Iraqi Generals suspects in Karbala attack on Americans

Two Senior Iraqi Generals are under suspicion along with other Iraqis, in the attack in Karbala at a provincial government security compound. The Generals are intelligence officers, which might explain how the terrorists got through security and knew exactly where and how to conduct their attack. If guilty, this creates all kinds of questions about the Iraqi military and perhaps police.

Several Iraqis have been detained for questioning in the ongoing investigation of at least two senior Iraqi generals suspected of involvement in an insurgent attack that killed five American soldiers on Jan. 20, ...

At least one of the Iraqi generals under suspicion for involvement or having advance word of the attack is said to be an intelligence officer, according to U.S. officials. If that's proven to be the case, the involvement of Iraqi generals in an attack on American forces raises questions about the loyalty and trustworthiness of Iraqi military officers at the highest levels.

Those concerns would be compounded if it's determined that Iran had a hand in the attack. (source)

Karbala, I believe, can be looked at in the context of the new National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq published this week, and discussed in my post.

Controversial.

If this is true Debbie this is just horrible. Unbelievable! But it would most definately explain a lot. It still angers me to no end how the American military and our government has helped Iraq and still we are to blame for so much that went wrong there.

Have a great weekend and try to relaxxxxxx...lol..:)

Look...the best solution would be a good, attention-getting slap on the desk in the form of a tactical nuke or two in an undisclosed location or two.

Those folks need to understand we ain't jest a whistlin' Dixie ovah heah!

So does the rest of the pathetic world!

Hi Debbie,

Out of everyone who is commented here I have to stick with Mike. He makes the most sense of this, I am sure that his new General over there is keeping the Pres well informed of what is happening.

More grist for my argument mill that we should get out, let them trash each other, and move on to Iraq and Afghanistan where we're actually needed. There is simply no possible way we or any other Western nation will ever be able to work peaceably with those lying, sneaking, conniving people. They might as well be from another planet and be copper-based life forms like squid. We will never be on the same level of thinking. Never.

BTW, there's a lot of noise in the MSM lately about war with Iran. Keep your fingers crossed.

They should be detained and imprisoned. Those people need to understand that we're not going to tolerate any more of this crap

If, as stated (and believed), Iraqi generals were involved in this atrocity, it presents quite a dilemma, no?

Here we are being told that the exit from Iraq by American troops will come when the Iraqi army and the Iraqi security forces are able to take control of those functions, and yet, those are the ones committing terror on American troops.

So here lies the question: Is it a realistic goal (to see Iraqi army and security forces help to stabilize the country)? Or are we witnessing still another proof that the sectarian violence and divisions, Iraqi society if you will, makes an Iraqi-ization difficult, if not impossible?

Or do we attribute this to Iranian "meddling?" From a practical point of view, other than being able to point a finger to a map and say "they came from here," there is little difference between foreign fighters of any origin...IMO, of course.

I think the White House knows the truth of what happened here and just isn't willing to let the details out yet. It's a scary situation, though.
