Karen Huges is gone, good riddance

“Gaffe Machine” Karen Hughes Leaving State Department, says John E. Carey of Peace and Freedom II. I agree.

An American gaffe machine gets set to go home. Good riddance. No amount of costuming on this Halloween can convince us that Mrs. Hughes made a valuable contribution to U.S. foreign policy.

We are not big fans of the U.S. State Department these days so the announcement that Karen Hughes will leave and return to Texas didn’t break any hearts here.

Mrs. Hughes was give her cushy Foggy Bottom job by her pal George W. Bush. When she came to State — amid much publicity and hoopla — the world was informed that Mrs. Hughes would take charge of “winning over the world’s hearts and minds.”

Mrs. Hughes was supposed to restore respect for America and highlight the importance of America’s lustrous democracy.

Mrs. Hughes didn’t exactly impress anyone in the world outside of her buddy at the White House.

Officially, Mrs. Hughes is Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.

On her fist major trip as America’s “Goodwill Ambassador,” Mrs. Hughes proved that she was a gaffe machine with little knowledge of the Arab world.

John Brown wrote in The Second Coming of Karen Hughes on August 9, 2007 in the Huffington Post: “her infamous ‘listening tour’ to the Middle East in the fall of 2005 — was ridiculed by both the US and international media as an illustration of her ignorance (she disclosed, to an Egyptian opposition leader, that our Constitution cites “one nation under God”) and lack of cultural sensitivity (she offended some Saudi women by reproaching them for not having the right to drive). After that disastrous overseas venture, she seemed to keep a lower profile, and by 2006 was practically off the media radar screen, especially during the Second Lebanese War. When she did engage in rare (for her official position) public events (many directed to American audiences to show them how good we US citizens were because of our compassionate-conservative aid to less fortunate foreigners) she was not infrequently criticized, including by the right-wing media, which accused her of being too accommodating to Muslim organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).”

Today, the Fox News Channel is extolling Mrs. Hughes’ many accomplishments and achievements. They even allowed Mrs. Hughes to go on screen to brag about, well, herself.

Karen

Charm machine turned into a gaffe machine right in front of the world.

But polls show no improvement in the world’s view of the U.S. since Hughes took over. A Pew Research Center survey earlier said the unpopular Iraq war is a persistent drag on the U.S. image and has helped push favorable opinion of the United States in Muslim Indonesia, for instance, from 75 percent in 2000 to 30 percent last year.

“The great irony of this administration is that its opponents credit it with being masterful at spin,” wrote Mr. Jim Hoagland of the Washington Post on September 3, 2006. (continue reading)

Invisible Tanks

Army tests James Bond style tank that is 'invisible', from The Daily Mail:

New technology that can make tanks invisible has been unveiled by the Ministry of Defence.

In secret trials last week, the Army said it had made a vehicle completely disappear and predicted that an invisible tank would be ready for service by 2012.

The new technology uses cameras and projectors to beam images of the surrounding landscape onto a tank.

Disappeartankll_468x182

Now you see it: How the tank might look with background images beamed onto the side

The result is that anyone looking in the direction of the vehicle only sees what is beyond it and not the tank itself.

A soldier, who was at the trials, said: "This technology is incredible. If I hadn't been present I wouldn't have believed it. I looked across the fields and just saw grass and trees - but in reality I was staring down the barrel of a tank gun." (more)

"Hillary's Going to Wellesley Tommorrow. Where Does She Stand on the Veiling of Muslim Students at Wellesley?", by Phyllis Chesler

On May 31st, 1969, Hillary Rodham delivered the Commencement address at Wellesley. I have just read her speech and in my view, it says very little about a great deal. You just can’t pin her down—not then, not now. She tries to include everyone, offend no one, and she does so in an even-tempered, non-passionate way. She says:

“Part of the problem with empathy with professed goals is that empathy doesn’t do us anything. We’ve had lots of empathy; we’ve had lots of sympathy, but we feel that for too long our leaders have used politics as the art of making what appears to be impossible, possible.”

And she closes by quoting a long (and rather harmless) poem written by Nancy Scheibner, which ends this way:

“Earth could be fair. And you and I must be free
Not to save the world in a glorious crusade
Not to kill ourselves with a nameless gnawing pain
But to practice with all the skill of our being
The art of making possible.”

Thus, it is possible that Hillary is not being micro-managed by a team of hired hands and focus groups so much as she has hired a team to reflect her own character and political strategy.

She is a Nice Girl. (Yes, I know, she has done some awful things in order to “stand by her man” and hang onto power but this is precisely what Nice Girls are supposed to do).

By definition, being a Nice Girl means trying to, or at least appearing to try to please everyone and offend no one; but above all, it means keeping your true opinions hidden. All direct expressions of one’s own point of view or of one’s own naked, raw, ambition or passion must be repressed, hidden. Sometimes even from oneself.

But folks: This is 1969 that we’re talking about. Our country spent this decade marching for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam. President John F. Kennedy, Civil rights leaders Martin Luther King and Malcolm X had all been assasinated. Feminism had been on the move since the mid-60s as well. Max Yasgur’s farm in Woodstock, New York was about to receive 450,000 young people who wanted to revel in “sex, drugs, and rock and roll.” (continue reading)

Word of the day -- Slaves

Going through my email in-box this morning, I have numerous tips on slavery as it relates to Western nations. We toss the word around -- slaves to fashion, slaves to the boob-tube, etc. But someone who is really treated as a slave, especially a helpless child, knows the true meaning of the word.

Slave: 1. a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another; a bond servant.
2.a person entirely under the domination of some influence or person

From The Blotter, "New Wave of Video Beheadings Aimed at 'American Slaves'"

Slavesofamerica New propaganda videos show al Qaeda-connected terrorists carrying out the beheadings of captured Pakistani soldiers, labeled "slaves to America."

One edited video, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com, shows several teenage boys carrying out the decapitation of a Pakistani soldier with crude knives and then holding the severed, bleeding head with its military beret still in place.

In a brief speech to the camera before the execution, the speaker says the soldier must die because he is a "slave to America."

Free Independent Counterterrorist Training at Right Truth

I'm a big believer in personal responsibility. When it comes to protecting yourself, your family, who can you depend on? Who is the real first responder when the bad guy shows up at YOUR door? It's YOU. " It's a whole new world of personal survival." As our country moves forward after September 11, 2001, and as we make concessions by continuing to have open borders, special privileges for Muslims above all others, it becomes even more important for each of us to know how to protect ourselves.

I know that some of you will cry fowl at the idea of Independent Counterterrorist Training. I say to you, better safe than sorry -- better prepared for the wolf at the door than to be a lamb for the slaughter. This service is being provided for you FREE OF CHARGE at Right Truth blog, but is written and supplied by R. J. Godlewski.

Survival is a black and white issue

Ictpromocover There are those out there who wish to destroy us. They do not care about our beliefs, our communities, or our children. Their goal is simply to murder us en masse through cowardly and despicable methods. Their supporters are legion and infest the public, the global media, and the United Nations like insects in desperate need of extermination.

Still, there are many others who don t hide shamefully behind the body armor of innocent women and children. Who stand proud in defense of democracy and freedom. Who hold that all people are created equal in the
eyes of God. It is we who shall win; who shall prevail over the radical Islamists who seek to pervert international justice and destroy the peace and tranquility of the world s honorable peoples.

Your study guide will be the
Manuel of the Independent Counterterrorist
(pdf) Each month a new "unit" of the study will be provided to anyone who is interested. All you have to do is click the link and go read the material. There will be questions and suggestions for further reading at the end. Also links to writings of the terrorists themselves will be provided, as well as any other links that may prove helpful to readers.

In the introduction to Milestones, by Syed Qutb Shaheed, he says "Even the Western world realizes that Western Civilization is unable to present any healthy values for the guidance of mankind." This is what the bad guys think, but they are so wrong. Americans are guided by their belief in God who values of every human being; freedom of speech, thought, and deed as long as it doesn't harm another. We respect women and children. We support freedom of religion, but do not force religion on anyone. We want peace around the world among all people.

BUT --- if threatened, we will defend ourselves. This Independent Counterrorist Training will help us be prepared to do just that here at home.

Unit One is "KNOW THY ENEMY." Begin your study here

To facilitate the incorporation of the civilian population into the war effort against international terrorists, the International Nuclear Emergency Response Team (INERT), R.J. Godlewski, Right Truth Blog, and affiliated parties are developing a volunteer training program to educate interested individuals in the fields of counterinsurgency, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and counter-guerrilla warfare operations.

Each monthly module will consist of a brief narrative by R.J. Godlewski, appropriate federal military/civilian training manual/reports to review, and review questions to stimulate debate. There are no fees associated with these programs and no grades/certificates will be issued. This is strictly a volunteer program for educational purposes. (continue reading)

Unit Two will be "Conditioning yourself mentally and physically."

