ISG equals surrender
Syria lists terms for talks with U.S., Damascus seeks bigger role for Iraq's Sunnis and a timetable for withdrawal of troops. Yes, you read correctly, Syria is ready for dialogue with the United States. It didn't take long for the ISG surrender to reach the Middle East.
The Iraq Study Group Report was supposed to be a non-event. Leaks about what the group would suggest to President George W. Bush have been 'out there' in the media for weeks. Unfortunately, after people have actually read the report and see what a pathetic excuse for policy it is, the media and blogosphere are ablaze with praise on one side and utter shock on the other.
Caroline B. Glick said, "When the history of our times is written, this week will be remembered as the week that Washington decided to let the Islamic Republic of Iran go nuclear."
Like his unsupported assertion that the US cannot win in Iraq, Baker also asserts - in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary - that Iran and Syria share America's "interest in avoiding chaos in Iraq."
What a hoot to suggest that Iran and Syria's interests would be the same as those of the United States. Just the opposite is true. Here's what the report actually says:
Despite the well-known differences between many of these countries, they all share an interest in avoiding the horrific consequences that would flow from a chaotic Iraq, particularly a humanitarian catastrophe and regional destabilization. source
As Powerline notes, "The rest of the ISG's discussion of "incentives" deals with Syria and relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict." That's right, incentives, deals, groveling, sucking-up, ... looking WEAK, talking WEAK, acting WEAK. Pitiful. Sad. The wrong message for America to be sending to the world at a time when we need to be extra STRONG!
Ms. Glick continues:
In a few months, Iran may well be in possession of nuclear weapons which it will use to destroy the Jewish state. With the US withdrawing from the war and Israel in the hands of incompetents, the time has come for the Jewish people to rise up. (read it all)
PA Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has already vowed that the Hamas government would never recognize Israel and would continue to fight for the liberation of Jerusalem. "The world's arrogance (US) and Zionists ... want us to recognize the usurpation of the Palestinian lands and stop jihad and resistance and accept the agreements reached with the Zionist enemies in the past." via Air Force Pundit
Yid With Lid sggests, "Baker's ISG report is all about lining Baker's Pockets."
The secret deal involves a complex transaction to transfer ownership of as much as $57 billion in unpaid Iraqi debts. The debts, now owed to the government of Kuwait, would be assigned to a foundation created and controlled by a consortium in which the key players are the Carlyle Group, the Albright Group (headed by another former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright) and several other well-connected firms. Under the deal, the government of Kuwait would also give the consortium $2 billion up front to invest in a private equity fund devised by the consortium, with half of it going to Carlyle. (read more at Freedom's Cost)
Ralph Peters at Dissecting Leftism sugggests that the ISG is ignoring history:
The superannuated membership of the Iraq Study Group shepherded by former secretary of state James Baker conjures a line from the film The Sixth Sense: "I see dead people." ...
Baker is the dean emeritus of a reactionary school of diplomats--inaccurately labeled "realists"--whose support of the shah of Iran, the Saudi royal family, Anwar Sadat, then Hosni Mubarak, and, not least, Saddam Hussein delivered short-term stability that proved illusory in the long run. It was the "realist" elevation of stability above all other strategic factors--echoing Prince Metternich--that gave us not only the radical regime in Iran, but, ultimately, al Qaeda and 9/11. So what was supposed to be a non-event, a tiny blimp on the news for a day, has turned into a whirlwind of disbelief, confusion and utter disgust on the part of Americans and anybody with half a brain.
My questions are, (1) Does anyone in government really have to follow any of the suggestions in the ISG? No, I don't think so. (2) Should we follow their suggestions? No, we should not. What happened to President Bush? Has the body-snatchers gotten hold of him? Have aliens invaded his body? He's not the same man I heard in New York City after 9/11. I want THAT man back.

I'm so sorry guys about the trackbacks. It's probably TypePad's problem. I will send them a help ticket (sigh)
Thanks for keeping right truth going today. I've been in contractor HELL all day. I'm trying to be a peaceful, level tempered Christian lady ... but these guys are tempting me to scream!

Great information Debbie! I may be linking to it, on a quickie post. I have a migraine and do not feel like doing much.
I also have sent two track backs to you that aren't going through. From two of your prior posts.
"ALIENS! And the pigs are off to the races" and "NBC Affiliate solicits donations for illegals". I'm trying to get everything straightened out.
@Layla there is a thread on track back problems in the WordPress forums.

Hi, Debbie! The ISG and it's contributers not only ignore history, mohammadism, logic, common sense, decency, but Truth! They are living in a fantasy of the mind that has nothing to do with reality. They are utopians who see what they want and ignore the inconvenient details! They want a certain outcome and G*D help whoever gets in their way to producing Heaven on Earth! Of course all utopias have degenerated into rigid, cruel, one track mind, tyrannical regimes! Just ask the 100,00,000+ who have died on that broad road to Hell!
Fools, and worse than fools. Liars, thieves and tyrants! Control freaks.
