Road to Middle East peace paved with cash and bad decisions
With President Bush and PM Olmert releasing prisoners, giving amnesty to terrorists, and passing out tons of cash, one would think the Palestinians would be jumping for joy. Think again.
United States President George W. Bush promised yesterday to give $190 million in new aid to the Abbas government and promised a meeting this fall to get the road map to peace back on the road. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert promised to release 250 Palestinian prisoners (aka terrorists) and offered amnesty to nearly 200 wanted Fatah militiamen in the West Bank.
Israel hails, Hamas slams Bush bid for broad Arab-Israeli summit from Rhod on Public Affairs (Haaretz):
Hamas, however, accused Bush of planning a "crusade" with the Palestinians as its target.Speaking in Gaza, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri accused Bush of outlining "a plot to launch a crusade against the Palestinian people."
GAZA STRIPPED, Steyn Online, on leadership and the “sole legitimate representative” of the "Palestinian people."
... In Afghanistan and Iraq, for example, we understood there were multiple representatives representing different slivers of their diverse peoples. But in “Palestine” it was a lot easier. The rap against most Middle Eastern nations is that they’re the artificial inventions of the French and British colonial administrators of 1922. There may be an Iraq drawn on a map by Winston Churchill after lunch but there’s no “Iraqis” – just Sunni, Shia, Kurds. But it’s the opposite scenario in “Palestine”. There has never been a Palestinian state yet there is apparently a Palestinian people, fully formed and of one mind and marching in lock-step behind their “sole legitimate representative”.We now know this is not the case. Can Bush's Mideast Peace Talks Work?, TIME:
The difference now is that the Bush administration, with just 18 months left in office, is in dire need of some policy victories in the Middle East. In particular, it must show its Arab allies, such as Saudi Arabia — whose help Washington needs to stabilize Iraq — that the U.S. is willing to put its weight behind the peace process. But in looking to score points in the Middle East, Bush is likely to be as disappointed as his predecessors.

I see not how the US is "cursing" Israel. Certainly not among my Jewish friends.

Angel said. That is the only path Arabs know - to HELL. It appears that Bush is capitulating with terrorists-not I take that back--HE IS! He has a lot of gall suggesting/telling Israel what to do. Bush is damning our nation with his decision making-which I now question. The Dems are bad-but Bush is worse because he was ad least supposed to know better. Heh!
The Bible says, "I bless those that bless Israel, and curse those that curse Israel."
No wonder our nation is on fire and flooding is abound - how can God bless a nation that curses Israel!
