Israel, the Palestinians and the United States have agreed to sit down together in the near future. Condoleezza Rice appeared to make good on her promise to deepen American involvement in the Middle East peace process this morning by brokering a three-way summit between the US, Israel and the Palestinians. Forgive me if I don't see the point in this summit, when the violence continues and the rockets are still being launched.
Also disturbing is talk about the Palestinians using both money and arms that have been provided by the United States. Boker tov, Boulder!
In a speech commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the founding of his Fatah party, the PA chief called on Arab factions to put an end to weeks of infighting and instead fight Israel.
"Shooting at your brother is forbidden. Raising rifles against the occupation is our legitimate right, but raising guns against each other is forbidden. We should put our internal fighting aside and raise our rifles only against the Israeli occupation," said Abbas in a speech in the Muqata compound in Ramallah attended by World Net Daily.
Abbas' call to arms was not reported by most major media outlets featuring articles on the PA leader's speech. [snip]
WND reported that the recent U.S. shipments of rifles and ammunition were provided to bolster Fatah against rival Hamas factions, the Fatah militants said. [snip]
Abu Yousuf, a Fatah militant from Abbas' Force 17 security forces, told WND while some of the weapons may be used in confrontations against Hamas, the bulk of the American arms would be utilized to "hit the Zionists." [snip]
According to documents revealed Friday, the Bush administration will provide $86.4 million to strengthen security forces loyal to Abbas, including Force 17, which also serves as de facto police units in the Gaza Strip and Judea and Samaria.
So not only are the Palestinian Arabs trying to get around the obligations of stopping terror - so are the current Israeli leaders! Olmert et.al. are ready to give the Palestinian Arabs a state, right now, with seeming no preconditions and temporary borders.
And Abbas, true to form, is rejecting this absurd gift, proving once again that peace and statehood is not the goal of the "moderate" Fatah. Building a state, with an effective police force and judiciary, with the responsibility for job creation and tax collection and all the myriad parts of a real, functioning government is the furthest thing from Abbas' mind. An entity that now has almost nothing continues to bargain as if it holds the upper hand. -- Elder of Ziyon
Don't miss Pamela's article, "Abbas Quotes Koran in Call to Kill Jews", the press didn't tell us about the Koran.
