Memorial Day Weekend Thoughts ...
Memorial Day is a time to remember the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future. It's a time to give thanks for those who have given their lives and health to keep this nation safe. Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to honor those brave soldiers who are still with us, thank them for the freedoms we enjoy. Memorial Day weekend is also a time to enjoy family, food, fun, freedom. Most important there is no better time than the present to contemplate our future as a free people. Decisions we make today can't be taken back. Something to think about. (Image via Joe Katzman of Winds of Change.net, "War As A Spectator Sport" Click to Enlarge)
In an excellent Memorial Day article, "Those who’ve passed before us haven’t really left", By R.J. Godlewski, he writes:
Some may argue that it’s all a matter of shock; when we lose a loved one, our emotions wane and only after time are we able to reflect upon their absence with a clear mind. I wonder. True, I was geared more towards the future then – immediately after Sara’s death – than I am today. It could be that I’ve had time to reflect upon my ‘missing half’ and with less stress, I am able to feel the subtle sadness that comes from realizing that, as the survivor, I must proceed on with my life. These thoughts are very much appropriate today as we begin a long weekend to observe Memorial Day – a day in which we honor those brave servicemen and servicewomen who gave their lives so that we may live. This would be a rather significant day of reflection for any year, but one more poignant for we are, once again, a nation at war. Death is never an easy subject to discuss, but I wish – for the benefit of those who’ve lost loved ones in war – instead to discuss life; their life. [snip]
While you are reflecting upon the price already paid, whenever you come across a person in uniform, kindly extend your hand in gratitude, for you just never know who’ll have to pick up the tab the next time that the bill comes around to our table. Enjoy your freedoms, but always – always – know that we’re here on lease, not ownership. Someone has to keep making the payments. (go read it all)

I'm concerned about the direction our country is headed. Some in this country don't seem to have the spine that previous generations are known for. We face an enemy like we have never faced before. I have no doubt our military can do whatever job is placed before them. But they need a nation at home supporting them 100% to accomplish their mission. If we allow this enemy to push us back and humiliate us now, we will surely pay for that mistake in the near future.
To our troops, I say God bless you every one. To the families of those who have gone on before us, we thank you for your sacrifice. May God comfort you, guide you, and give you peace. Amen and Amen.

A very beautiful trubute.

Here is a prayer composed by the Orthodox Union of Rabbis for the American soldiers- I will try to say it often:
Almighty G-d on High, omnipotent King, look down from Your
Sanctified Abode, and bless the valiant soldiers of the American
Forces who risk their lives to protect the welfare of all Your creation.
Benevolent G-d, be their shelter and fortress, and to not allow
them to falter. May harmony dwell in their ranks, victory in their
battalion. Fill their hearts with faith and courage to thwart
the evil schemes of our enemies and to abolish every rule of evil.
Protect them on land, in the air and in the sea, and destroy their
adversaries. Guide them in peace, lead them toward peace, and
return them speedily to their families alive and unharmed.
Grant us true peace in fulfillment of the prophecy: "Nation shall not
lift up sword against another nation, nor shall they learn war any more."
Let all the inhabitants of the world know that Dominion is Yours,
and Your Name inspires awe upon all that You have created.
May this be Your will, and let us say, Amen.
P.S. I'll link to you if you link to me.
