Isn't it amazing...global warming trumps national security
The United States of America is giving $14m-worth of anti-terror training and equipment funds to Kenya, while Democrats in the U.S. are diverting CIA funds from the GWOT to ... climate change. “We’re concerned that global warming might impact our ability to maintain national security,” said Intelligence panel Chairman Silvestre Reyes, Texas Democrat.
The House next week will consider the Democrat-crafted Intelligence Authorization bill, which includes a provision directing an assessment of the effects that climate change has on national security . . . [snip]“We want to get feedback from the intelligence community to understand if there are possible global issues,” Mr. Reyes said. (Washington Times )
I suppose that’s good news the CIA will try to determine if warmer weather will somehow make jihadists more determined to remake the world in their shadow? [snip]
Remember though, this is the same man who had no clue what the difference between Sunni and Shia is, stating “it’s not like the Hatfields and the McCoys, it’s a heck of a lot more complex.” And now he’s determined divert funds used to gather intelligence of America’s enemies and find out if climate change will do anything. Other interesting headlines, the pro-Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants in Pakistan believe selling music and video CDs is repugnant to the teachings of Islam ... so they are blowing up music stores. This is what you can look forward to if sharia law takes over a country. Or more precisely, if you spend your anti-terrorism funds on a non-issue like global warming rather than killing the enemy.
Continuing with the theme of retarded actions around the world, the United States has set up a TIME LINE for Israel and the Palestinians. Yes, you read that right. What is it with time lines these days?
The timeline asks Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by mid-June to start deploying his forces to halt rocket fire and smuggling by Gaza militants, according to officials with access to the document. It also asks Israel to reciprocate by taking steps to ease the movement of people and goods between the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. Five high ranking Al-Qaeda operatives were killed in Iraq, but poor al-Qaida propagandist Muharib Abdul-Latif al-Jubouri couldn't rest in peace because there were delays in identifying al-Jubouri's body and misunderstandings among Iraqi security forces ... which resulted in al-Jubouri's body doing some traveling across the country before burial.
Caldwell and Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said al-Jubouri's body was released to his tribe for burial, then seized twice by Iraqi forces who apparently did not know it had been cleared by the military — once at a checkpoint in Baghdad and later at a Sunni mosque in the capital.Garver said he believed the body had been finally returned to the tribe, but its whereabouts were uncertain. No wonder we don't know who's actually dead or alive, or whether Abu Ayyub al-Masri is pushing up daisies or not. *sigh* With so many aliases it's hard to keep up with these guys, but someone named al-Shihawi and also Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, have been confirmed dead. At least that's the story today.
Then there's this, U.S.-led forces on Friday arrested a "secret cell" of "Shiite militants", possibly "Iranians", or possibly "Mahdi Army" (trained in Iran) who have been smuggling "powerful bombs known as "explosively formed penetrators," or EFPs, from Iran into Iraq. This comes at the same time as protests in Najaf and Basra over a talk show on Al-Jazeera.
Shiites poured onto the streets of Najaf and Basra to protest what they considered insults by Al-Jazeera television against Iraq's most revered Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.The protesters were angered by an Al-Jazeera talk show this week in which the host, Egyptian Ahmed Mansour, questioned al-Sistani's leadership credentials and whether he authored his own religious edicts. Perhaps Iraq should be diverting some of their anti-terror funds to global warming.

Thanks everyone, and Ortho ... I think the big question here is whether funds will be diverted from national security and moved to global warming. I hope that doesn't happen.

Hi Debbie. Yesterday, I read about the first two "news" items--Kenya and "climate change"--in my local newspaper.
Sub-Saharan Africa shall increase in strategic, geopolitical important during the next 20 or 30 years. You may find the National Intelligence Council's "Mapping Sub-Saharan Africa's Future" of interest. http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/nic/africa_future.pdf
The governments of many Western, industrialized nations view "climate change" as a national security issue. Both the 2002 and 2006 editions of The National Security Strategy of the United States view "climate change" as a threat to national security.
2002 National Secruity Strategy: http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/nssall.html
2006 National Secruity Strategy: http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/nss/2006/
Clearly, a discourse of "climate change" and "global warming" drives some of the tactics and strategies of the U.S. Government. In the future, all wars shall be fought over scarce ecological resources.
I see people who attempt to challenge a discourse of "global warming" as idealistic peaceniks. They're attempting to prevent the spread of multifront planetary warfare for control of ecological resources--especially water and arable land.
I enjoy reading your blog. I look forward to reading more of your thought-provoking posts.
