Six plot to kill U.S. soldiers UPDATE III
UPDATE III: The news conference. (live blogging) Representatives from just about every organization in the U.S. were present.
The video shows the men in military garb, shouting jihadi threats, was the beginning of this investigation. The cell was infiltrated by law enforcement. They had jihadist video tapes, two of the September 11 hijackers, al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.
They were prepared to die for Allah. They wanted to cause a power outage, to make their attack easier. They regretted missing an opportunity to kill military and civilians at the Army-Navy football game.
They watched a video of an American getting his arm blown off, and they laughed. They planned to do 'big things'.
(This is the model for the post-September 11 era. Jihad doesn't always come in the form of large scale attacks with airplanes and buildings. The point of jihad is to cause terror. They identified their target, did their surveillance, they obtained some of their weapons, ...)
Feds: Today we dodged a bullet. Thanks to the private citizen for coming forward. The clerk who saw the jihadist video is a hear.
**END LIVE BLOGGING**
This reminds me of the private citizens on the airlines who reported the 'flying imams'. Our future safety may depend on private citizens reporting what they perceive as a threat!
UPDATE II: These Muslim men had access to the base because one of them was a pizza delivery person who was allowed into the base. They already had some AK-47's in their possession (as well as other weapons?), and were trying to purchase more, along with M 16 battle rifles.
The six were illegal aliens from Yugoslavia, (Albania ?) and Jordan. Fox News is reporting one is from Turkey. Now there are suspected Al-Qaeda connections:
U.S. Attorney's Office spokesperson Greg Reinert stated that those picked up in the terror sweep were "Islamic radicals" and it is believed that the six may have been operating under the direction of al-Qaeda. (source)
They had reportedly been under surveillance by the FBI for months, and
... practiced by shooting paintball guns and real weapons in a rural area of the Poconos, one source said. They also allegedly watched jihadist videos in which Osama bin Laden urged them toward martyrdom.“They were prepared to die,” said the law enforcement source. “We became increasingly convinced this was for real and these guys were ready to roll.”… (The Star Ledger)
Here is the criminal complaint (pdf) and the names of the terrorists (Hot Air):
Dritan Duka (illegal alien)Eliver Duka (illegal alien)
Shain Duka (illegal alien)
Serdar Tatar
Mohamad Shnewer
Agron Abdullahu
Confederate Yankee reports, "A total of ten men were seen on the video that launched the investigation, as reported in this document obtained by The Smoking Gun."
So where are the other four men on the video?
Chad at In The Bullpen reported yesterday on Zawahiri's latest video and the fact that al-Qaeda is trying to recruit 'white' jihadists from all nations.
Zawahiri claims membership into Al Qaida is open-ended and welcomes all.
“Al-Qaida is not merely for the benefit of Muslims,” he said. “That’s why I want blacks in America, people of color, American Indians, Hispanics, and all the weak and oppressed in North and South America, in Africa and Asia, and all over the world.” [snip]Read the full translation and see a brief video clip at Laura Mansfield’s site.
UPDATE I: At least three of the six are Muslims and at least three are illegal aliens. via Fox News
The six, living in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, wanted to "kill as many soldiers as possible" at Fort Dix using automatic weapons. They have now been arrested and the authorities have 'video and an audiotape of the planning.' (CNN/AP)
The suspects will appear later today in federal court in Camden to face charges of conspiracy to kill US servicemen.
At the time of the arrests, the plot was in the planning stages and no attack was imminent, CBS News has learned. Officials said this is more of a "homegrown" plot with no ties to al Qaeda or any other international terrorist organization, CBS News reports.
A law enforcement official said that the men had lived in the United States for some time and were arrested as part of a joint federal and local investigation.
The arrests were first reported by WNBC-TV in New York. The station, citing an anonymous law enforcement official, said the group discussed attacking other military installations, including Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and Fort Monmouth in New Jersey before settling on Fort Dix.
The Star-Ledger of Newark reported on its Web site that the men had agreed to buy AK-47 assault rifles from an arms dealer who was secretly cooperating with the FBI. The Star-Ledger report cited a law enforcement source granted anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak about the arrest.
The newspaper reported that the men had videotaped their training sessions in the Poconos. The video eventually led to their arrests as the men brought the tape to a retail store seeking to have it burned to a DVD, the newspaper reported, citing its source.
A store employee watched the tape and informed the FBI, the newspaper reported. [snip]
Fort Dix is used to train soldiers, particularly reservists. It also housed refugees from Kosovo in 1999. (CBS)
While not the brightest criminals in the world, it doesn't take a genius to point an AK-47 at someone and pull the trigger. It's good these guys were caught before any innocent soldiers could be killed, but wait for the naysayers to jump in defending these 6 as 'disaffected youths', or some other nonsense.
The names and ages of the six have not been released at this time.

White letters on a black background is almost impossible for someone with glasses to read.

Thanks everybody. I think the take away from all of this is the private citizen who turned these guys in. We need more of that and we also need a law to protect these John Doe's

Why comment? Everyone has already taken all of the "good stuff." LOL...this isn't the first time and it won't be last time that someone inside our country had acted against it. This brings up a few points:
- willy-nilly allowance of people to a base should have ended long before Sept. 11th. Anytime I've had to go onto a secure facility, I needed to submit ID and info. a week ahead for clearance. It just took me 6 weeks to go thru an FBI background check for something I'm doing.
- secure documents, secure documents, secure documents (if I know nothing about anything else, I know about secure documents)...we don'thave them (yet). If you don't know about, urge your state to implement the Real ID Act of 2005 regardless of the costs.
- if any of them are citizens, whatever happened to treason? If they're not citizens, how about a dose of "sedition?" One such provision, the Alien Enemies Act is still on the books as of earlier this year: http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/milestones/sedition/a-text.html
I guess I shoulda waited...:)

Re the illegals under surveillance it's possible rounding them up would have broken up the cell before they got in position to find out about how deep it went, etc.
Otherwise, a clear example of paying the piper for not enforcing our own laws.
As for the left, easy to predict-- a combo of "this is just another scare tactic from Bushitler" to "this was only a reaction to the wingnuts and their hatred of immigrants" or maybe "the lack of universal health care is causing stress". Of course CAIR will blame it on "Islamaphobia".

Debbie, you know what after reading your post I was going to comment, but I decided first to read the comments instead to see how others are viewing this.
Mr. Hamilton's comments took the words right out of my mouth.
His analogy is perfect. Sometimes I really question what our laws are there for? I mean - the law is applied sometimes, but not at other times. It is disgusting.
I also agree with Steve. It is time this pc nonsense in how we refer to Muslims or any one else for that matter needs to stop.
What happened to calling a spade a spade?

"The six were illegal aliens from Yugoslavia, (Albania ?) and Jordan. Fox News is reporting one is from Turkey."
"They had reportedly been under surveillance by the FBI for months,"
I have a question:
If they were known to be illegal aliens (criminal invaders) and under surveillence for months?!?!?! Why were they not rounded up and removed months ago if for no other reason than being criminal invaders?
Analogy:
Well this woman has a cancer in her belly but we're just gonna sit back and watch it for a while until it starts to cause trouble and then we'll do something about it.
This stuff is insane.

I agree with you completely, Steve. I'm wondering now how these guys got here, at least three are illegal aliens. Political correctness be darned.

I think we're all getting tired of the media insisting on calling Muslims "youth", "disaffected youths" "disenfranchised youths" or how about "Asian youths in immigration population areas" and god knows what else - anything - but don't use the word Muslim, because they will all be offended.
I say screw being offended. It's time we dump the compassionate conservatism crap. I say, roll out the trains.
