Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Neal Boortz, YOU, and Islam
In the United States, free speech applies to everybody and everything, except if you speak out about Islam. Then you get accused of being Islamophobic, hate-filled, blah blah blah. It doesn't matter if you are an average citizen or if you are a well-known columnist (Cal Thomas), or radio show host (Neal Boortz), or politician (Bush), or a Muslim woman (now former Muslim woman, Ayaan Hirsi Ali), or an passenger on an airline who notices 'suspicious behavior'. You speak out about Islam and you are in their cross-hairs.
Neal Boortz is under fire from Muslims because he said 'Islam is a cult'. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has been on Boortz case since. Here's the video (via YouTube)and a transcript is here:
The caller began: "Sir, I'm calling because of some statements you've been making in the past week about the religion of Islam and … "Boortz interrupted: It's a cult, it's not even a religion. … " [snip]
CAIR, which brands itself as a mainstream promoter of civil rights, has been named with two other prominent U.S. Islamic groups as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in a plot to fund the terrorist group Hamas. Jury selection is underway for the trial in Dallas.
CAIR is a spinoff of the defunct Islamic Association for Palestine, launched by Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook and former university professor Sami al-Arian, who pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to provide services to Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Several CAIR staffers have been convicted on terrorism-related charges, and CAIR founder Omar Ahmad allegedly told a group of Muslims they are in America not to assimilate but to help assert Islam's rule over the country. Neal Boortz did not call Islam "occult", which is defined as "of or pertaining to magic, astrology, or any system claiming use or knowledge of secret or supernatural powers or agencies" and which many of us connect with devil worship. What he said was Islam is a cult. The definition of "cult" is:
a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
I think Boortz was correct.
An Interview With Ayaan Hirsi Ali
On The Map with Avi Lewis: Ayaan Hirsi Ali & Islamophobia via 3 Quarks Daily(YouTube)
The following "Can Hirsi Ali Lead An Islamic Reformation?" by Dinesh D'Souza at NewsBloggers
I admire Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who suffered female circumcision and escaped an arranged marriage to a much older Muslim man in Somalia. Ali fled first to the Netherlands and then to the United States. Given what she endured at the hands of her Muslim family and community, I can't blame her for becoming an atheist. But now this atheist seems to be trying to lead an Islamic reformation. Speaking at the Sydney Writers Festival, she called on Muslims to "review the example of the prophet Muhammad. Muslims are not used to criticizing Islam, they are not used to criticizing the prophet Muhammad." Well, Buddhists are not used to criticizing the Buddha either. Jews aren't known for their denunciations of Moses. Nor do believing Christians typically criticize the founder of their religion, Christ. Attacks on the founders of religions usually come from other religions, or from the enemies of religion.
All I can say is be strong. Speak the truth.
I would like to recommend an article, "There are 5 Americans being held hostage in Iran" at Rosemary's Thoughts. She expresses my feelings perfectly on Americans being held hostage by Iran. We are sitting back doing nothing. Go read it and let Rosemary know your feelings.

Definition of a Shaheed: or, the Islamic do's and dont's of killing yourself
I stumbled upon a charming website , Caravan of Martyrs, that clinically defines what a Shaheed aka Jihadi Martyr aka killer of himself along with others who aren't Muslim, is.Her discourse outlines the difference between just plain old suicide, which is verboten in Islam, and martyrdom, which is praiseworthy. Regardless of political affiliations and partisan irreverence, the thoughts and writings of these and other commentators deserve serious consideration to those that have made up their minds about what is best in Iraq.

Irfan Yusuf, did you read Rob's comment? I never delete any comments from folks, unless they use bad language. I like to hear from people with all viewpoints. Make your point. Defend your view, state your view.

Debbie, I don't see much honest debate. Just lots of sectarian bigotry. It looks more like a mass debate.

If Islam is a death-cult, Christianity is holy genocide.

Rob, you make a good point. There are nuts and fanatics in all religions. I never cared for Pat Robertson, he was always a loon. Jerry Fallwell did a lot of good, but he also had his weird times.
The definition of cult does not apply to Christianity, "living outside of conventional society", because Christians try very hard to live within the laws of the land, the 'norm' and live in peace with other religions. While Christians may hope others will convert, we don't kill people if they choose NOT to convert.
Islam on the other hand does not accept any other religion, convert or else.

Based on your supplied definition, which is probably just one of many available, that makes christianity a cult.
And of course in Islamic eyes, precisely true.
Both claim to be right, and both are willing to kill to maintain their rightness, as history has shown us. The current version for christianity is the killing of doctors, while Muslims go the whole nine yards and kill themselves as well as others as human bombs. In that regard, chrisitianity has the advantage of being able to allow a country's military to do it's work. Too bad it's "christian" commander in chief is an idiot, and has allowed the perpetrator of 9.11 and his organization to regroup while wasting Americas military resources in a witch hunt that has destabilized the entire Middle East.
Maybe it's time for some of these so called christians, like assassination promoter Pat Robertson and the now dead "God is pro-war" Falwell and their ilk to try using less faith and more reason in the brains their alleged god gave them.
Better yet, let's remove them from office and allow them to marginalize themselves with their extremist views and charismatic leaders.

Irfan Yusuf, I don't know why you would say such a thing. This blog is against terrorism and I see from reading your blog, you are also against terrorism.
You are for free speech, honest debate, that is what this blog is about.