Please let me know what you think about this program.

The lead article today in ArtsandLettersDaily is taken from the Chronicle of Higher Education. The article, written by Evan R. Goldstein, is tltled “Waltheimer on the Hot Seat,” and presents Stephen M. Walt and Charles Mearsheimer as martyrs of truth, lone critics, and near-pariahs for having dared write about the allegedly enormous influence of the Israel Lobby.

The professors have received a truly outsize advance, their book has appeared on various bestseller lists, they draw huge bookstore crowds all over America, and they are booked to speak in Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, and at the London School of Economics, the University of London, and the House of Lords. They have had to endure praise from David Duke, mugs and tee-shirts in their honor, and enormous critical attention, some positive and some negative. However, Professor Tony Judt, (who himself has valorously gone on record giving up his “right of return” to the Jewish state), is quoted here as saying that Mearsheimer “looked a bit shell shocked.”

Judt explains: “In this country, 60 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, it’s still very painful for someone who is not Jewish to be accused again and again of being anti-Semitic.”

Poor, misunderstood babies.

The Hawks and The Doves

International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Iran is still "at least a few years away'' from being able to build a nuclear bomb, and "there is still time for sanctions to work." Senator John McCain of Arizona "singled out Europe for criticism, saying "Major European financial institutions are giving lines of credit to the Iranians.'' The Hawks and Doves can't agree on what needs to be done to stop Iran, so Iran continues on their path. America and Israel are left to act independently.

And fearless are the idiots -- Among the hawks and doves

American sanctions are having an impact on Iran financially, but is it enough? The Bush administration seems to be firm that Iran will not be allowed to have nuclear weapons, that we will act to prevent that from happening. Israel has proven that they will also step up when a nuclear threat faces them -- example, Syria.

The debate has come to "will we STOP Iran, or will we debate what to do AFTER Iran goes nuclear and actually ACTS on their promised intentions."

Here in Washington D.C., debate about Iran is dominant. Unlike the debate that preceded the invasion of Iraq, this one features a much greater emphasis on what happens after striking as many as 20 Iranian nuclear sites. Ergo, lessons have been learned.

The hawkish argument is pretty simple: If you delay Iran's production of an indigenous weapon for decades, you will not only protect Israel from a future horror, but you will also send a categorical message to other proliferators that there will be consequences for defying the United States. It is an argument about the future.

The dovish argument is about the day after. It is an argument over what happens immediately, and how catastrophic the consequences will be in the months after a unilateral aerial assault. With the Iranian street aflame, will Iran send its conventional forces across the Iraq border to engage the U.S. forces in formal warfare, even as they are fully engaged in fighting the insurgency? Will Iraq succeed in disrupting tanker traffic through the Straits of Hormuz, pushing world oil prices to $150 a barrel? Will Iran endeavor to engage Israel directly rather than through its surrogate Hezbollah? (NorthStarWriters)

The dovish argument is unacceptable to me. How much is that nuclear bomb in the window?, Survive A Nuke Attack -- Thinking About the Unthinkable: How to Survive a Nuclear Bomb:

I scratch my head over the mainstream press when they debate whether Iran will get the bomb in two years or five years or 10 years. They’ve missed the big story: Nuclear bombs are available on the black market today!

The former Russian Security Council secretary, Alexander Lebed, said in an interview on 60 Minutes on September 9, 1997, that more than 100 suitcase nukes are missing from the breakup of the Soviet Union. [snip]

“The danger posed by unsecured nuclear material is not just a Russian problem. Enough civilian plutonium for many nuclear weapons exists in Germany, Belgium, Japan, and Switzerland, and some 20 tons of civilian highly enriched uranium exists at 345 operational and shut down civilian research facilities in 58 countries, sometimes in quantities large enough to make a bomb.” (more)

Looking at what is going on around the world is not enough, we must look at what is happening in our own country. Decisions we make daily can, and are, making us less safe, less secure, in my humble opinion. "Islam In The Heartland", Ari Kaufman, via Pat Dollard

It then may come as little surprise then, that the city of Plainfield, just west of Indianapolis, is home to the Islamic Center of North America, which, according to their mission, “has served the Muslims of this continent for well over forty years.”

The entire continent. And it’s based in “The Heartland.” As is Dearborn.

What’s next? Accommodating Islam—-and Islam only—-at the local airport? [snip]

The ICLU is nowhere to be found on the religious aspect of the airport sinks matter. Last seen, they and their legal director, Ken Falk, were assisting The American Atheists in removing any semblance of religion from small towns in Indiana and suing the state over the “In God We Trust” license plates issued by the Indiana BMV earlier this year. These innocuous matters apparently make the litigation agenda, not sectarian sinks in a major airport.

Preventive action is a must. Being prepared for the unthinkable is equally important. However, if we PREVENT the action from happening, we won't have to worry about the UNTHINKABLE.

Egypt going nuclear with U.S. support

In September 2006, Egypt announced their plans to build three nuclear power plants by 2020, the first to be operational within 10 years. As I stated here, 'According to contested reports, Egypt has been in negotiations with Russia since April 2005 over a contract to build the El-Dabaa plant.' In 2006 we were not sure what Washington's view of this development would be. Today "The United States said it would offer its co-operation in the project."

Egypt unveils nuclear plants plan President Hosni Mubarak has said Egypt is to build a number of nuclear power stations to generate electricity.

Mr Mubarak said he had decided to go ahead with the programme because energy security was such an important factor in Egypt's development.

Egyptian officials announced plans last year to revive civilian nuclear activities but at the time they spoke of building a single power station.

The United States said it would offer its co-operation in the project.

US officials insisted there were no comparison between peaceful use of nuclear technology by Egypt and Iran's controversial nuclear programme.

US officials insisted there were no comparison between peaceful use of nuclear technology by Egypt and Iran's controversial nuclear programme. (BBC)

According to the IAEA, "Half of the 30 nuclear reactors being built are in developing countries."

IAEA Director Mohamed ElBaradei said there are currently 439 nuclear power reactors in 30 countries, which supply 15 per cent of the world's electricity. He said there has been a "sharp rise" of demand for civilian nuclear power energy by developing countries, ending the monopoly by industrialised countries over nuclear energy. [snip]

The IAEA is studying requests by 77 countries which are exploring nuclear energy as a potential option, he said. They include Algeria, Belarus, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Nigeria, Thailand, Vietnam and Yemen.

Countries that already have nuclear reactors want to add new ones, including Argentina, Bulgaria, China, Finland, France, India, Japan, South Korea, Pakistan, South Africa, Russia, the United States. (Bangkok Post)

That's a lot of nuclear activity.

Saudi King claims UK terror attacks could have been prevented

Abdullah
It's easy to make a claim like this, but does he back it up? Saudi King Abdullah says "Saudi officials passed intelligence about the attacks to the U.K. before they happened" that could have prevented the attacks.

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, arriving in London today for talks with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said British officials failed to act on information that could have prevented the attacks on London in July 2005.

Abdullah, in an interview with the BBC at his palace in Jeddah, said Saudi officials passed intelligence about the attacks to the U.K. before they happened. He didn't give details.

``Most countries are not taking this issue too seriously, including, unfortunately, Great Britain,'' Abdullah said in an interview broadcast on BBC Radio 4. ``We have sent information to Great Britain before the terrorist attack, but unfortunately no action was taken. It may have been able to avert the tragedy.''

At least 56 people were killed when four separate explosions ripped through London subway trains and a bus during the morning rush hour on July 7, 2005. British officials have said since then that they had no advance warning. (Bloomberg)

The Amboy Times calls it "Taqiyya, plain and simple." More from The Amboy Times:

I'm surprised King Abdullah has time to rat out anyone with all the terrorism he's exporting. It's time for the West to wake and smell the jihad.

"There is so much more stuff about Saudi government involvement, it would blow people's minds."

Sen. Bob Graham of Florida, a Democratic presidential candidate who co-chaired the congressional inquiry, is blunt in describing a role by at least some parts of the Saudi government. Without referring to the Saudis by name, he told U.S. News: "The reality is that the foreign government was much more directly involved in not only the financing but the provision of support--transportation, housing, and introduction to a network which gave support to the terrorists." He says "scores" of contacts occurred between 9/11 hijackers and operatives of "foreign" officials. "They were not rogue agents," he says, but "were being directed by persons of significant responsibility within the government."

Some of us wouldn't be so surprised.

Common Sense and Wonder has two words, "Unmitigated gall." That sums it up perfectly. King Abdullah says "Britain is not doing enough to fight terrorism", that "Britain failed to act" to prevent the attacks, AND:

BBC world affairs correspondent John Simpson says King Abdullah is annoyed that the rest of the world has largely failed to act on his proposal for a UN clearing house for information about terrorism. (BBC)

The United Nations? Again Common Sense Wonder sees the situation clearly:

Somehow I think he knows that the UN would just transfer any information it gets directly to the terrorists.

