Border Security: Zetas Violence and Mexican Drug War Spreading to Matamoros, by StormWarning:
Lest anyone believe that the new Mexican government of Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa is actually stemming the tide of drug violence plaguing our Texas-Mexican border, think again! Its time to take U.S. border security seriously, and realize that the drug wars between the Sinaloa and Gulf Cartels are a threat to our national security. Matamoros Mexico lies directly across the border from Brownsville Texas...similarly, Nuevo Laredo Mexico and Laredo Texas are simply "border cousins."Drug gangs still control parts of Mexico, despite federal crackdown Mexico’s powerful drug gangs still control parts of Mexico, despite a nearly nationwide federal crackdown aimed at retaking control of the country, one of Mexico’s top security officials said Thursday......Since taking office Dec. 1, President Felipe Calderon has launched an aggressive federal campaign aimed at undermining the growing drug trade. Debbie: Thanks for the link. But my post was about the drug wars and the potential impact on National Security, not illegal immigration (not really the focus of this one).

StormWarning, you are correct of course, but anything that deals with 'drug wars and the potential impact on National Security' IS about illegal immigration. Not directly, but indirectly. The Coalition has been keeping a very close watch on Calderon, specifically Red Hot Cuppa Politics blog.

I believe that Calderone will be found to be just anothe rbag of wind south of the border.
Even though there is a connection, I make a very clear distinction between National Security issues related to the drug wars and illegal immigration. Most of my "friends" tend to agree, even though we now see the drug lords helping to create the flow on illegals across the border.
6 of 1, half dozen of another. They both impact our Nation's security, and they both represent failing of both governments to do something about the problem(s).
