Ahmadinejad Wants To Address U.N. Security Council
No official request has been sent to the United Nations yet, but Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to address the U.N. Security Council, according to Reuters. The Foreign Ministry is seeking a U.S. visa for Ahmadinejad so he can visit the U.N. in New York City, according to Iranian government spokesman Gholamhossein Elham.
We all remember the last time Ahmadinejad spoke at the United Nations, do we really want to invite him into the United States a second time? I think not. Iran's U.N. envoy, Mohammad Javad Zarif, told South African Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo, the council president for March, that the Iranian government was "determined to make this trip".
"The guidelines I have read said that if a member state has an issue before the Security Council and requests to appear before the Security Council, this must be considered," said Kumalo, adding that he would surprised if the council didn't allow a visit by Ahmadinejad. The five permanent Security Council are due to brief the other members of the council on Wednesday and show them the draft resolution they are working on.
Perhaps Ahamadinejad thinks he can sweet talk the security council the way North Korea did. Yeah, how's that deal with North Korea working out? Remember that John Bolton said it wasn't worth the paper it was written on.
According to Threats Watch, North Korea warned the US (to lift its financial sanctions, looking to free $24 million in the regime leadership’s assets in a Macau bank) should the US fail to lift the sanctions, North Korea “will be forced to take corresponding steps.”
Previously, North Korea also said that US-South Korean war games in South Korea - similar to joint maneuvers that have been carried out for decades - threatened the nuclear talks. North Korea said that the exercises now are “provocative saber-rattling [and] an uncouth act little short of leveling a gun at the dialogue partner.”North Korea’s agitated demeanor extended beyond its words for the United States as their direct talks with Japan on normalizing diplomatic relations ended after only 45 minutes.
And then there's this, "The Democrats are blinking and taking out of proposed legislation a provision that would have forbidden Bush to take military action against Iran without coming to the Congress first (i.e. without acting in accordance with the Constitution). (Juan Cole)

Thanks everybody and good points, A Voice of Reason. Everybody know it was Ahmadinejad, but you won't the government to admit it. I trust the people who were there, who were taken hostage, and they say it was Ahmadinejad.
We can't be afraid to act when faced with an undeniable threat.

America needs to remember the response given by the then Soviet Union and by the US in one of the first events that portrayed the face of radical Jihadism, the takeover of the US Embassy in Iran.
America negotiated and wrung their hands. Result was egg on the face for years, and creating heroes for standing up to the "Imperialist Infidels". Russian response, We will invade your country without remorse or mercy. Result: their hostages freed within two hours. Amazing that this incident didn't hit the MSM isn't it?
Time to remember the mindframe of speak softly and carry a big stick. And don't be so worried about what your enemies think if you need to use it.

Sweet-talk? With Russia, China and France doing their part for world-pieces, Ahmadinnerjacket will be given every aid.
Busier work and full-time academia have both conspired to keep me away from my blog, or at least the challenge of restructuring to make room for it again in their light. Yeah, Smoot is an incredible organist. And the music was very organic! :p I've played a bit on that instrument, but my primary one is still the cello, with piano coming in a close second - though nothing spectacular. It is still a lot of fun listening to or playing them!

This is not a plug for former Mayor Giuliani, but his reaction to Arafat being in NYC years back is mentionable along with this post.
In 1995 when the mayor spotted Mr. Arafat, whom I consider a terrorist, making their way to seats at the NY Philharmonic, he gave them the boot.
Of course, he was criticized by the Clinton Administration, as an embarrassment to anyone associated with diplomacy.
However, in retrospect, maybe if more mind were like his, we would not find ourselves in the mess we are in.

The last time Ahmadinejad was allowed in this country, I watched an interview with one of the American hostages. He showed a photo of Ahmadinejad with him and the other hostages. It was clearly Ahmadinejad, although the anchor wouldn't credit it as such.
The security council is worthless in its present state. The man does not belong on this soil.
