Almost half of uninsured in America are illegal aliens - UPDATED II
Poverty is down and median income is up, according to just released census figures 2006, Current Population Survey. (pdf) Reporting: Molly Henneberg, Fox News Channel.
2006: number of uninsured in America 47 million people, or 15.8% of the population.2005: number of uninsured in America 44.8 million people, or 15.3% of the population.
Joseph Antos, American Enterprise Institute, looks inside the numbers, because they are very misleading.
uninsured who are NOT U.S. CITIZENS IS 45% of the 47 million.Broken down by age, 18 - 24 years old - 29.3% of the 47 million.
25 - 35 years old - 26.9% of the 47 million.Broken down by salary, $75,000 or more per year - 8.5% of the 47 million.
Did you get that? Almost half of the uninsured in America are not U.S. citizens. Think what a financial break to our hospitals and doctors it would be, if the illegals were not here. Just a thought.
Also if you do the math 45% (illegal aliens) of 47 million is over 20 million illegal aliens inside the United States. Fact. (See updates below)

UPDATE i: OK folks, reader Kenny has rightfully questioned whether Mr. Joseph Antos said "45 % of the 47 million were illegal immigrants" OR whether Mro Antos said " 45% of the 47 million were immigrants". I have deleted the video of the show, so I can go back and watch it again. I have contacted Fox for a transcript and I have also contacted Molley Henneberg and Mr. Antos for clarification.
If I have mislead readers, there will be a retraction posted here. We are all human and we can all make mistakes. Here at Right Truth I try very hard to keep everything accurate. But I will be the first to issue a retraction if I make a mistake. Stay tuned. -- END UPATE I
UPDATE II: I just received the following clarification from Mr. Antos office.
Mr. Antos would like to clarify his remarks. What he actually said was that 45% of the 47 million uninsured are non-citizens; and that it is unclear how many of those are illegal immigrants.
Either I misunderstood the comment and graphic on Fox, or the graphic was incorrect. On Fox the 'unclear as to how many of those are illegal immigrants' was NOT made. Either way, I apologize for the error in reporting. Here at Right Truth I always try to keep everything completely accurate, and when I'm wrong I report that too. Ouch, that hurt. (Hey, there's a first time for everything, heh.)

Okay upon further review I think you are wrong. I'm not happy about it because living in Arizona. . .I know there are more than 12 million in this country.
Here is why you may be wrong. . .it lists 12.6 million foreign people in poverty. Of that 12 million 10 million are "NOT A CITIZEN". Now does that mean illegal? Or does that mean they have visa's and just haven't been naturalized yet? I suspect the latter.
What we need is a total of Foreign born nationals who are holding visa's. BTW. . .unless I read it wrong, I think there are 39 million (not citizens) who answered the census. Just doesn't mean they are illegal.

Kenny, I've got an email in to Mr. Joseph Antos, American Enterprise Institute, and trying to get info from Fox. I can't find a transcript yet.
If he simply said "immigrants" and not illegal immigrants I've made a big mistake. But I don't think so. I wish I still had that recorded, but I dumped it.

I apologize for a second. I just found the survey (via your site duh) and I am looking at a lot of numbers. I need to see if they are in thousands or millions?
I will get back with what i find and what page they are on. I am on a mission if you are right. :)

I'm smiling right now. . .can you back it up? WHERE is that source or fact? Simply saying it was on Fox (wish I had seen it) means you could have heard it wrong. Do you have anything? I looked a long time for his quote. . .couldn't find it.

Kenny, I took this from Mr. Joseph Antos, American Enterprise Institute, who was a guest on Fox News.

I was hoping someone would pick up on that. Those are 20 plus million illegals that ADMITTED to being illegal on the census survey. I wonder how many lied???

Your stats are incorrect and I got nailed because of them. Did you do any research on this or just make it up? The correct quote (notice IMMIGRANTS vs Illegal Immigrants) there is a difference.
”Non-citizen immigrants were much more likely to be uninsured (45 percent uninsured) than native-born citizens (13 percent). The percentage of both native-born citizens and non-citizen immigrants who are uninsured increased in 2006.”