Joshua Pundit says, "Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah takes the prize for unmitigated gall this week."

(Of course, that time period [20 -30 years] could be cut significantly if the Saudis stopped funding it, as well as the wahabi ideology that promotes it. Just a thought.) (more)

It proves King Abdullah has a sense of humor. Surely he meant this interview as "satire".

Lying about the 44 blocks - blogburst

Lying about the 44 blocks

When Tom Burnett Sr. came out against the Flight 93 Memorial, the press asked architect Paul Murdoch if there were really going to be 44 inscribed translucent blocks emplaced along the flight path (equaling the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists). Murdoch acknowledged 43 of the blocks, but denied knowing about a 44th:

[T]here are 40 inscribed marble panels listing the names of the passengers and crew at the gateway to the Sacred Ground, where their remains still rest.

There is then an opening in the wall, Mr. Murdoch said, and three additional panels, which would include the date, Sept. 11, 2001.

"Where the other one is being fabricated, I don't know," he said.

Yes he does. Paul Murdoch is fully aware of the large dedicatory glass block at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway:

44th glass block, at end of Entry Portal Walkway

Man and child stand in front of the 44th block, which forms the railing at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway. The glass block will be inscribed: "A field of honor forever." This Walkway provides visitors with their first view of the inside of the giant crescent. (From the Entry Portal page of the original design PDFs. Click pic for wider view.)

The flight path

The Entry Portal Walkway is built along the flight path. It signifies, in Paul Murdoch's own description, the terrorists breaking the circle and turning it into a giant crescent. The flight path then continues down to the crash site, which sits in the middle of the mouth of the giant crescent (in roughly the position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag).

Just before the impact point is the Memorial Wall, also built along the flight path. This two part wall is where the other 43 blocks will be placed (the ones described by Paul Murdoch above):

Memorial Wall with 43 glass blocks emplaced

The forty translucent blocks that run horizontally through the left hand section of wall (closest to the impact crater) will be inscribed with the names of the forty murdered heroes. The three on the right will be inscribed with the 9/11 date. (From the Sacred Ground Plaza page of the original design PDF's. Click pic for larger image. The alternating white and gray depicts the zig zag layout of the translucent blocks.)

Challenged by the father of one of our murdered heroes, Murdoch told a desperate lie, feigning ignorance of one of the most prominent features of his own design: the huge glass block that dedicates the entire site. This should have been the end of his hijack attempt, but Murdoch's deception was abetted by both the Memorial Project and the press.

The abettors

"That has been disproved so many times," said Bill Hayworth, the Memorial Project's PR flack, when asked about the 44 blocks. Would it have been too much for reporters to ask for this proof?

In fact Murdoch is the first one to ever even deny that there are 44 glass blocks on the flight path. The only earlier Memorial Project statement about the 44 blocks was from Project Manager Jeff Reinbold, who told Alec Rawls in an April 2006 conference call that the giant glass block can't be counted with the small glass blocks because it is bigger: "If we are going to count the big glass block with the small glass blocks," he said, "then we have to count the windows in the visitor center too." (Crescent of Betrayal, download 3, p. 146.)

"The windows in the visitor center are not on the flight path," Rawls replied. He never said they were all the same size, and he never said there are no other panes of glass in the Memorial. Reinbold's silly dodges do not contradict Rawls' 44 glass blocks claim in any way.

The press was also in on the deception. Kecia Bal, the reporter who quoted Hayworth's dismissal of the 44 blocks claim had already verified the block count for herself. Mr. Rawls had earlier sent her close ups of all 44. She responded with a request for copies of the original design PDFs, so she could check the veracity of these close-ups for herself.

When Bal quoted Hayworth, she knew he was wrong, and allowed him to mislead the public by suppressing her own fact checking of the 44 blocks. People can think that the 44 blocks are innocuous if they want, but lying about the block count certainly is not innocuous. Similarly for many the other lies that are being told in defense of the crescent design.

Memorial Project members insist that it is just coincidence that a person facing directly into the giant crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca, but that isn’t what they are telling the public. They are telling the newspapers that the Mecca-orientation claim is false, while acknowledging amongst themselves that the Mecca orientation is real.

Again and again Murdoch, the Memorial Project and the press are lying in concert to cover up the facts of the design. Some people will be unsure what to make of the many suspicious features of the crescent design but no one should doubt the need to expose and condemn those who lie about the facts.

So what can we do? Write, phone or fax the memorial project.

Be respectful, use your own words, but clearly send the message that you agree with Tom Burnett, Sr., that they should respect his wishes that his son's name should be kept off the memorial, and that a more appropriate memorial should be constructed on the crash site; one that doesn't memorialize the terrorists because in Flight 93 National Memorial Act, Pub. L. Support Bill To End Most Illegal Immigration

From Numbers USA:

SUPPORT BILL TO END MOST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC) is expected to soon introduce a bill that would go a long way toward reducing illegal immigration by keeping nearly all illegal aliens from getting and keeping U.S. jobs – really!

NumbersUSA believes this bill, with its bi-partisan support but originating on the Democratic side of the House, is just the vehicle to give us a chance to actually pass immigration legislation through a Democratic-controlled Congress.

Send this fax today to your U.S. Representative asking him/her to co-sponsor the SAVE Act to reduce illegal immigration.

ROY BECK , NumbersUSA President

DEAR REP. ____________________:

Please cosponsor Rep. Shuler’s bill for Comprehensive Enforcement Against Illegal Immigration – the SAVE Act.

The SAVE Act would go a long way toward protecting our borders and helping with interior enforcement. Most importantly, it would eventually require every employee in America to be run through the E-Verify electronic employment eligibility verification system.

By giving businesses a tool like this they can rely on, and assuring them that their competitors won't get by with hiring illegal aliens, very few illegal aliens will be hired. This would remove one of the biggest magnets for illegal immigration – jobs.

There aren't enough odd-jobs and off-the-books jobs in the underground economy to soak up the estimated 7 million illegal workers in the country. Most illegal aliens will no longer find enough work to support them and their dependents, and most of them will eventually give up their lives of illegality and return home. This is Attrition Through Enforcement at work.

If you want to show that you truly oppose illegal immigration and want to protect American workers, I encourage you to contact Rep. Shuler’s office and cosponsor the SAVE Act as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Freedom? Justice? Fairness? America?

If your gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, trans-gender, trans-sexual, (member of NAMBLA?), whatever ... you have rights in this country, you are protected, you shouldn't be fired, or offended, or ... However, if you are Christian, that's an entirely different matter. Or is it? (hat tip Wild Phil) "ENDA, Obama and the cultural war", by Star Parker:

The House Democratic leadership delayed a planned vote this past week on ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007. The bill, introduced by gay Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, makes employment discrimination against homosexuals and bisexuals illegal.

One reason that momentum on moving the legislation has stalled is because lesbian Rep. Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin wants a provision covering transsexuals and transgenders, originally in, then removed, put back in.

President Bush has indicated that, if passed, he will veto this legislation. And he should.

There are a good number of reasons offered by the administration, and by others, why this bill is constitutionally problematic.

But beyond the bill's many technical constitutional difficulties, it's worth considering it in the context of the ongoing cultural war taking place in this country.

Those pushing ENDA would have us believe that this is about making our country more just, fairer, more free. But is this really what is going on?

Consider the uproar of recent days among Sen. Barack Obama's gay constituency about his hiring of gospel singer Donny McClurkin to perform in Obama's campaign tour through South Carolina. [snip]

The problem is that McClurkin not only preaches the gospel of the straight and traditional life, but he himself was once part of the gay lifestyle. He says that he was sexually abused as a child, which set him on the trajectory of homosexual behavior.

Now wait a second. Let's recap where we are.

We've got legislation moving through Congress, pushed by gay activists, that would make it illegal for an employer to not hire, or to fire, someone because of their sexual orientation. But the head of the nation's largest gay-activist organization asks Obama to fire a man because he is a Christian and an advocate of traditional values?

Heralds of the Second Secular Coming: AKA as Fools at the Midnight Hour

Heralds of the Second Secular Coming: AKA as Fools at the Midnight Hour, Phyllis Chesler

Despite the best laid plans of the Revolutionary Communist Party, we blessed three (Ibn Warraq, Christina Hoff-Sommers, and myself) quietly triumphed at Columbia during Islamo-fascism week. But you’d never know it if you read The Nation’s online coverage. Esther Kaplan, author of “With God on their Side: George Bush and the Christian Right, ” led with her bias showing.

In her article, Kaplan spends ten paragraphs demonizing David Horowitz and then dismisses us as fellow travelers in only a mere two paragraphs. I am not complaining. If she had written about us at greater length, she would only have misquoted us or taken our words out of context even more.

