Lives in the balance, thanks to the Church of Global Warming

Shuttle Lives hang in the balance thanks to members of the Church of Global Warming and Pope Al Gore.

The screaming left is always going on about the lives that will be lost from the global warming boogeyman, yet I can’t find a single newspaper willing to confront the seven lives that may be lost on Wednesday because of it. You may recall how Clinton/Gore EPA regulations forced NASA to switch to a freon-free foam, one that doesn’t stick to the tanks, one that causes up to 11 times more damage to the life-saving thermal tiles, all in an effort to make the libs feel better about flying their personal jets across the globe. Ever since then we’ve had scare after tragedy every time a Shuttle launches.

A cursory look at Google News shows that the brave and enterprising journalists from American news organizations are completely unwilling to even mention this important story. It makes me wonder what Adolph Ochs, the publisher of the New York Times who created the journalistic oath to cover the news “without fear or favor”, would think of the state of journalism today. Show me the journalist with the courage to look the families of these astronauts in the face and tell them the science has already been decided.

In the comments section I found this:

Propaganda Defined As:  ... information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

  1. The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause.

Wait a minute......I forget....did I look up the Definition of Journalism  ?

Well, well. It looks like a famous NASA scientist activist is on the hot seat after revelations that his data surrounding claims that 1998 was the hottest year on record is bogus.

This is important for four reasons:

The scientist at NASA who was responsible for the data is James Hansen. He was catapulted to rock star status by Global Warming activists when he stated very publicly that the Bush administration was trying to silence his research. Hansen is not just any researcher however, he is the head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.  [snip]

Stating that 1998 was the hottest year on record is a major factor surrounding the claim that Global Warming is a man made phenomenon. Scientists Activists use data such as Hansen’s to show a correlation between record temperatures, the years in which they occurred and increases in carbon emissions to make the man made conclusions.

Yes folks, it has become the Church of Global Warming, and if you are not a full-fledged believer then you are the devil's spawn, to be shunned and ridiculed.  And if people die in the process of building the church, apparently "so be it".

I case you never noticed, the shuttle External Tank used to be painted, but not any more, this was eliminated to save weight.  Some have questioned if the shuttle "was painted like it was designed to be, perhaps the paint would've bonded the foam together better" and we would not have the chipping away of the tiles caused by flying foam  that continues to be a problem for astronauts.

To determine whether a coat of paint might prevent foam from shedding requires a better understanding of what causes the foam to fall off in the first place.  Most people probably assume that the foam separates from the tank because the flow of air rushing past rips it away.  This type of separation is called an adhesive failure because the foam does not properly stick to the bare aluminum surface of the tank.  However, NASA research has found that very little, if any, of the foam comes off because of adhesive issues.

The problem is instead caused by a cohesive failure.  In other words, the foam itself does not stay together.  This cohesive failure is caused by voids created inside the foam as it is sprayed onto the tank.  These voids create pockets of air trapped within the foam.  Since the voids are formed at sea level, the air inside them is at sea level pressure.  As the Shuttle climbs into orbit, the external atmospheric pressure continually decreases.  This difference causes the relatively high pressure air trapped inside the foam to expand outward ripping off chunks of foam in the process.  Further worsening the problem is the heat generated by friction between the thermal insulation of the tank and the air rushing past it as the Shuttle accelerates to high speeds.  This effect heats up the air pockets within the foam raising the pressure and further encouraging the voids to rupture.  This phenomenon is often referred to as "pop-corning."  (AreospaceWeb.org)

For more questions about the shuttle you can visit AerospaceWeb.org.  On the Church of Global Warming, I'm wondering how many other businesses, pieces of machinery, and lives will be adversely affected by those trying to be faithful members or the 'church' and it's illustrious leader, Al Gore?

Debbie, you sound less than happy about this subject. There's nothing like a good rant, I always say, and I back those words up often. :-)

Global warming is a fact, regardless of its cause. It's right on time, too. The Earth cycles through a warming period like this every 110,000 years or so right before going into another 100,000 year-long ice age. Then it warms up for maybe 10,000 years, suddenly gets a lot warmer, then gets cold again. This is part of a natural cycle. Ces't la vie.

If humanity is contributing to the process, that would be no surprise, but I've yet to see proof of it. It's possible that we may even be slowing it down, who knows?

The officiousness of those in authority who feel a deep yearning to justify their various and usually dissenting theories regardless of how severely they impact the rest of us is more of a study in egomania than scientific acumen.

In other words, I agree. Gore is a legend in his own mind.
