Why listen to the State of the Union Speech? Heroes, that's why. The highlight of President George W. Bush's speech tonight was the introduction of heroes at the end of the speech. A soldier who threw his own body on a hand grenade to save his fellow soldiers; a woman entrepreneur who built a business from nothing and now gives back in a fabulous way; an average citizen who jumped onto the subway rails and covered a young man's body with his own, while the train sped over them. Heroes.
As for the speech itself, most of that was covered in my previous article. Not much new. Not much that will actually get passed in congress. Nothing to seal our borders. I did notice that the cameras only focused on Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama a couple times. Strange since they seem to be the Democratic presidential darlings.
I think Bush may have been shooting for the moon with his many requests for bi-partisan cooperation in congress on his proposals. My friend Tommy at The Kag Report has this wise comment:
Someone somewhere once said something along the lines of..."shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll wind up among the stars"
It sounds nice and all, but it reflects an incredibly poor understanding of the universe. If you miss, you’re much more likely to end up lost in space. --The Kag Report
I heard several Democrats begin comments about the president's speech with "I don't think ..." Tommy says:
The next time someone says, " I don’t think… ",I’m going to take them at their word. --The Kag Report

Salim, thanks for visiting. Come back again.
Rastaman, the 'onion' is a good analogy. We watched, but nothing new, just like I expected. Everything was already out there in the web prior to the speech. The energy program will be dead on arrival, according to the Democrats.

The State of the Onion... is when you peel back all the layers, there's nothing there.
Bush talking about bipartisanship is like a spider talking about being kind to flies. No chance. It's just gas. Bloviating. He made it plenty clear that he's going to do what he wants in Iraq regardless of what the majority of our elected representatives (of us) want. His speech was all just more of the same.