For example, she sidesteps my points about the Islamist persecution of homosexuals and only notes that I “sounded an alarm against an epidemic of homosexual pederasty in the Muslim world”—and then likens me to Gary Bauer in his denunciation of gay marriage. Kaplan utterly fails to describe the “violent oppression of women under Islam” (which is also the title of a pamphlet I co-authored for David Horowitz) and fails to mention the heroic feminist struggles in the Muslim world which both Christina Hoff-Sommers and myself discussed.

Kaplan reduces the learned and brilliant Ibn Warraq to just one sentence—yes, the same Ibn Warraq who recently defeated Tariq Ramadan in a battle of ideas in London. I highly recommend Ibn Warraq’s new book, “Defending the West. A Critique of Edward Said’s Orientalism.”

Kaplan and the Nation share a similar point of view. Israel and George Bush’s America (not the Palestinians, the Arab League, or al-Qaeda) are the satanic “provokers.” And, shades of Walt and Mearsheimer: AIPAC and Campus Watch are the primary bearers of “hate” and they brandish academic “hit lists.” Edward Said and the politically correct Stalinists are heralds of the Second Secular Coming and can do no wrong.

Luckily, other reporters were also present. For example, Fern Sidman, who has interviewed me in the Jewish media, described us as “three voices of truth” in the article she published online in the Intellectual Conservative. When President Amadinejad spoke at Columbia, Sidman also interviewed Mary Lou McKinley-Greenberg, the activist who prepared the Questions to be posed to me for the Revolutionary Communist Party. Sidman writes:

“I met Mary Lou Greenberg about a month ago at Columbia University when she was there on the day that Iranian President Ahmadinejad spoke. Her group, the Revolutionary Communist Party was there with a huge banner reading, ‘Ahmadinejad is Bad but Bush is Worse.’ Her group was decrying a possible US invasion of Iran. As a journalist covering the event, I conducted an interview with her. She told me that in a communist society everyone would have the right to voice dissent. I asked her about gays in Cuba, (the only Communist country left in the western hemisphere,) and whether they had a right to voice their dissent, to speak out and identify as gays and she equivocated her way through a feckless attempt to answer the question. “

Dear Reader: Please note that I am publishing my remarks here and not in the pages of Nation magazine. I have learned that “the left” will only demonize their opponents and valorize fascists; and that the “Jewish left” will not, even at the midnight hour, talk or listen to anyone who has already been demonized by the larger “left.” (The Jewish left has, indeed, finally begun to talk about anti-Semitism on the left but they do so only in whispers, in small groups, and only with each other. Their comrades do not support them).

So: the West’s Queer Nation will not stand up for homosexuals who are persecuted by Islam and the Marxist and Secular Feminist Nation will not stand up for women who are persecuted by Islam either. What was it that Pastor Neimoller said about the Nazis who came for the trade unionists?

Hate Crimes vs. Thought Crimes

When I heard about H.R. 1955, I thought it was about hate crimes. I was wrong. It's about thought crimes. The latest anti-terrorism bill - presented by a Democrat, is H.R. 1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. I have always been against hate crimes laws and from what I'm reading so far, I think I am against H.R. 1955, which some are calling a "thought crimes" bill. But is it really about thought crimes?

Presently this bill does not create any new laws. What it does do is create a commission to do a study:

... Nowhere in there does it establish any criminal penalties or say that anything that falls within the definitions violate any criminal code of the US. What it does do is establish a commission to study things that the "commission" decides falls within those definitions and report back to congress those findings every 6 months with a final report due in 18 months. This bill does not "in essence" create thought crimes, but it does set up a commission to study them. It is not "the legislation" to implement them ... (more at Free Market News Network)

The bill is supposed to be about "preventing violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in the United States [and] is critical to combating domestic terrorism."

(b) Purpose- The purposes of the Commission are the following:

(1) Examine and report upon the facts and causes of violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in the United States, including United States connections to non-United States persons and networks, violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence in prison, individual or lone wolf’ violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence, and other faces of the phenomena of violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence that the Commission considers important.

(2) Build upon and bring together the work of other entities and avoid unnecessary duplication, by reviewing the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of–

(A) the Center of Excellence established or designated under section 899D, and other academic work, as appropriate;

(B) Federal, State, local, or tribal studies of, reviews of, and experiences with violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence; and

(C) foreign government studies of, reviews of, and experiences with violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence.

Section 899D of the bill establishes a Center of Excellence for the Study of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism in the United States. Essentially, this will be a Department of Homeland Security affiliated institution that will study and determine how to defeat thought criminals. (more)

Some say this violates our civil rights and goes against the Constitution.

This bill is one of the most blatant attacks against the Constitution yet and actually defines thought crimes as homegrown terrorism. If passed into law, it will also establish a commission and a Center of Excellence to study and defeat so called thought criminals. Unlike previous anti-terror legislation, this bill specifically targets the civilian population of the United States and uses vague language to define homegrown terrorism. Amazingly, 404 of our elected representatives from both the Democrat and Republican parties voted in favor of this bill. There is little doubt that this bill is specifically targeting the growing patriot community that is demanding the restoration of the Constitution. (more at roguegovernment)

With Hate crimes laws a criminal, whether he is guilty of murder, rape, whatever, is given a more severe punishment because the hate thoughts he/she had leading up to the crime. I think this is wrong. With HATE crimes laws:

While motive or state of mind are routinely considered in criminal cases (as mitigating or aggravating factors,) ideology is not routinely invoked in determining the seriousness of an alleged crime. Hate crime legislation, however, is expressly designed to punish particular thoughts or ideas.

Its advocates argue that hate crimes demand differential treatment because they are crimes against communities, not just individuals. Hate crimes "are more serious than a normal assault because they target not just an individual, but an entire group of people," [snip]

When someone convicted of assaulting one woman is subject to an enhanced prison sentence or a more vigorous prosecution because his assault was motivated by a hateful belief in the inherent inferiority of all women, then he is being punished for his thoughts as well as his conduct. (Wall Street Journal)

It seems that H.R. 1955 may have some very good intentions. With home grown terrorists, we want to catch them before they actually carry out a terror attack on American soil. But I don't believe anyone would be arrested for what someone in government thinks the individual has in his/her mind, without tangible material evidence to back up the charges.

What do you think about this bill?

Funding Evil

Funding Evil -- How Terrorism is Financed and How to Stop It, by Rachel Ehrenfeld

Fundingevil Since March 2002, Saudi billionaire Khalid bin Mahfouz has sued or threatened to sue in England at least 36 writers and publishers, including many Americans, who have documented his financial contributions to al Qaeda and other Islamic terror groups, through his Muwafaq (Blessed Relief) foundation, and the Saudi National Commercial Bank he owned. Everyone settled with bin Mahfouz, except me.

England's libel laws favor the individual's rights over the public. They allow bin Mahfouz and other terror financiers, known as "libel tourists," to veil in secrecy their funding of al Qaeda, other Islamic terror organizations and global propagation of radical Islam. British laws earned the U.K. the label: "libel capital of the Western world", and rained wealth on Britain's libel bar.

Bin Mahfouz's legal "victories" in London had the desired effect he and other Saudi terror financiers sought, silencing of the media even in the U.S. where the First Amendment protects writers and publishers. But American book and newspaper publishers are not willing to risk expensive lawsuits in London. Many refuse to publish even the most comprehensively documented reports on alleged wealthy Middle Eastern funding terrorism.

Bin Mahfouz sued me in London in January 2004, shortly after the U.S. publication of my book Funding Evil: How Terrorism is Finance, and How to Stop It. I refused to acknowledge the jurisdiction of a British court over a book published here; the court then ruled for bin Mahfouz by default, enjoined British publication of Funding Evil, awarded bin Mahfouz $225,900 in damages and expenses and ordered me to publicly apologize and destroy the book. I refuse to acknowledge the British Court or its ruling.

Bin Mahfouz would not enjoy success were he to sue me for libel in U.S. The facts in Funding Evil are well documented by the media and the U.S. Congress, courts and other official statements.

On October 12, 2001 the Treasury Department designated as a terrorist, the director of bin Mahfouz's Muwafaq foundation, Yasin al-Qadi. The Treasury report described the direct support from Muwafaq to bin Laden, quoting the latter's statement that "The bin Laden Establishment's aid, comes in particular from the Human Concern International Society [based, and operating in Gloucester, Ontari, [and] includes Muwaffaq Society in Zagreb." The report continues," $3 million from the National Commercial Bank, which was run by Khalid bin Mahfouz, [were deposited] into the accounts of the Blessed Relief and other charities that serve as a front for bin Laden."

Further corroboration comes from the French General Directorate of External Security (DGSE), as reported last summer in the French daily, Le Monde. The DGSE reported that, in 1998, it knew bin Mahfouz to be an architect of the banking scheme built to benefit Osama bin Laden, and that both U.S. and British intelligence services knew it, too. Strangely, neither bin Mahfouz nor his foundation were designated by U.S. authorities as supporting terrorism.

