Politico.com reports that Fred Thompson will announce he is a candidate for President of the United States on July 4th. I can't think of a better day for him to announce. However, Thompson's camp says that is not true. He will announce in July but NOT on the 4th of July holiday. He doesn't want his announcement to get lost in the news and celebrations of the holiday. He's one smart guy.
The latest report says Thompson will announce on July 5.
Fred has my vote. He is not a career politician. He understands the war on terror. He understands the damage illegal aliens have on America and on our security. This is very good news!

Rasta, actually, I believe that my own blog is pretty even handed as well. And since the Democratic party went their way (and I know that I'm not a Democrat by any stretch of the imagination), I have described myself to some friends as a "republicraticliberservative."

Stormwarning, that's exactly why I read Debbies blog religiously. She writes very even-handed, thoughtful stuff and doesn't get blown out if someone disagrees with her.
As for my being a Republican, while I do admittedly lean to the right, I avoid claiming either party as my own, simply because of the partisan categorizing. The old "You're either with us or you're against us" stuff.
I'm a free American and I express my loyalty to my country by protecting it with the truth to the best of my knowledge and ability, and no political party is going to slant my views. When I'm wrong or misinformed I'm happy to say so because truth is better than politics. It feels better too.
Reality is tough to argue with.

It's kinda like one of those deals where you ask:
"When do you know a politician is lying?"
Answer:
"When his lips are moving."
Looking at the choices stacking up I am leaning toward Fred as well. Rudi is basically a liberal. McCain I think has a screw loose somewhere. There is something about Romney that really bothers me but I can't put my finger on it.
I am real unhappy with George Bush. Number one over immigration and number two over the way he has conducted the war. We should never go to war unless we are prepared to do it totally, brutally, and ruthlessly, and we have done none of that.
So while I'm not real happy with Republicans, I can't stomach the thought of Clinton, Obama, or barf gag Edwards.

LOL! Rasta, so now you can join my club of Republicans who have been branded a "librul" by someone because you have deigned to speak the truth.
One of the things that I like about Debbie's blog, The Right Truth, is the while a conservative blog, it does so honestly...that means criticizing the Republican party when its warranted...more often than it should be, BTW.
As for disingenuity, I think that Giuliani is far from being honest with the voters, let alone himself. Thompson? He was a pretty good Senator as far as I know and heard.

LOL, Chris, get a life. Liberal. You want to call names? Ok. You're an IDIOT! Your head is so buried up that dark place on the Far Right that no Republican can do wrong and no Democrat can do right. What a hopeless fool you are.
You love your party far more than you love your country. Political parties don't put brands on people like Liberal and Conservative. If you were paying the slightest attention to anything except your supply of beer and spending less time peering at the neighbors through your blinds, maybe you would have noticed that. There are good people and bad in both parties.
"Can't point out a lie Bush ever told." I guess you never read my blog or watch the news.
Did I mention Clinton? Why is it that every time someone points out what a jerk Bush is, these Far Righters leap out of their seats and scream "Clinton, Clinton", as if that was some sort of valid response? A jerk is a jerk. Period. Stop sounding like a parrot.
As for Reagan, yes, my omission for sure. He was a real patriot and a great President.

Rastaman, I have high hopes. Without hope, what else do we have?
Chris, I have not been as happy with Bush lately and I wold like to be. Especially on immigration.

Like Rastaman, I am a skeptic for some of the very same reasons and then some others.
The only actor I ever trusted was Reagan - he had a "stellar" track record. Thompson's does not even come close to Reagan's.
Also, I wrote up on this -- "act one" - that Thompson and his advisors are staging and I reported that they have trumped announcing this on the Fourth of July--it will be around the Fourth of July because the advisors do not want the announcement lost in all the bbq and holiday festivities.
Figuring he has that acting blood in him it makes sense he would want to be center stage.
Sorry Debbie, I know you like him, I tried to, but he just is to disingenuous my blood.

Ugh.
"Thompson may turn out to be another Bush for all we know. Look at all the stuff Bush told us and what a pile of lying crap that turned out to be."
Go away. I cannot physically stand liberals today. They love to complain about lies, but can never point out a lie that Bush ever told.
However, Clinton made his career by lying and there are a million examples that everyone knows about.

I'm a skeptic. Thompson may turn out to be another Bush for all we know. Look at all the stuff Bush told us and what a pile of lying crap that turned out to be. Now we can hardly wait to get rid of him and put someone else in his place.
Look at all those who wanted to get rid of Clinton and put someone else in his place. Look what we got.
I've been listening to politicians promises for a very long time now, and not a single one has ever kept more than 1 out of 10. Why should I expect Thompson to be even slightly different? Even JFK, who was probably the last true patriot President we had, made some pretty poor moves.
Hope springs eternal, which is why we keep voting for these hacks, thinking that eventually we will finally elect a true savior for America. Rotsaruck.
