fanning Island — an atoll without telecommunications or a functioning airstrip, but among the closest to Hawaii, 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) to the north'.
The German arrived by yacht in Kiribati a year ago with plans to build a flying school, but has since left the far-flung archipelago, Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio reported. The island where the school was planned was among the country's closest to the U.S. island state of Hawaii, the report said.
Kiribati's President Anote Tong said the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation had warned him that it was suspicious of Bohringer, the ABC said.
Tong said the FBI also warned him that small countries like Kiribati, whose 94,000 people live on 33 atolls scattered 4,000 kilometers (1,400 miles) along the equator, could be vulnerable to terrorists... source
President Tong says this 'demonstrates how vulnerable small countries can be ... we don't have the resources to be able to monitor everything and everybody that goes through our system ... we do look to neighboring countries like New Zealand, Australia'. I like President Tong, who also said, "You've got to be quite wary of very, very good proposals."
A man arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport carrying nearly $80,000 in cash and a laptop computer containing information about nuclear materials and cyanide will be held in custody at least until Monday, a U.S. magistrate judge ruled Wednesday. Sisayehiticha Dinssa, 35, is a U.S. citizen who gave a Texas address, arrived in Detroit from Nigeria by way of Amsterdam and was headed for Phoenix. Remember they are holding him at LEAST until Monday, then what? Let him go? Federal agents want to get a warrant to search his computer, let's hope that happens. This guy doesn't need to be let go.
The Feds are still investigating potential terrorists in Lodi, 18 months after the arrests of Hamid Hayat, 24 (convicted in April of one count of providing material support to terrorists and three counts of lying about it to FBI agents) and his father Umer Hayat, 48, (convicted of lying to investigators about the amount of cash he carried to Pakistan on a 2003 trip, but a jury deadlocked on terrorism charges).
In case you haven't heard, there will be a Global Orgasm for Peace on Dec. 22, 2006. The anti-war wingnuts came (excuse the pun) up with this idea, bless their little pea brains. From TigerHawk, The organization's web site says that mass simultaneous orgasms can alter the Earth's "energy field."
Another Russian spy caught? Canada said on Thursday it had arrested a foreign man who it branded a threat to national security and who one national newspaper identified as a possible Russian spy. The man, who had been living under a false name, was detained at Montreal airport on Tuesday after two federal cabinet ministers signed a national security certificate deeming him to be a danger.
Six investigated in Germany for alleged plot to blow up plane:
The six, as well as other people who have not yet been identified, are believed to have begun preparations for an attack on behalf of "so far unknown" terrorist backers, federal prosecutors said in a statement.Several of the accused approached a person with security clearance at an unidentified airport last summer, the statement said. That person said he or she was prepared to smuggle a case or bag containing explosives onto a plane in an exchange for an unspecified payment, it added. source
So what's the hitch on these six terrorists? Five of them were released Saturday and the sixth will probably be released. What happened? Botched investigation perhaps? You wouldn't know it from officials who are patting themselves on the back saying, "This case is encouraging in that our security authorities are clearly very observant, get very close to possible (terrorist) structures and, at least so far, have succeeded in intervening early enough,", Interior Ministry spokesman Stefan Kaller.
Iran thinks Israel is weak and for this reason will not attack Iran's nuclear facilities. And they know this how? I don't think Israeli Minister Lieberman would agree. He wants to wipe out all of Israel's enemies.
Then there's this lunacy, "Once again, Rangel wants to reinstate the draft."
On a completely unrelated note, bRight&Early has a birthday coming up (not a blogiversary). He wants traffic, links, or tips to celebrate. Do what you can to honor this young man old geezer so go visit him NOW! and check out his Overnight Posts