Since British libel law favors suits such as bin Mahfouz's, and the First Amendment protects U.S. journalists reporting on public issues, I chose to fight his false claims in America. I sued in a New York federal court, for a declaration that bin Mahfouz' English default judgment is unenforceable in the United States, because it violates my First Amendment rights.

Prominent civil liberties lawyer Harvey Silverglate described it as "one of the most important First Amendment cases in the past 25 years."

On June 8, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously declared my case is "ripe" for hearing in a U.S. court, noting that the case has implications for all U.S. authors and publishers, whose First Amendment rights are threatened by foreign libel rulings.

The ruling thus established that all U.S. writers and publishers sued for libel in other countries, can ask U.S. courts to rule the foreign decisions unenforceable here, provided they have jurisdiction over the person who sued for libel overseas. In my case, the New York Court of Appeals will hear arguments on November 15.

This important legal decision weakened bin Mahfouz' ability to threaten or sue U.S. authors and publishers. Shortly afterwards, bin Mahfouz threatened to sue Cambridge University Press (CUP), the publisher of Alms of Jihad: Charity and Terrorism in the Islamic World, but refrained from including the book's two American writers, J. Millard Burr and Robert O. Collins.

Facing the mere threat of a lawsuit from Saudi billionaire Khalid bin Mahfouz, Cambridge University Press, the world's oldest publishing house, agreed in Britain's High Court on July 30, to pulp all the unsold copies. When the American authors rightfully refused to join, CUP issued a public apology, which in fact defamed the authors. CUP also paid substantial undisclosed damages, a huge "contribution" to a charity of bin Mahfouz' choice, and sent letters to more than 200 libraries worldwide, asking to pull the book off their shelves. CUP's capitulation handed an important victory to the Saudis' financial jihad against free speech.

Winning my case against bin Mahfouz will not change the British ruling against me. But judging by the impact my case has had already one can hope that U.K. writers and publishers would demand changing their libel laws, to allow the freedom of responsible publications without the fear of intimidating, expensive lawsuits.

If foreigners wish to sue Americans for exposing threats to our national security, they are welcome do so in the U.S., under the First Amendment laws. But Congress should terminate this form of Financial Jihad, silencing the media by intimidation, and costly foreign libel suits on matters governed by U.S. jurisdiction.

To better protect our freedom of speech, Congress could reinforce the First Amendment with a new statute prohibiting enforcement of foreign libel judgments in the U.S., whenever American authors and publishers report responsibly on terror, related and other national security threats.

We are at war with enormously wealthy and determined enemies. We should prevent their use of their tremendous wealth to deprive American writers from exposing actions that threaten our safety and freedoms.

Rachel Ehrenfeld is the director of the American Center for Democracy www.acdemocracy.org, and member of the Committee on the Present Danger.

Of the 36 writers and publishers that Saudi billionaire - and terror financier - Khalid bin Mahfouz has sued or threatened to sue in England for libel, only Rachel Ehrenfeld the author of Funding Evil: How Terrorism is Financed, and How to Stop It has not backed down. She explains how and why she is fighting back.

Al Qaeda Website Confirms Plans For An American Hiroshima, BY PAUL L. WILLIAMS, posted at Infidel Bloggers Alliance

The Global Islamic Media Front, the leading al Qaeda website, has posted a report that verifies Osama bin Laden's possession of nuclear weapons and his intent, if provoked, to deploy these weapons against the United States. [snip]

"Al-Qaeda leaders claimed to have deployed their tactical weapons inside America. But when I tried to track the transportation of those weapons from Georgia, I lost track in Italy. I don't know the location of these today because my source left Afghanistan for Iraq last year. On the other hand, they claimed to me that weapons were smuggled to America through Mexico." Human race will 'split into two different species'

From the Daily Mail:

The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive, intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like creatures, according to a top scientist.

100,000 years into the future, sexual selection could mean that two distinct breeds of human will have developed.

The alarming prediction comes from evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from the London School of Economics, who says that the human race will have reached its physical peak by the year 3000.

Evolution

These humans will be between 6ft and 7ft tall and they will live up to 120 years.

"Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates," says the report, which suggests that advances in cosmetic surgery and other body modifying techniques will effectively homogenise our appearance.

Men will have symmetrical facial features, deeper voices and bigger penises, according to Curry in a report commissioned for men's satellite TV channel Bravo.

Women will all have glossy hair, smooth hairless skin, large eyes and pert breasts, according to Curry.

Racial differences will be a thing of the past as interbreeding produces a single coffee-coloured skin tone.

The future for our descendants isn't all long life, perfect bodies and chiselled features, however. (read more here)

Free Basic Immigration Enforcement Training

Free Basic Immigration Enforcement Training, cross posted from The Uncooperative Blogger

We must understand the daunting task of dealing with illegal immigration. However, turning a blind eye to the problem, providing amnesty, Accepting Consular Id cards, ant not sealing our borders is not the answer. Sanctuary cities are certainly not thew answer and is illegal. Of course El Presidente Bush will not enforce the law. Certainly getting local law enforcement rained is part of the solution. So, I present this solution...

Rather than spending valuable time and training funds on traditional classroom training, officers can now use Basic Immigration Enforcement Training (BIET) for their immigration training. BIET consists of Web-based courses, allowing officers to take classes when and wherever is most convenient for them.

BIET is a highly interactive, self-paced multimedia training program that addresses the immigration knowledge requirements of local, state, and tribal law enforcement officers. BIET addresses a wide range of topics including:

* False identification
* Identifying valid identification documents
* Consular notification
* Diplomatic immunity
* Nonimmigrant visas
* Immigrant and nonimmigrant status
* Law Enforcement Support Center resources

BIET was developed with funding received from the Department of Justice (COPS). The pilot program is available for free to all departments that meet the participation criteria. The pilot program is only open to 500 officers, so contact us today to gain access to BIET's innovative training.

Following the seizure in Europe of hollowed-out shoes containing blasting caps, U.S. authorities have been told to be on the lookout for thick-soled shoes that could be used to conceal explosives, as infamously was the case with convicted “shoe bomber” Richard Reid.

An American Dissident's Fighting Words. My Speech at Columbia on 10/24/07, Phyllis Chesler

An American Dissident's Fighting Words. My Speech at Columbia on 10/24/07, by Phyllis Chesler

It is an honor and a privilege to be here today. Talking about Islamo-fascism and the violent Islamic oppression of Muslim women, Muslim intellectuals, and Muslim homosexuals is exactly the right thing to do at this moment in history. The western university campus is exactly the right place to do so since it is the university that has been hijacked, Palestinianized, Stalinized, Edward Said-ized, by a series of truly Great Lies.

It is time to take the campus back so that the rights of “free speech” and “academic freedom” also apply to those who tell the truth about Islam and who espouse minority and dissident intellectual points of view. Such rights also belong to those of us who are pro-American and pro-Israel and not only to those who demonize the West and valorize Islamist misogyny, death-cult terrorism, and Wahabi and Salafi fundamentalism.

Telling the truth about Islam is, apparently, “provocative.” One risks everything for doing so. In my opinion, one risks even more for failing to do so.

I want to thank the students at Columbia who have made this evening possible as well as David Horowitz and the Horowitz Freedom Center which has organized similar panels all over the country this week and has, in addition, published a pamphlet which I co-authored together with Robert Spencer which is titled The Violent Oppression of Women in Islam.

It is both extraordinary and tragic that one needs serious security in order to be heard on campus, that one must run a gauntlet of hostility for the right to teach. Please note who needs the security and who does not. Who disrupts and protests speeches and who does not. Goon-squad tactics of intimidation and disruption should have absolutely no place in the free exchange of ideas. We should exchange competing ideas civilly, with an open mind, and our ideas should be based on facts and truth, not on propaganda.

I have spoken at Barnard and Columbia many times over the years. Long ago, in the 1960s and 1970s, when I was a politically correct “rebel-girl,” I was more than welcome here.

More recently, in 2003, my words about Islamic gender and religious Apartheid caused a near-riot at a feminist conference at Barnard and I had to be hustled out for my safety.

In 2006 or 2007, I was persona non grata at Barnard at a panel organized by the Veteran Feminists of America. Although I am a founding member, my own group would not allow me to speak about the Islamist War Against Women. Here’s why.

No western academic is supposed to criticize anything that a formerly colonized man of color does—including gang-rape or stone women of color to death. Nor can he or she focus on the savage persecution of homosexuals or on the epidemic of homosexual pederasty in the Islamic world; or on the persecution of heroic Muslim and ex-Muslim intellectuals and human rights activists.

