Christians crucified in Iraq

Christians are being threatened, tortured, killed and even crucified in Iraq. Al-Qaeda in Iraq have threatened to kill anyone who converts to Christianity or Zoroastrianism. Via IraqSlogger.com (hat tip Michael), who reports that "about 500 Kurdish Muslim youths have converted to Christianity since 2006 throughout Kurdistan."

“We are hunting those who have converted to Christianity or Zoroastrianism as we consider them renegades and God’s punishment must be implemented by killing them," said a statement posted on the al-Farouk website on 22 April and signed by al-Qaeda in Iraq.

The statement, whose authenticity could not be immediately confirmed, also urged the youth to join “ Mujahedin and hoist the jihad flag against the crusaders who are occupying Iraq, instead of supporting them.”

"Christians in Iraq, including converts from Islam and people involved in mixed-faith marriages, are being crucified by Muslim terrorists, according to a Dutch member of Parliament studying the war-torn country." Via WND, hat tip Michael)

Several Iraqi Christians "are nailed to a cross and their arms are tied up with ropes. The ropes are put on fire," Joel Voordewind told BosNewsLife, an online news agency focusing on Christians and Jews in difficult circumstances.

According to the site, Voordewind described how a person, who "survived" a crucifixion, "even showed holes in his hands," apparently from nails.

Voordewind said victims of the crucifixions are "in most cases Christian converts who abandoned Islam or people who, religiously speaking, are involved in mixed marriages."

In China:

"More than 100 foreign Christians in China have been accused of being involved in illegal activities and have been expelled in just a 90-day period, the biggest assault on the presence of Christianity in China since 1954, according to a new report from the Voice of the Martyrs." (WND)

"China has launched a series of crackdowns on Christianity in advance of the 2008 Olympic Games scheduled in Beijing, but now the international ministry group Open Doors USA is calling for the release of one of the men apparently caught up in that campaign, prominent underground pastor Zhang Rongliang, whose health is failing." (WND)

Nashville's Cumberland House Publishing is facing a lawsuit from an author described in the legal filing as a "respected factual reporter of the Islamofascist terrorist threat to the United States."

Pennsylvania writer Paul L. Williams has sued after the local publisher backed away from his claims, made in a book it had brought out last year, that terrorists bent on carrying out an "American Hiroshima" have stolen 180 pounds of nuclear material from a Canadian university.

If they can't torture you, crucify you, kill you, they will sue you.

Jess, I don't know how many Christians were killed under Saddam, do you? How about the number of Kurds? Or the number of Shia? Or the number of Sunni? I don't have the exact number because the unmarked mass graves are still being uncovered.

I do know that it is in the hundreds of thousands and rising.

What does everyone make of Daniel Pearl's wife suing Al Qaeda? Symbolism over substance, but in the case of Islamofacists, the courts are also your gallows. Great post.
