You are probably aware of Navy Chaplain James Klingenschmitt who was fired for praying 'in Jesus name". He lost his job, pension, home, was publicly ridiculed and court-martialed.
There is a real double standard when you compare Klingenschmitt to a Wahhabi-trained Muslim chaplain who catered to al-Qaida detainees at Guantanamo and fought to establish the first Mosque in Marine Corps history. via Random and Political, entire article here:
According to WND, "Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England personally promoted Navy chaplain Abuhena Mohammed Saifulislam from lieutenant to lieutenant commander.Saifulislam also received a Joint Service Commendation Medal at the Pentagon ceremony held on the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Pentagon officials say the ceremony was unprecedented. 'It's
unusual for a deputy secretary to personally promote an officer of that rank,' said one official who wished to go unnamed. 'No one has known of such a high-level dignitary doing that.'"Furthermore, the WND report stated, "England also earlier this year personally dedicated a new Islamic center at Marine headquarters in Quantico, Va., on the advice of Saifulislam . . ."
Now get this: "The Muslim chaplain, who is stationed at Quantico, recited verses from the Quran in Arabic and English at the summer dedication ceremony, which included representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, several leaders of which have been convicted on terrorism-related charges."
Go read the Rest of this At Chuck Baldwins Site!
Pathetic!

Debbie:
There is really no point debating WND. "Facts" are often facts in the eyes of the beholder. I will tell you that one website for which I write in the open (not as SW) on topics relating to homeland security, never cites WND and a number of others blogs where rhetoric displaces facts, and partisanship replaces objectivity.
As for the supposed "favoritism" being shown to Muslims, I believe that political correctness has gone haywire. We've allowed CAIR way too much latitude, Ibrahim Hooper has been given way too much respect. Did you hear about the TSA's cultural sensitivity efforts?

You see? That's pure BS! But when it comes to the poor choices made by Klingenschmitt (who apparently violated a regulation as it was written at the time) or by the Under Secretary of Defense performing at the promotion of Saifulislam, I see a difference.
There is a BIG difference between policies of deferrence like that of the TSA, and what happened in the Chaplain Affair(s), at least in my opinion.
And BTW, in an informal polling of people I know, many of whom are in security positions or government, the consensus is that people of the Muslim faith have the right to swear oaths on the Koran versus either the King James Bible or the Old Testament or the Torah (as Joe Lieberman did). Apparently, too, did Linda Lingle, Governor of Hawaii, who took the oath of office on a Torah in 2001 and Madeleine Kunin, a Jewish Immigrant and Governor of Vermont rested her left hand on a stack of old prayer books that had belonged to her mother, grandparents, and great grandfather” as “a physical expression of the weight of Jewish history.”
For further clarity on the Muslim use of a Koran to pledge an oath, perhaps a re-reading of Eugene Volokh's article on NRO would be useful.

"America the Beautiful...G-d shed his grace on thee." I suspect it is a mistake to confuse the human exemplification of G-d (Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha etc.) for the belief in G-d.

Martin, the graphic was done by Night Rider. He did one for AOW also. Very nice of him.
Stormwarning, WND's facts are usually correct, as far as I know. There may be some apples and oranges in this, but you must admit there is a big difference in how we allow Islam/Muslins to do things in the US and how Christianity is beginning to be treated.
Angel, yes I got your comment and I appreciate it.
I'm sorry for not much posting today. I had the plumber from HELL here all day. Check out the new post and let me know what you think.

WND in and of itself is not and substantiated source for news or facts.
As for Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt, it appears from the "surface" facts, that comparing his case with that of Muslim Chaplian Saifulislam is comparing apples and oranges. It does seem strange, but if as reported he was outside of his Chapel, and that act violated Navy regs., then _________ (you fill in the blank).
Now remember that there was an issue of prostelitizing at the Air Force Academy a while back when non-Christian students (actually Jewish students) objected to the theocratizing of the Academy.

Now, I think that the charges were eventually dropped, but it doesn't mean that the problem doesn't exist.
Whether or not the promotion ceremony of the Muslim Chaplain and the attendance of an Under Secretary of Defense represents an overabundance of political correctness is a totally different thing. In fact, I don't understand or agree with the deference given to Saifulislam.
Political correctness has indeed run rampant in this country. But apples and oranges are two different fruits.
