What happens in Mexico, does not stay in Mexico
In Mexico, "violence in the northern state of Nuevo Leon has erupted once again, starting with the attempted assassination of a police chief in Guadalupe on July 14, followed by the targeted killing on July 15 of a police officer in the wealthy Monterrey suburb of San Nicolas de los Garza." Cease fires are being broken; the cartels and kidnapping rings are working in full force; increased security is, well, "a burden?" (via StratFor)

And all that is coming to towns near your, compliments of the North American Union. Goodbye America, Hello North American Union by Alan Caruba
In a month, August 20 and 21, the leaders of the United States, Canada, and Mexico will sit down together in Montebello, Quebec to discuss making the borders between these three nations disappear. They will discuss progress on a vast highway project passing through America to link Mexico with Canada. So far, no one has asked the citizens of these three nations whether they want to do this. It is not up for a vote in Congress and, indeed, Congress has no supervision over the gnomes in the U.S. Department of Commerce who are busily “harmonizing” the laws under the auspices of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP).
This, we’re told, is not a treaty so Congress has no constitutional oversight obligation. I guess it’s more like a nice big handshake between the presidents and prime minister of these three nations who, let’s face it, just know better than the rest of us. [snip]
Perhaps when Congress begins to raise our taxes, authorize a superhighway, and offer yet another amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, the American people may take notice and want to do something about it. By then, however, it will be too late.
That’s what President Bush is counting on. Meanwhile, he has a big calendar counting down the days to January 20, 2008 when he can start cashing in on having sold out the rest of us. (read it all here)
In case you were wondering why President George W. Bush doesn't want to secure the borders, now you have your answer.

""For as long as you have been reading my stuff (and long before that) I have been railing on about how the Mexican drug wars were bleeding across the US border and affecting places like Nuevo Laredo and other border "sister-cities" to Mexican ones.""
More ultra right wing misinformation.
1. Nuevo Laredo, my home, is in Mexico and much safer than just about any comparable U.S. city you can name. If you don't have your hands in the drug trade, stay the hell outta their business, you'd never know it's happening until you read the newspapers.
2. Repeat after me. "The is no NAFTA Superhighway nor is one being planned"! I-35 already connects Mexico and Canada and has for many years. In addition to I-5. There is also a corridor which has been in the planning stages for 20 years called I-69. Parts are complete, other parts we will not see in our lifetime.
It might be wise to sit and read the charter and mission of the SPP.gov. Nowhere in there does it mention anything about a "North American Union". Talk of a NAU comes from right wing nutcases who really need to get a life.
The SPP is a partnership between three soveriegn nations, all three of whose citizens would rise in rebellion were there even a hint of what you assume.
The SPP is a tri-lateral agreement to share information on terrorism, health and pandemic concerns, work together for land, sea and air transportation security etc. It does not propose erasing borders and making one continent into one nation.
But I guess it makes good reading for the airheads in society who are always looking under rocks for some conspiracy.

Watch your news for Los Zetas and La Gente Nueva. As I've written, one of my spec-ops (ret.) buddies would rather be in Baghdad than in El Paso or anywhere else on the border.
