Political Bulletin has the best comprehensive coverage of the latest immigration bill in congress. Looking at all the major coverage, it seems the big worry is the bill won't pass the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she won't bring it up unless President Bush can guarantee he will produce 70 Republican backers.
Some illegals are saying that paying $5,000, waiting between eight and 13 years, and having to return home is too much ... they will instead continue to remain here illegally. They would get the "Z-visa" only when the border security requirements are completed.
As George Stephanopoulos said on ABC World News, "Both Republicans and Democrats in the Senate say they think it can get through the Senate with more than 60 votes next week. But after that, it has to go to the House. That's where the political terrain gets very tough. ... There are political and substantive reasons. You have Democrats, including the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, who says the Senate bill has to be improved on the issues of family and guest workers. You have a lot of Republicans who don't like the legalization provisions at all. They call it amnesty. And finally, politically, you have a lot of vulnerable Democrats who say they will not go along with this bill." (more)
Fred Thompson on the new immigration bill:
"With this bill, the American people are going to think they are being sold the same bill of goods as before on border security. We should scrap this bill and the whole debate until we can convince the American people that we have secured the borders or at least have made great headway." (via The Corner and The Bill T Blog)
Geraldo Rivera, on Fox and Friends this morning, blamed the large number of illegal aliens in the United States on September 11, 2001. He said before September 11 illegals could flow back and forth across the border, visiting family and friends in Mexico at will. But after September 11, the borders were secure and the illegals were terrorized at the border and could not return home, thus being forced to stay here. Oh. My. Goodness. What a retarded, ignorant, bloviating, bag of gas Geraldo is. He never ceases to make me gag.
Other observations on the immigration bill:

This is not the end of the world as we know it.
Learning Straight Up, "Lighten up, it could be worse."
Here is what conservatives need to do: Get it going fast and DEMAND it be funded and enforced. Tell congress to shit or get off the pot. Make it do something useful. And then if it fails, congress takes the blame for passing bad laws. What conservatives cannot do is fracture their party over this bill and this one issue.
That would play straight into the democrat's hands.
Adams Blog must be dreaming, he asks us to "Imagine a President ..."
Imagine a Presidential Candidate who will tell you the truth, not in some fake polished attempt at "Straight Talk" but the honest, politically incorrect truth.

Nick, thanks for the compliment. I hope you enjoy Right Truth. I only express my personal views here. I try not to fall lock-step behind anyone or any group. A longer, detailed explanation of my view of the world would take too long here.
I believe in small government, a government that will protect and defend it's citizens. That is most important to me.

Having entered your site, I am so impressed with your marvellous diversity of information and opinion.
But let me ask - why are your views on the world so much better than everyone else's? Please enlighten me as to how you have come to your insightful and compelling conclusions, just to reaffirm that all your beliefs are on solid ground.
I would ask also that you could explain it to me simply, outlining what you mean clearly. For I am a simple man, and know not of this truth you have discovered, so I will need to be explained to simply, and I may ask same dumb questions.
Thanks,
Nick

Geraldo makes me sick! I truly can not stomach him any longer. He is so full of crap it is not even funny.
It is glaringly obvious he is on the 'other' side. If one looks real close you could probably could find him at the illegal alien protests/riots. Heh..

Fred, Fred..RUN NOW. I heard him on Mark Levin's Show and he was amazing. He has the plan, border security first. I am speechless at what has occurred in the House of Lords, (formally known as the Senate of the Unites States). Anytime Ted Kennedy is the spokesman for any bill it should worry all Americans. To those that support Guilani, I want to see the wiggle room you give him on this one. Fred, now it is the time, the times make the man..time's here.

Didn't we just go through this last year??? I hope you're right and they don't have the votes. One of our Senators that was just elected last November ran as being tough on illegals - I called her office and I plan on calling again next week once she has had a chance to go through the whole thing. We shall see. . .

This is crazy. How exactly did they expect us citizens not to view this as a sell out of our country? I've been looking at the whole 790 page bill... it's a nightmare of double talk, semantics, and loopholes galore.
