Iran's parliament wants the next presidential elections to be held more than one year early
Could it be that the Iranians are sick and tired of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? It seems Iran's parliament wants the next presidential elections to be held more than one year early.
Parliament approved a draft bill upon which the parliamentary and presidential elections would be held simultaneously in the first quarter of 2008.As the next parliamentary elections are scheduled for February 2008 but the next presidential elections for June 2009, the new bill would reduce the four-year presidential term of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by almost one and a half years.
The members of parliament in favour of the bill, more than 80 per cent, say that the simultaneous formation of the executive and legislative powers would enable a better cooperation between the two powers and strengthen parliament's supervision role.
Ahmadinejad has not yet reacted to the draft bill.

Idiots Some want the US to negotiate with Iran and Syria on Iraq and Iran's nuclear program. It seems Turkey has a voice also. Turkey’s premier today held talks on the security situation in Iraq with a top Iranian official and met with Iran’s president to discuss “the most important issues in the region", security in Iraq. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had meetings and then Iran’s Vice President Parviz Davoodi met with Erdogan separately.
Turkey is a member of Western military alliance NATO and considered by some an ally of the US.
Saudi Arabia has suggested that if the United States pulled out of Iraq they would step up to help calm the violence. They have made some efforts to fight terrorism at home, like foiling a planned terrorist suicide attack and arresting 139 suspected Islamist militants who were in "sleeper cells" believed to be affiliated with al Qaeda. I'm sure if they were really serious about terrorism, they could arrest a lot more than 139. They could also close down the wahhabi schools, terrorist training camps, and do other things to stop the recruiting, training, and housing of terrorists.
The 'holy grail' (the independent Iraqi study group's report) comes out December 6, with authors Baker and Hamilton hitting the talkshow circuit to promote their suggestions. The Beltway Boys think they should present their report and fade into the sunset, but that won't happen.