Muslim-on-Muslim homicide and genocide are also “unmentionables.” Any western academic who dares discuss such tabooed subjects will be defamed as a “racist” and “colonialist.” Fear of this allegation is so great that false concerns about racism have inevitably trumped all feminist concerns about sexism. This is the new McCarthyism and it is coming to us from the left.

In the early 1960s, I was held captive in Kabul, Afghanistan, in fairly posh purdah. I was a young bride. I escaped, I survived, I learned a thing or two. I write about this in The Death of Feminism which describes Islamic gender apartheid both way back then and now, as it is penetrating the West.

For example, I learned that what characterizes Islam (not Islamism) is mainly indigenous to the culture, the region, and the religion and is not necessarily caused by Western imperialism, colonialism, or capitalism.

The Christian crusades did not “cause” Arab or Muslim slavery, racism, polygamy, arranged child marriage, female genital mutilation, honor murders, forced face-veiling, capital punishment for apostates (Muslims who leave Islam), or the segregation of women. It did not cause Islamic jihad or Islamic imperialism which preceded the Crusades by centuries.

In the early 1970s, American imperialism and Israeli policies of self-defense did not force Bangladeshi Muslims to murder their own women for the crime of having been raped by enemy Muslim soldiers.

In the 1980s, when Iranian village mullahs ordered that women be lynched, the villagers did not stone their daughters, mothers, and sisters because America had, in the past, interfered with Iranian politics.

No American or European oil company ordered the men of Saudi Arabia to prohibit Saudi women from driving, or from going out without a male escort, nor did they order the be-heading of a Saudi Princess for daring to choose a love match.

No Israeli law forced Palestinians to honor-murder their women, beat their wives and daughters, or to force-veil women against their will. Only Hamas did that.

My Second Wave feminist credentials are rooted in a universalist vision of human rights. Because I believe that all women and men are equal, I am therefore, not a multi-cultural relativist. I believe that all human beings deserve certain unalienable rights, whether they live in Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or in New York City.

I especially support such human rights for the most heroic of heroes today who are fighting against Islamism in their own countries and who are themselves Muslims, ex-Muslims, or Arab and Asian Christians. Their extraordinary heroism is in sharp contrast to and puts the blindness and cowardice of our tenured western radicals to shame.

Such secular and religious activists, influenced by western concepts of democracy, freedom, human rights, and women’s rights, are now fighting for those very rights in their own countries. They are being murdered, imprisoned, tortured, and censored for daring to hold the ideas that we safely take for granted in the West.

Fatwas (or death threats) have been issued against them. Some who live in hiding require serious, round-the-clock protection. Some must write under pseudonyms. Many such dissidents live in exile and simply cannot understand why western multi-cultural relativists refuse to side with them and instead, side with their persecutors.

Think: Salman Rushdie, Taslima Nasrin, Ayaan Hirsi Ali for starters.

For daring to defend them I (and many others) are being censored in both Europe and America, whose Islamification is well under way.

Western dissidents have also been sued for telling the truth about Islam and about the Saudi and Islamic funding for terrorism against Western civilian targets.

Think: Oriana Fallaci, Rachel Ehrenfeld.

Western feminists and pro-woman academics must understand that like women everywhere, Arab and Muslim women have internalized their culture’s views of women. Therefore, like men, some women will justify wife-beating, purdah, polygamy, veiling, and female genital mutilation. Thus, just because Muslim women can be trotted out to support Islamic Gender Apartheid, does not necessarily mean that their words on such subjects are any more inviolate than those of their male counterparts.

In America, in the 1960s, most women denied that they were economically discriminated against or, if proven wrong, insisted that it did not bother them. They blamed themselves entirely when they were sexually harassed, raped, or beaten. Only years of education and struggle have begun to change these attitudes among American women and men.

If Western feminists are not committed to the same struggle for Muslim, Arab, and Third World women they have betrayed their own moral vision of equality for all women and men.

Today, in Muslim countries, women are being more forcefully and fully veiled. They are being imprisoned, gang-raped, flogged, and in Iran, often hung or stoned to death when they allege rape or run away from unusually cruel and life-threatening-families. Honor murders are either increasing or have become more visible – perhaps because Western and Western influenced feminists and human rights activists have begun to document them.

Recently, in the fall of 2006 (the end of Ramadan), perhaps a thousand men conducted a ‘sexual wilding’ in Cairo. They surrounded individual girls and women who were fully veiled, partly veiled, and unveiled, and groped and assaulted them. Individuals tried to help these women – who escaped from the male crowds naked and half-naked. The police refused to make any arrests and the media did not cover it. I and others only learned of this incident because some foreign journalists blogged it – and because one brave Egyptian woman spoke about it on a live Egyptian television programme.

Pro-Islamists are perfectly free to criticize, even to demonize the West in the West, because they live in a democracy where academic freedom and free speech are (still) taken seriously. Were they to dare criticize the barbarism, misogyny, and despotism of Third World countries, were they to do so in Afghanistan, Algeria, Iran, Bangladesh or Saudi Arabia (to name only a few such countries), they would be in serious danger of being shot to death in her own home, as happened recently to an Afghan woman journalist, or of being imprisoned, tortured, and murdered. This has happened to many Muslim dissidents and feminists.

In 2003, Wajeha Al-Huwaider was barred from publishing in the Saudi Kingdom; in 2006 she was arrested, interrogated, and forced to sign a statement agreeing to cease her human rights activities.

Bangladeshi writer Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, had his office bombed, was jailed for two years and is now on trial for his life. His crime? ‘Praising the Jew and Christians’, ‘attempting to travel to Israel’, and ‘predicting the rise of Islamist militancy’. These charges may carry a death sentence.

Women are not yet free from violence and inequality in America but really, we do not face these conditions.

In The Death of Feminism, I also describe another incident which took place in July 2001 in Hassi Messaoud, Algeria, in which a mob of three hundred men conducted a three-day pogrom against thirty-nine economically impoverished Algerian women. In his Friday sermons, the local mullah, Amar Taleb, had described these women as ‘immoral’ because they were working for a foreign company. The men tortured, stabbed, mutilated, gang-raped, buried alive and murdered these women.

Feminists especially need to acknowledge that this is happening. We need to wrestle with it and take a stand against it. We need to make common cause with Third World and Muslim feminists and dissidents who want to create alliances.

Western feminists and academics must end their unnatural obsession with the so-called “occupation” of Palestine and focus of the occupation of women’s bodies throughout the Muslim world. If they care about women, they must confront the issues that characterize Islamic gender apartheid and affect at least half a billion women in the Islamic world.

Western feminist academics have now become allied with Islamists—against Muslim and ex-Muslim women and against their own feminist principles. Now is the time for western intellectuals who claim to be antiracists or committed to human and women’s rights to stand with Muslim and ex-Muslim dissidents. To do so, requires that we adopt a universal standard of human rights and abandon our loyalty to multicultural relativism which justifies, even romanticizes, indigenous barbarism, totalitarian terrorism and the persecution of women, religious minorities, homosexuals, and intellectuals.

Our abject refusal to judge between civilization and barbarism, and between enlightened rationalism and theocratic fundamentalism endangers and condemns the victims of Islamic tyranny even further.

Al-Qaeda is mad at Al-Jazeera -- "collaborator with the Crusaders"

Discord among America's enemies. Al-Qaeda is mad at Al-Jazeera for airing Osama Bin Laden's latest tape where he admits he has made mistakes. (OH, THE INSANITY).
CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida sympathizers have unleashed a torrent of anger against Al-Jazeera television, accusing it of misrepresenting Osama bin Laden’s latest audiotape by airing excerpts in which he criticizes mistakes by insurgents in Iraq.

Aqaj

Users of a leading Islamic militant Web forum posted thousands of insults against the pan-Arab station for focusing on excerpts in which bin Laden criticizes insurgents, including his followers.

Analysts said the reaction highlighted militants’ surprise at bin Laden’s words, and their dismay at the deep divisions among al-Qaida and other Iraqi militants that he appeared to be trying to heal.

“It’s not about Al-Jazeera…. it's about their shock from bin Laden," said Diaa Rashwan, an Egyptian expert on Islamic militant groups. "For the first time, bin Laden, who used to be the spiritual leader who gives guidance, became a critic of al-Qaida and is confessing mistakes. This is unusual."

"God fight Al-Jazeera," railed one militant Web poster, calling the station a "collaborator with the Crusaders" for suggesting the tape showed weakness in al-Qaida and featuring discussions of how the tape reflected weaknesses and divisions among insurgents in Iraq. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the new Commander-in-Chief Major-General Mohammad Ali Jafari

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the new Commander-in-Chief Major-General Mohammad Ali Jafari, from Insight Into Today's Middle East

On October 25, 2007, the Bush administration imposes new sanctions against Iran aimed at the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Quds Force. The sanctions will empower the United States to financially isolate a large part of Iran's military and anyone inside or outside Iran who does business with it. Such steps could impact any number of foreign companies by pressuring them to stop doing business with the Revolutionary Guards or risk U.S. sanctions. [1]

The IRGC is accused of proliferating weapons of mass destruction, the IRGC´s elite Quds Force and the IRGC´s foreign operations branch and is now designated as a supporter of terrorism. It is the harshest programme of sanctions on Iran since the Islamic Republic´s revolution of 1979.

Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, announced that 22 Iranian Government agencies and three state-owned banks are being blacklisted, in an attempt to punish Iran for refusing to stop enriching uranium. [2] The banks targeted Thursday were Bank Melli and Bank Mellat, accused of providing banking services for Iran's nuclear agencies, and Bank Saderat, which allegedly funnels funds to Islamist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas. [3]

The Quds Force runs Tehran's covert activities throughout the Middle East, though its existence has never been officially acknowledged.

The Revolutionary Guards force was set up shortly after the 1979 Iranian revolution to defend the country's Islamic system, and to provide a counterweight to the regular armed forces. It has since become the dominant military force in Iran, with past members including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a number of his cabinet ministers. [4] The IRGC, the most powerful wing of Iran's military, controls construction companies, pharmaceutical plants, and segments of the oil industry. [5]

On September 1st, 2007, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Kahmenei, Iran´s highest authority, replaced the commander of the Revolutionary Guards. Mohammad Ali Jafari, who has been a commander in the Guards, is the new successor of Guards commander-in-chief Yahya Rahim Safavi.
Mohammad Ali Jafari said on September 29, 2007, that the "main responsibility" of the corps now is to counter "internal threats." He added that the IRGC will confront any threat that might undermine the achievements of the Islamic republic. He also said that the all-volunteer Basij militia will fall under the IRGC's command. The Basij has reportedly been involved in a number of attacks on students and intellectuals. Jafari said those forces will adapt to meet current threats. Jafari said the threats against Iran have become increasingly complex, adding that, "We don't have the right to remain silent." [6]

The Basij ("volunteers"), a "people's militia" organized in 1980, came under IRGC control in the 1980s to monitor citizens' activities and to arrest and harass women who did not adhere to the strict Islamic dress code laid down by the regime.

The mass movement created by Khomeini in 1979 and militarized after the war started in order to supplement his beleaguered army. The Basij Mostazafan - or "mobilization of the oppressed" - was essentially a volunteer militia, most of whose members were not yet 18. Since Ahmadinejad became president, the influence of the Basij has grown. At the end of July 2005, the Basij movement announced plans to increase its membership from ten million to 15 million by 2010. [7]

Mohammad Ali Jafari joined the Basiji volunteer militia during Iran's 1980-88 war with Iraq and, in 1981, became a member of the IRGC. [8]

He was born in 1957 in the Iranian city of Yazd, where he finished his secondary school education. He entered Tehran University in 1977, studying architecture and becoming active in student politics. On November 4, 1979, he was among the students who stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran, triggering a hostage crisis that lasted 444 days. [9]

In 1990 he became commander of all IRGC ground forces. [10] In the summer of 2005 Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei chose Jafari to establish and direct a strategic research centre for the IRGC. In this capacity, Jafari established the "Lovers of Martyrdom Garrison," which recruited volunteers to participate in suicide operations against Western targets. "The lovers of Martyrdom Garrison has been activated and we will form a martyrdom-seeking division for each province in the country, organised in brigades, battalions and companies to defend Islam," Jafari said in a July 2005 interview with the Iranian weekly, Parto-Sokhan.  "One of our garrison's aims is to spot martyrdom-seeking individuals in society and then recruit and organise them, so that, God willing, at the right moment when the Commander in Chief of the country's armed forces (Ayatollah Khamenei) gives the order, they would be able to enter the scene and carry out their missions."

Jafari concluded, "Let America and Israel know, each of our suicide volunteers equals a nuclear bomb. The United States should know that we have nuclear weapons, but they are in the hearts of suicide bombers."  [11]

In September 2005 Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Jafari as director of the Supreme National Security Council's directorate for internal security. [12] Khamenei, later put him in charge of Iran's operations against U.S. forces in Iraq.

In early 2007 U.S. forces almost captured Jafari in Iraqi territory when they grabbed five members of his company who they believed were carrying out clandestine activities for the Iranian regime.

Jafari said, "The Guard Corps stand by the side of the people and it is at their service for reconstruction of the country and establishment of national unity and Islamic solidarity." [13]

When he came to power in the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei identified leading military personnel loyal to the Shah and had them arrested, tried and executed. Khomeini did not eliminate Iran's regular armed forces but instead created the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), or Pasdaran e-Inqilib, as the guardians of the revolution. The new Islamic Republic's constitution entrusted the defence of the nation to the military, and the preservation of the Islamic Revolution, specifically assisting the ruling clerics in their enforcement of the government's new Islamic codes and morality, to the IRGC. [14]

The United States is set to officially blacklist the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps by listing it as a terrorist organisation, US officials said on August 15, 2007. So far, only an "in principle" decision to name elements of the IRGC a "specially designated global terrorist" group has been made. [15]

Khomeini's establishment of the Revolutionary Guard by decree on May 5, 1979, served notice both to the population and the armed forces that Khomeini's regime had its own protectorate and intended to bring a new order to the country. In the 1980s the IRGC had it own army and evolved to become one of the most powerful bodies within Iran's government. It developed its own intelligence organisation operating both in Iran and abroad and began to exert  a strong influence over government policy. By 1986 the IRGC comprised 350,000 personnel organised into battalion-size units that operated either independently or with units of regular forces and including elements within the navy and air force.

The IRGC's Qods force is responsible for overseas operations, including training Islamic fundamentalist terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Qods is also responsible for gathering intelligence information for planning terrorist attacks. Qods personnel are also assigned to Iranian diplomatic missions.

IRGC operatives have supported Hezbollah's overseas branches in Iraq, Kurdistan, Jordan, and the Palestinian Territories. They have also been known to support operatives in Egypt, Turkey and Chechnya. [16]

IRGC special units provided laser-guided missiles and deployment training to Hezbollah, which then used these missiles to sink an Israeli warship during last year's hostilities in Lebanon. It was an IRGC naval unit that kidnapped Britain's 15 Royal Marines and sailors off Iraqi coastal waters.

The IRGC has also equipped Iraqi insurgent groups with roadside bombs and rockets that are used against British and coalition troops in Iraq.

The IRGC has also created a secret intelligence infrastructure and created ghost offshore companies that have given the regime the opportunity to enrich uranium to enable Iran to become a nuclear power.

In 2006, the Guards won a contract worth 2.09 billion dollars to develop phases 15 and 16 of Iran's biggest gas field, South Pars, and a 1.3 billion dollar deal to build a pipeline towards Pakistan. [17]

The IRGC controls vast numbers of businesses and financial conglomerates, establishing hundreds of front companies in Europe, the Middle East and southeast Asia that have allowed the regime to dodge the U.S. government's arms embargo and export controls on Iran. IRGC-owned companies have muscled into $10 billion in contracts to develop Iran's aging oil and gas fields. IRGC operatives also run Iran's multi billion dollar gasoline and cigarette smuggling trade. [18]

According to a report in the UK's Daily Telegraph, the Iranian government runs a network of covert nuclear research laboratories at a secret military base outside Tehran. The purpose of the project, code named Zirzamin 27, is to allow the Iranians to undertake uranium enrichment to a military standard. The operation is widely believed to be run by the IRGC under the leadership of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the head of Iran's Modern Defensive Readiness and Technology Centre, a top-secret military research site. [19]

The nature of the Islamic Republic is changing from a system governed by the Shiite clergy and guarded by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps into a regime dominated by the military. As current and former IRGC members infiltrate most centers of power, and as the IRGC itself develops into a business conglomerate independent of state regulation, the Islamic Republic increasingly resembles other military regimes: a military-industrial complex hiding behind a civilian façade. [20]

The IRGC supports a global terrorism network, supplying arms, training and financing to Islamic terrorist organisations, and also works domestically within the regime through the using brute force and terror against the Iranian people to ensure they comply with Islamic laws and the Ayatollahs' decrees.

And Then There Were Three ... First hand account of events at Columbia University

AND THEN THERE WERE THREE...

