Doctored Arpaio photo tied to immigrant rights activist (Hat tip Phillip Costa)

A Latino rights activist has been called to question for distributing by email a doctored photo of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Ku Klux Klan garb pulling a noose towards a man in a sombrero and serape.

Elias Bermudez of Immigrants Without Borders said that in hindsight it was “poor taste” to forward the image late Tuesday to several dozen people, including members of the media.

Bermudez has recently been involved in a public war of words with Arpaio, whose deputies are enforcing immigration laws. “I hope he understands that someone is playing a bad joke,” Bermudez said. “But he also needs to know whoever put it together is expressing the feelings of the Hispanic community…We really fear Joe Arpaio.”

The sheriff said he was upset with the photo but not deterred. “There are certain factions that would like me to go away,” Arpaio said. “The more they go after me, the more I'm going to lock up the illegals.” (AZCentral)

Let me say here that photo-manipulations of public figures, friends, relatives, whoever -- is fun and something we here at Right Truth encourage. However, to pass a photo-manipulation off as the real thing is a bit "no-no" no matter who you are. Distributing that photo as real is even worse. Reuters got caught doing this during the Israeli-Hezbollah Summer War last year.

ChicagoRay: I didn't see the photo, so I could not comment first hand on it. If it was that lame, then this was a big to do about nothing. I host photo-manipulation and caption contests all the time here, and encourage good fun humor. We need it.

Debbie, I saw this story and the photoshop slayed me due to it's brutal crudeness not to mention I do these things all day and night and they're for the most part harmless as you said...

I'm really surprised Sheriff Joe even took the time to respond to this childish hack job as if it even comes near to realism that the CAII espanol's as I call them try to purport.

It's a very bad photoshop that speaks to it's obvious non authenticity, and the idiots that tried to play that game that it's real are simply numbskulls and obvious newcomers to the internet battleground.

A big Doh to the CAII imbeciles that are learning the ways of victimhood very well from their brethren Muslims and liberals.
