The following is from Degrees of Madness. I can't improve on what she says:
The Department of Education says that it will open a public school next fall dedicated to Arabic language and culture.
The Khalil Gibran International Academy is one of 40 new schools that will their debut in the city next September.
Education officials say that although half the classes at the school will be taught in Arabic, they want to enroll a diverse student body.
A public school dedicated to Arabic language and culture in Brooklyn. The state of public education in America has never been worse and the Department of Education thinks this is a proper use of taxpayer money?
I can't find any other information on this, the NYC Department of Education website has a press release, but the Khalil Gibran International Academy is not mentioned.
If Arab-Americans want an Arabic school, I'm sure they can come up with enough money to fund it. There must be a prince somewhere in Saudi Arabia with a little extra oil money laying around.
