Giuliani and NAFTA, say it's not so
More than one source is connecting Rudy Giuliani to the NAFTA superhighway and Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) highway system. Is there really a connection or is this an effort to smear Giuliani?
Here's the story:
The Giuliani connection to this controversial process is through Bracewell & Giuliani, a law firm he joined as senior partner in 2005. Bracewell has already come in for criticism because it represents Citgo, the oil company controlled by Venezuela's anti-American and terrorist-supporting ruler Hugo Chavez.Freelance columnist Dianne M. Grassi broke the story of Giuliani's law firm acting as the exclusive legal counsel for Cintra, the Spanish firm that has been granted the right to operate a toll road in the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) project. Grassi comments, "Most interesting to the whole story is not only has Mr. Giuliani's involvement in the NAFTA Superhighway not ever having been publicly addressed, but how a foreign company is awarded the building of a mass highway system, versus maintaining it, for the first time in U.S. history, and negotiated by the law firm of the top Republican candidate running for President of the United States. And truly disturbing is how such will not only have national and homeland security and sovereignty implications but how it is deliberately being kept away from the Halls of Congress." (Canada Free Press)
The Washington Post article begins in December 2001, when Giuliani began his new firm. The article lists Giuliani's partners, (some with questionable acts in their past), clients, (check it out), money, international connections, and more. Also the comments to the WaPo article a interesting.
The letter he dispatched to the city Conflicts of Interest Board that day asked permission to begin forming a consulting firm with three members of his outgoing administration. The company, Giuliani said, would provide "management consulting service to governments and business" and would seek out partners for a "wide-range of possible business, management and financial services" projects.Over the next five years, Giuliani Partners earned more than $100 million, according to a knowledgeable source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the firm's financial information is private. And that success helped transform the Republican considered the front-runner for his party's 2008 presidential nomination from a moderately well-off public servant into a globe-trotting consultant whose net worth is estimated to be in the tens of millions of dollars. On NAFTA and TCC:
Evidence shows that NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement involving the U.S., Canada and Mexico, is being expanded without congressional approval or oversight as part of a plan to create an economic and political entity known as the North American Union (NAU). Federal documents uncovered by Judicial Watch quote participants in the scheme as saying that an "evolution by stealth" strategy is being used to put the pieces into place. Documents also speak of developing a common security perimeter and a common identification card for citizens of the three countries.Resolutions against the NAU have been introduced in 14 state legislatures-and have passed in two-and thousands of people have turned out in Texas to protest a Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) highway system, which will link the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Critics say the project is being funded by foreign interests, could run roughshod over private property rights, and could facilitate illegal activities, such as the trafficking of people and drugs, from Mexico. I hope it is not a choice between Rudi and a Democrat.
Personally I'm rooting for Fred Thompson

Thanks everyone. I've been outside all day working in the yard. What a beautiful day here.
Brad Marston, you are right. If it comes down to Rudy vs a Democrat, I will be forced to vote for Rudy.
Douglas V. Gibbs, we need to stay away from those internationlists. No good can come from that.

Debbie, Another great post. I am not supporting Giuliani now...but if he gets the nomination of course I will. What other choise do we have. However while there are things wrong with Nafta we have to realize that globalization is here to stay. We can either work it to our advabtage or spend a lot of time barking at the moon.

Hey Brian, you are SO right...you couldn't be more right in fact! I lived in the New York City area...I watched him...good AND bad.
IMO, Rudy is a sham and a huckster. He is an angry and abusive man (one of my associates witnessed his temper and vulgarity in a meeting first hand). For some reason, people seem to ignore the facts and listen to the "forgiveness argument." I am astounded that there are people on the conservative right, the so-called "base," that actually support the man and somehow believe his sudden yet inconsistent conversion to a pseudo-anti-abortion stance. Those people who support Rudy solely because of his anti-terrorism stance, I can almost accept. What I do not "get" are the avowed social conservatives who support him...inexplicable.

Rudi is pro-choice, anti-gun, and pro-illegal alien. Remember in NYC he singed prop 40 into law, which made NYC a sanctuary city. No one who is conservative should be considering voting for this man. He is a social liberal he is only conservative on fiscal issues and he does believe in a strong foreign policy. He will NEVER get my vote.

Like Bush, Daddy Bush, Carter, Clinton, and George Soros, Rudy is an internationalist. Global governance is their goal.

Thanks for doing this one! I did it on my radio show, but forgot to blog on it; this happens allot actually.
Oh, i tracked back after cross posting it, but it didn't show up.

Debbie: I still don't get a sense that the TTC will become a reality anytime soon. I still believe that the North American Union is a very bad idea.
Is Layla, by saying that Giuliani supports "merger," as her supporting the North American Union? I'm really confused if that is the case, because the NAU is still a bad idea (IMO and in the opinions of many others).

A closer examination of that will show that Giuliani's position in that merger affords him better over-sight and direct intervention with any future business transactions or proposals. In short he has his hands on it from start to finish, which in contrast with Bush's idea regarding the Dubai Ports deal --Guiliani's offers a better sense of direct intervention.
Besides, remember how the hoopla about Cheney and Haliburton subsided despite all the media's hype and misrepresentation of the facts.

Debbie, nothing politicians do surprise me anymore.........

Very possibly the Bracewell Giuliani connection (including his lobbying self-interests and conflicts) will be his undoing.
Giuliani is a sham. I'm simply astounded at the lack of "deep thinking" of people who support him so blindly.
My post of May 8th, "Deconstructing the Rudy Myth" covered the NAFTA connection. Rudy is fooling alot of people right now, only proving that some people will believe anything. Can't account for the "IQ sharing" phenomena, but unfortunately, most elections in this country are decided by the LEAST COMMON DENOMINATOR.
