His name is Abdelhaleem Ashqar, a graduate student at the University of Mississippi in the early 1990s. He went on to be assistant professor of business at Washington's Howard University. Now, Ashqar, 48, is accused of being a high-ranking member of the Hamas terrorist network along with a former Chicago grocer names Muhammad Salah, age 53. (AP)
"He's Hamas, and he's assisting the murderous terrorist activities of Hamas," Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Ferguson told jurors, pointing at Abdelhaleem Ashqar, ... [snip]The two are charged in a racketeering indictment with funneling thousands of dollars and fresh recruits to the anti-Israeli organization.
Ashqar, of Springfield, Va., does not support terrorism and has done nothing illegal, according to his defense attorney, William Moffitt. Ashqar was merely trying to get charitable contributions to impoverished Palestinians on the West Bank under Israeli army occupation, Moffitt says. [snip]
Ferguson pointed to testimony that Ashqar directed money to families of Hamas "martyrs" killed in terrorist operations and those captured and jailed by Israeli authorities.
"We're talking about someone who is a graduate student at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Miss., and you see hundreds of thousands of dollars coursing through his accounts," Ferguson said.
Federal agents found that Ashqar spoke on his telephone 568 times in several years with Mousa Abu Marzook, an alleged top Hamas leader who also is charged in the case and is a fugitive believed to be living in Syria. (source)
You can read more about the trial including 'secret bank accounts, so-called dead drops of the kind spies use to pass documents without being seen, murder plots and a clandestine network of terrorists with bases in the heart of America' at the Daily Journal.
Americans Against Hate has the following (read the entire article here):
Somehow, I doubt Mr. Hanania's account of the trial, especially after reading this:
He was charged in this case in October 2003, and Salah was added as a defendant a year later. The racketeering indictment alleges Ashqar served as a U.S.-based "information clearinghouse" for Hamas, meticulously tracking the group's terrorist operations overseas and alleged money-raising efforts here. He's portrayed by the government as a behind-the-scenes Hamas guru: In a warrantless search of Ashqar's home in 1993, agents found debriefing reports of local operatives returning from missions in the Middle East.
FrontPageMagazine has more on CAIR's (Council on American-Islamic Relations) connections to Hamas and other terror groups.
You can read about 'Democrats who took radical Islamic & terrorist campaign $$$ (McKinney, Kennedy, Bonior & more)' here. The article is not up-to-date, but it is still very informative.
Read about CAIR's man in Congress, Rep. Keith Ellison, here.
CAIR is nothing but a front for terrorist organizations and an organization here in America whose main goal is to turn the United States into an Islamic nation. Not my words, theirs.
Always on Watch:
Consider these words from Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR's Director of Communications:
"I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future...But I'm not going to do anything violent to promote that. I'm going to do it through education."Also consider these words from a July 1998 statement by CAIR founder and Chairman Emeritus Omar M. Ahmad:
"Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth."Do those statements from Mr. Hooper and Mr. Ahmad reflect a longing for the establishment of a worldwide caliphate, with the United States as part of that caliphate? If so, could it be that such a longing is the reason that hordes of moderate Muslims have not come forth to take back their hijacked religion?
Read Ahmed's interview with WND here, his own words speak volumes. Jihad Watch discussed the importance, or lack thereof, should Ahmed deny his statements. Very interesting reading.
We have people here in the United States who support terrorist organizations with their time, money, positions, American freedoms. They are supported by terrorist groups like CAIR, also inside the United States, also abusing American freedoms. I think it is high time our government, including Homeland Security, FBI, CIA, and any other alphabet organization that is supposed to keep us safe, to watch these groups and kick them out, shut them down, whatever it takes to end their activities.

BTW, I posted your trackbacks - not to worry. My movable type lets so much spam in it's hard for legit pings to get through. And I have made whitelists, blacklists, etc. Spam should have been tackled long ago by the ISPs when it was only a trickle and more easily subdued, but now there are over a billion and a quarter Muslims, sorry I mean spams, every few hours that it's impossible to control. Shows you what happens when you don't take a problem seriously until you are attacked.

I was never under the impression that any Muslim wouldn't die (literally) to have America become Islamic, however I recall my father telling me of a place far away at a time many years ago where someone wanted to promote racial harmony through re-education. Nazos, Nasas, Nezis, some name like that, I can't put my finger on it.

Thanks Christi. It's amazing how CAIR defends these terrorist supporters. And I wonder how many more there are in the US that we don't know about, tons I'm sure.
