This is the situation for America, the war against Islamic terror, and the world situation. The United States of America is safer today than we were previously. The U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says it may not be a good idea to pull troops out of Iraq. War games suggest dividing Iraq into three separate nations might be the answer. "Premature Withdrawal could well lead to a unified Islamic jihadist block from India to the Mediterranean Sea." Al-Qaeda still wants to attack the United States, INSIDE the U.S., with another major attack like September 11, 2001. Madrassas in Pakistan (and Saudi Arabia, and the United States) are still teaching hatred for the West. Here's the details:
Recent "war games" conducted on Iraq, for the U.S. military by retired Marine Col. Gary Anderson had some interesting results:
If U.S. combat forces withdraw from Iraq in the near future, three developments would be likely to unfold. Majority Shiites would drive Sunnis out of ethnically mixed areas west to Anbar province. Southern Iraq would erupt in civil war between Shiite groups. And the Kurdish north would solidify its borders and invite a U.S. troop presence there. In short, Iraq would effectively become three separate nations. [snip]"I honestly don't think it will be apocalyptic," said Anderson, who has served in Iraq and now works for a major defense contractor. But "it will be ugly." (Washington Post)
Ban Ki-Moon Says Excercise Caution In Iraq Surrender, Pirate's Cove:
He’s not doing much to clean up that organized crime agency known as the United Nations, but, at least the guy understands some part of realityNEW YORK — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged U.S. policy-makers yesterday to exercise "great caution" in considering any rapid withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Iraq."It is not my place to inject myself into this discussion taking place between the American people, government and Congress," said Mr. Ban, who was expected to repeat the message during meetings on Capitol Hill today.
"But I’d like to tell you that a great caution should be taken for the sake of the Iraqi people," he said at a U.N. press conference. "Any abrupt withdrawal or decision may lead to a further deterioration."
The Problem with Premature Withdrawal - The Iraq Surge and NIE Implications
America is sleeping again...as a population, we have become complacent. Fearfully, I believe that it is that complacency that could lead to a disasterous terrorist event launched from within the United States (not discounting the possibility of sleeper cells already here, or terrorists entering the United States under surreptitious means and motives). The external war is being fought daily. To allow Iraq to fall by a Premature Withdrawal could well lead to a unified Islamic jihadist block from India to the Mediterranean Sea. There are nearly 200 million Muslims in India. Doubt that the spread of al Qaeda style Islamic jihad in Pakistan would not lead to a spread to India? Its the arbitrary British colonial boundaries that once again fool you. A new intelligence report (pdf) predicts that al Qaeda will intensify efforts to put operatives in the United States (ABC)
The latest National Intelligence Estimate says al Qaeda's "central leadership continues to plan high-impact plots."
The NIE report also shows America is safer than in previous years:
Greatly increased worldwide counterterrorism efforts over the past five years have constrained the ability of al Qaeda to attack the U.S. homeland again and have led terrorist groups to perceive the homeland as a harder target to strike than on 9/11," the new estimate states. (Washington Post)
From Open Mouth Insert Foot, direct from Pakistan, "The 'Madressah' Ideology":
Given their social network and political clout, it can safely be assumed that this institution could alter the basic social and political structure of society. The growing incidence of religious radicalism across the country has conveyed that message loud and clear.... Its students and teachers are hostile to the processes of globalisation and cross-cultural interactions. Because of their literalism and scholarly traditions, they do not subscribe to contemporary perceptions of statehood, secular democracy, nationalism, rule of law, writ of the state, pluralism, tolerance, gender equality and dichotomy of public and private spheres. Wow. Can that be for real? The U.N. actually cautioning the U.S. against premature withdrawal. What a miracle!
Then again, easy to say when the bulk of the fighters there are ours.
But maybe the libs in this country will listen to the useless U.N.and not make any hasty decisions. Could put a crimp in their political agenda though, considering their election promises are based on pulling out.
Should be interesting!!

I've liked the three state solution from the beginning as long as we can get the Kurds and the Turks to play nice.

Very interesting. I wonder if the lefties in the States, who keep saying "pull out now" and pinning their hopes on the UN, will notice the irony...

Hey Mike! Original comment...I heard Limbaugh say those very words on the radio yesterday.

Mr. Kaiser: Getting the Kurds and Turks to play nice will be hard. As for the partitioning, please read: "Another Way" in Iraq - http://moonagewebdream.blogs.com/storms_counter_terrorism/2007/07/its-time-to-loo.html

Good point Michael.
Incognito, I was surprised at the UN also. But Ban Ki Moon is not like Kofi Annan, thanks goodness.
John Kaiser, this three-state solution has been talked about since the beginning. The only real problem with it is the oil, and sharing the profits. I'm not sure how that would work out.
Stormwarning, the Turks would be a consideration for sure.

Believe it or not, but I can't stand Limbaugh, and never listen to him.
Can't get his show here, anyway...

Very true Michael, and frankly I owe you an apology for my sarcastic post. You were the recipient of my anger toward another.
