Israel prepares to attack Iran, why is this a surprise?
No one seems interested in the suggestion yesterday that an alliance would be formed between Saudi Arabia, the United States and Israel to hit Iran. President George W. Bush is gearing up to take care of Iran. Reports started flying yesterday that Israel is planning on striking Iranâs nuclear program using low-grade nuclear weapons or what are commonly called bunker busters.
Why is any of this news? Israel has said all along that if necessary they will strike Iran's nuclear sites. Today they are saying they want to work with the international community while at the same time they say the U.S. cannot take on another war while they are involved in Iraq. I don't agree with Israel. The United States is perfectly capable of handling more than one front. In fact, we already have naval sources in the region as well as other contingencies.
The idea of Saudi Arabia joining in with the United States and Israel is crazy. They might help behind the scenes, but nothing will be done openly. In fact, in talks between Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal and French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy, 'Prince Saud denied an Arab satellite channel report that quoted a British newspaper as saying that an alliance would be formed between Saudi Arabia, the United States and Israel to hit Iran, saying âThis is ridiculous,â said the prince. âSaudi Arabia will never take part in attacking another Islamic country and cooperating with Israel.â
Perhaps Israel leaked this information as a warning to Iran? Or maybe to stir the international community to action? Maybe Israel didn't leak this information and the media rushed to publish the leak without thinking of any ramifications. Captain Ed says:
More likely this is a training exercise to determine the feasibility of such an attack. Perhaps the difficulties could be overcome, but they seem near insurmountable. Any attack by air will show up on the radars of several nations very unfriendly to Israel well before the bombers cross over into Iranian airspace. Those nations would consider the overflight a hostile act in itself, and would likely respond militarily even before Israeli pilots could lock onto their targets. The low-percentage nature of the plan's final stage would convince most that the entire mission would best remain a curious academic exercise and not a serious strategy for handling Iranian nuclear ambitions.Free Constitution has more.
The Amboy Times has Iran's respose to Israel's potential attack.

I brought up the possibility of the US, Israel and the Saudis all attacking Iran, some time back. It is a possibility, though I don't expect it to ever happen. About the Isreali's nuking Iran, I also posted on that today, http://islamanazi.com/2007/01/07/israeli-plans-to-nuke-iran-revealed-right-under-flash-pigs-fly/
and I think the story is false and "leaked" by the Iranians. They are the only ones who would benefit from the story.
