December 7 and September 11, remember
The December 7, 1941 Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor was one of the great defining moments in history, just like September 11, 2001. At Pearl Harbor, a single carefully-planned and well-executed attack removed the United States Navy's battleship force as a possible threat to the Japanese Empire's southward expansion, and killed 2,043 Americans. In New York City and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, another carefully planned attack caught Americans off guard and killed 2,996 innocent people.
Japanese losses were comparatively light, with twenty-nine planes, less than 10 percent of the attacking force, failing to return to their carriers. Al-Qaeda's losses on 9/11 were extremely small. On 9/11 it took only 19 men with a suicidial devotion to Islam and al-Qaeda leaders like Osama Bin Laden to bring America to her knees. But like December 7, Americans dropped to their knees in prayer, in determination, in a joint effort to defeat the enemy that had attacked our precious country.
In 1941 Americans did not back down. They did whatever it took to get the job done, to DEFEAT the enemy. The Japanese attack shocked and enraged the previously divided American people and brought them together. Americans were once again united to defeat another enemy after 9/11, but that unity did not last. We are crippled with divisions, political struggles for personal gain, and stupidity. The Astute Blogger sums up the situation perfectly, "Our counter-attack against global jihad: weak and off-the-mark."
PJM links to a thoughtful article at VARIFRANK, who suggests that:“People often point to our nations inability to tolerate losses on the battlefield as one of the decisive factors in warfare in the modern age that is defeating the western world; but few take the time to think that we are also being defeated because we have chosen a strategy of not inflicting losses on the enemy.”I'd only add that we have also not inflicted enough loss on the RIGHT TARGETS: Hizballah, Hamas; Syria; and IRAN. Especially Iran. Iran has not paid a penny for their support for their proxies or their illegal nuclear efforts. It's passed time they did. In spades.
Albert Einstein: The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. (via Lost In Lima Ohio) A growing number of Americans on the left want to sit back and do nothing. Oh they say they want to negotiate with the enemy, sit down at the same table and have a little of the old give-and-take.
The only problem is their is no give-and-take with this new enemy. They don't want to negotiate except and unless it serves their purposes. The enemy needs time to re-arm, to move troops, to finish planning an attack ... they will 'agree' to negotiate. But be sure they will give nothing in those negotiations. It will be America who will come out wanting.
Remember 1941 and Pearl Harbor. We must defeat our new enemy as those brave Americans did so many years ago!

Thanks Gentle Cricket. It really is sad.
James, TypePad is sucking more than usual. I really would switch to something else if I wasn't so chicken. I wish some kind soul would volunteer to switch me over. I'd even pay them.

This was supposed to be for "Here's the situation" but your comment link isn't working. As far as I am concerned, enough talk. We need action. Tough, Strong, concerted action. Talk put us where we are. Action changes everything.

Very true, every word of your post. The similarities between the two attacks is very similar, but the responses couldn't be more different.