Did Greg just state that only 12 million illegal aliens live here? He wasn't serious, was he? Did he say 12 million because the NYT, MSNBC, and LA Times told him to say that? Because it would appear to me that the Left will swallow anything the MSM shoves down their throats.

"Keeping you coming back is how doctors maintain their 6-figure income"
I studied a long time to become an MD, so I don't have any problem enjoying my 6 figure income, not that what I make or don't make is Rockyspoon's or anyone else's business. I'm thinking that Rockyspoon is probably a not so well to do Democrat a little envious of someone making more money than he. He probably wants me to pay more income tax too.
Having said that, I agree with him that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH. Another thing: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR YOUR OWN HEALTHCARE. Whether by paying for a high priced insurance policy or by the sweat of your brow, it is YOUR responsibility, not your neighbor's responsibility, not the taxpayer's responsibility.
By the way, next time you have a heart attack or are bleeding out the wazoo, instead of going to your doctor or rushing to the ER, go see your favorite politician.

Here's a revolutionary, almost dissident idea: Health insurance doesn't make you healthy. No, it simply greases the skids so you go to the doctor regularly. Doctors are trained in two things: Pharmacology and Critical Care. So if you're deathly ill from the cumulative effects of an abusive lifestyle, they can keep you from dying (the Critical Care part). Or if you've got health problems they give you drugs that will handle the symptoms, but in almost all cases not eliminate the cause (the Pharmacology aspect). Besides, doctors have a vested interest in your being sick--with most drugs you need another visit to the doctor (and $90) to determine how toxic the drugs you're taking have become to your body (since all drugs, BY DEFINITION, are low level toxins which the body has difficulty tolerating since they're synthetic chemical substances that only mimic natural substances which are beneficial). Keeping you coming back is how doctors maintain their 6-figure income. So do us all a favor and help roll back the incestuous relationship between doctors, the pharmaceutical industry, and insurance companies. As an individual, take responsibility for your own health, which you won't improve by going to your doctor. Forcing everybody to have health insurance, which essentially forces everybody to be more drug dependent, isn't going to help you get healthy. Wake up and realize what's happening. It will help you have a healthier, longer life.

Did I miss something? You say '45% of the 47 million uninsured are illegals'.
The highest estimate of illegals in this country I've heard is 12 million. Your figure comes out to be 21 million illegals.

Ortho: Great cartoon, thanks for sharing. It doesn't work that way in real life. Physicians and hospitals MUST treat people, no matter what. Of course there is no question when it's a TRUE emergency. But with lawsuits so rampant these days, they have to cover their butts.
Angel, Trinity, Roger: Thanks. Spread the word, people need to know.

Thanks for that important post, Deb. Those numbers are devastating. And the conclusions are unshakable.
Where's Geraldo when you need him? How in the hell is he going to spin THOSE figures? I don't know how it would even be possible -- but I'm sure he'll figure out a way to do it.
I'm going to write those numbers on the back of my hand in indelible ink.
Great work, Deb.

Did you catch the New Yorker cartoon, "Jimmy and Jane play doctor"?
Jimmy says, "What sort of insurance do you have?" Jane replies, "Actually, I don't have any." Jimmy pithily finishes the conversation, "Goodbye, then."

The dirty little secret revealed. Bravo Debbie. We, the hard working American taxpayer, getting stiffed with illegal health care. I fear it will only get worse.
However, the dinosaur media can not hide the facts anylonger, the new media is here and will not allow it. Great job.

and who do you think foots their bills...we do Deb!...grrrr!

Machiavelligz: Thanks. I was amazed at those figures.
Posted by: Debbie | August 28, 2007 at 09:31 PM
great catch.
Want to cut health care costs, guard the border. Want to cut health care costs, send the illegals back home.
And to the argument that they can't be sent home...the border works both ways.
