FDA official executed
No, not an American FDA official, a former Chinese State Food and Drug Administration director was executed. Why? Under his "tenure his agency approved six medicines that turned out to be fake." Zheng Xiaoyu lied, and at least 10 people died. The punishment, execution.
China’s state television and the official Xinhua News Agency said that China had executed Zheng Xiaoyu the former State Food and Drug Administration director.Zheng Xiaoyu managed China’s operation to review and approve food and drugs from 1998 until 2005.
During Zheng’s tenure his agency approved six medicines that turned out to be fake, and the drug-makers used falsified documents to apply for approvals, according to previous state media reports. One antibiotic caused the deaths of at least 10 people.
Zheng, 63, was convicted of taking cash and gifts worth $832,000 when he was in charge of the State Food and Drug Administration.
At the time of his conviction, nearly all China watchers predicted that his sentence would be downgraded to life imprisonment, ... [snip]
This execution was a needless act of cruelty to assuage the fears of the west about Chinese-made products and to “save face” for the Chinese leadership. [snip]
So China, to lesson its own shame and to regain its market share, heartlessly executed a bureaucrat whose crime was looking the other way for less than a million dollars. (Peace and Freedom)
That's China for you. Don't get your prescriptions filled there, or buy toothpaste, or eat fresh produce, or ...

BTW, this is just another reason to oppose drug importation from Canada or eleswhere. It is also another reason to more strongly regulate the purchase of Rx drugs over the Internet.

So Bernie, I guess I'd expect a comment like that from you...you'd "execute anyone who works for the FDA, IRS, FCC, DEA or any other worthless 3-initial flim-flam entity."
Frankly, that's stupid. The US-FDA is a broken agenncy in need of reform (what would you do in place)...so is the DHS. What's wrong with DoD? How about DEA, what's wrong with it?
Better than that...what would you do instead? Please expound.
As for buying US made only...***I agree***. But do you know that garments made from USA-manufactured components are assembled in places like China, Malaysia, India, Indonesia and the rest of South Asia? And still carry a "Made in the USA" label...did ya?

I agree. Cruel? To kill off some scumbag who endangered literally the entire population of the world for his own personal gain? When his acts directly resulted in many deaths?
Kill him twice. Slowly.

I was happy to read the headline but was disappointed with the rest of the article. How lovely life would be in these United States if only we had the courage to execute anyone who works for the FDA, IRS, FCC, DEA or any other worthless 3-initial flim-flam entity.

Our own FDA is no longer trustworthy. Perhaps China has it got it right in this one area. What that official did is akin to committing murder knowingly - pre-meditated. I have no sympathy for him and he got what he deserved. As for buying from China -- it is cheap crap. I've pitch everything in my house if it says Made in China - and I do not buy it if it is Made in China. PFFFFFFFFFFT!
