Al-Qaeda is upset with the French for electing Nicolas Sarkozy. The Europe Division of al-Qaeda threatened on Tuesday to launch bloody attacks in France. (Hat tip Ernesto)
"As you have chosen the crusader and Zionist Sarkozy as a leader ... we in the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades warn you that the coming days will see a bloody jihadist campaign ... in the capital of Sarkozy," the group's "Europe division" said in an Internet statement addressed to the French people. The campaign will be "against all those who allow themselves to follow the policy" of the US administration, said the statement whose authenticity could not verified.
The group previously claimed responsibility for the July 2005 terror attacks in London, as well those in Madrid in March 2004 and in Istanbul in November 2003.
Just after the London bombings, the group warned European nations to pull their troops out of Iraq within a month or face more attacks like them. (source)
The Democrats say that hatred of the United States has increased around the world since September 11, 2001. I beg to differ. Germany has a pro-American Chancellor, Angela Merkel. France now has President-elect Nicolas Sarkozy, elected by a large majority of the French people, a strong supporter of the U.S. British Prime Minister Tony Blair is expected to be replaced by Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, also a supporter of the United States. Al-Qaeda has already threatened the Germans and the British, now it's France's turn to tighten up security. It's a new world, no one is exempt from terror.