BY: FERN SIDMAN

The voices of truth can never be diminished or drowned out, be it by the rain that fell in New York City or by the zealousness of truth's adversaries. On Wednesday evening, October 24th, the electricity in the air was palpable on the campus of Columbia University. In a packed classroom in the mathematics building, a panel discussion was held as part of an ongoing series of lectures in a weeklong event being held on over 100 university and college campuses. This nationwide event is entitled Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week and is the brainchild of the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

David Horowitz is a former left-wing academic whose politics have now taken a giant step to the right. As one of the founders of the New Left in the 1960s, he was also the editor of its most influential magazine, Ramparts. He is the author, with Peter Collier, of a number of best-selling dynastic biographies on the Rockefellers, the Kennedys, the Fords, and the Roosevelts. With Collier he also wrote Destructive Generation (1989), a chronicle of their break with the 1960s Left, that has been compared to Whittaker Chambers’ Witness and other classic works documenting a break from totalitarianism. On his web site, www.frontpagemag.com, Mr. Horowitz champions an array of causes including the defense of the principles of individual freedom as well as defending free societies in the war against their enemies, and the reestablishment of academic freedom in American schools.

Because of the controversy that swirls around an event of this nature and magnitude, threats of protests and possible disruptions were made by a number of quintessential left-wing and pro-Muslim organizations including the Revolutionary Communist Party, United for Peace and Justice, Jewish Progressives and the Muslim Student Association, among others. Several security guards, (provided by the David Horowitz Freedom Center) who looked strikingly similar to stoic FBI agents or undercover cops ushered in the panelists and stood guard around the room. While the audience was quite diverse in nature, outside the building stood a lone demonstrator, who held a sign reviling the event as racist. Inside, the story was a bit different. A contingent from the Revolutionary Communist Party along with left wing representatives of the Women's Studies and Middle Eastern Studies departments got their printing presses rolling at top speed, churning out libelous propaganda aimed at discrediting the objectives of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week and took aim at the panelists, namely Phyllis Chesler. They even resorted to passing out a sheet of pre-prepared questions for audience members to ask that reeked of bellicosity, and surely did not promote open mindedness. So much for academic freedom and freedom of speech.

The student representative who helped organize this event asked the audience to curtail their predilection to disrupt the speakers and announced the rules for the Q&A, which followed.

Judging by the persons impaneled for the event at Columbia University, it would appear that Mr. Horowitz is not the only one whose political voice has made some major modifications. Dr. Phyllis Chesler, an Emerita Professor of Psychology at the College of Staten Island was a prominent voice and vanguard of the Second Wave feminist movement and a former political progressive. When she began to challenge the feminist and left-wing camps for propounding a "multi-cultural relativism" which essentially exonerates the Muslim world for its pervasive and barbaric abuse of women, she was labeled as a "dangerous traitor" by her former colleagues and relegated to a persona non-grata status. Her groundbreaking views on Islamic gender and religious apartheid have caused near riots on the many campuses that she has lectured at. She is a self-described "culture warrior" and is passionately committed to exposing the "Big Lies" of the left leaning, liberal Western academy. She is the author hundreds of articles and of 13 books, including, "The New Anti-Semitism - The Current Crisis and What We Must Do About It", (2003) which graphically illustrates the anti-Semitic agenda of intellectuals on the left, under the guise of anti-Zionism.

Ibn Warraq is a best-selling author, ex-Muslim intellectual, a dogmatic secularist, scholar and founder of the Institute for the Secularization of Islamic Society and a senior research fellow at the Center for Inquiry, specializing in Koranic criticism. Warraq gathered world notice through his controversial historiographies of the early centuries of the Islamic timeline and has published works which tend to challenge traditional conceptions of the period. He is the author of seven books, including Why I Am Not a Muslim (1995), The Origins of the Koran (1998),Quest for the Historical Muhammad, (2000), What the Koran Really Says (2002),Leaving Islam: Apostates Speak Out(2003), the just released - Defending the West: a Critique of Edward Said's Orientalism (2006) and Which Koran? (2007). He has also spoken at the "Victims of Jihad" conference at the United Nations that was organized by the International Humanist and Ethical Union alongside speakers such as Bat Ye'or, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and Simon Deng. The name "Ibn Warraq" is a pseudonym, to protect the true identity of a man who is "most wanted" in Muslim circles. Having been highly critical of Islam he is now considered an apostate, a marked man for his "heretical" views and for "betraying" the faith he was born into. His detractors claim he engages in anti-Islamic polemics while others such as atheist author Richard Dawkins describe him as a "deeply knowledgeable scholar of Islam."

Christina Hoff-Sommers is a former professor of philosophy and ethics at Clark University in Worcester, MA and a resident scholar at a conservative think tank, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI). She is an author of several books including her seminal work, Who Stole Feminism?: How Women Have Betrayed Women (1994), and The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men (2001). In her books and articles, Hoff-Sommers applies Paulo Freire's principle of transition to supremacy movements in successful political struggles to the mainstream feminist movement. She speaks of the distinction between equity feminism and gender feminism, the latter being the action of accenting the differences of genders for the purposes of creating privilege for women in academia, government, industry, or advancing personal agendas. She suggests that feminist leaders are not only placing their political goals above academic honesty, but they are also indoctrinating impressionable university students not with grounded science, but rather with disingenuous, emotionally-charged pseudo information. Like her co-panelist, Phyllis Chesler, Hoff-Sommers accuses the Western feminist movement of losing its moral clarity and of abandoning the cause of spotlighting and protesting against the horrific abuse of women in the Muslim world.

The evening began with Ibn Warraq offering an absolutely brilliant refutation of the late Columbia University English and Comparative Literature professor, Edward Said's 1978 book entitled "Orientalism", which marked the beginnings of postcolonial studies. According to the impeccable scholarly research done by Warraq, he asserts that the roots of late 20th century Islamo-Fascism began with Said's premise that "all of the woes of the Arabs in the Islamic world can be blamed on America and Israel". He points to the intellectual dishonesty of Said's claims that all Europeans are racists, thereby creating "a western style for dominating the Orient." He also reminds us that there are gross historic inaccuracies in Said's manifesto and that Said was not a Muslim and was not a scholar of Islamic though, yet did everything in his power to foster the spread of Islamic fundamentalism. Warraq tells us that through his writings, Said created a climate in which self-pity infected the vast precincts of the Islamic world, in which the West also appeared as the colonialist aggressor while the East remained the passive victim.

Dr. Phyllis Chesler, despite an injury to her leg, literally rose to the occasion and delivered her stirring remarks with the aplomb of a veteran academic and professor. She addressed a number of important issues including the growing concern in the Western world of the rampant spread of Islamo-Fascism which threatens to bring with it to our shores its own inimitable version of gender and racial apartheid. That translates into forced veilings of women, honor killings, female genital mutilation, stonings, wife-beating, forced marriages and purdah, not to mention executions of women, intellectuals, dissidents, homosexuals and other infidels.

She took issue with her former feminist colleagues when she said, "Western feminists and academics must end their unnatural obsession with the so-called "occupation" of Palestine and focus of the occupation of women's bodies throughout the Muslim world. If they care about women, they must confront the issues that characterize Islamic gender apartheid and affect at least half a billion women in the Islamic world." She also attempted to debunk the myth that former colonialist powers and imperialist forces were to blame for Islamic barbarism. Said Dr. Chesler, "The Christian Crusades did not "cause" Arab or Muslim slavery, racism, polygamy, arranged child marriage, female genital mutilation, honor murders, forced face-veiling, capital punishment for apostates (Muslims who leave Islam), or the segregation of women. It did not cause Islamic jihad or Islamic imperialism which preceded the Crusades by centuries." She also put forth the notion of a "new McCarthyism" being spearheaded by the left that imposes fear on academics who dare speak about Muslim on Muslim violence by pigeon-holing them as "racists" and "colonialists".

The last speaker of the evening was Christina Hoff-Sommers who also addressed the issue of Islamic misogyny and said that Osama bin Laden's worst nightmare would be the liberation of Islamic women. According to Hoff-Sommers the Islamic revolution set women back for at least a century, outlining the subjugation of Iranian women under a hideous male hegemony. She spoke of a book entitled, "The Girls of Riyadh" which was described as "chic literature", an Eastern version of "Sex In The City", which caused Imams in Saudi Arabia to whip men into a violent frenzy against women. She called this, "a compelling indictment of Islamic incitement." She praised heroic dissidents who are on a civilizing mission in Islamic countries, attempting to battle the forces of misogyny and patriarchal oppression of women. Hoff-Sommers posits that Islamic women are following the example of conservative women's rights activists such as Frances Willard, the second president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and are embracing a creative interpretation of the Koran. She chided the major Western feminist movements and women's studies departments on college campuses for focusing on such issues as the shape of women's bodies, sexual repression and the philosophy of the "Vagina Monologues", rather than championing the cause of basic human rights for women in the Islamic world.

Roberts Rules of Order seemed to prevail during the question and answer segment of the program, as the audience was again advised to keep to the question only format and not engage in diatribes or lengthy speeches. Most of the questions focused on American military involvement in Iraq and several questioners (mostly from the Revolutionary Communist Party) intimated that this event was just a clever subterfuge for promoting the Bush administration's "war on terror" strategy, which seeks to create a groundswell of support for the war in Iraq. The questioners made little reference to the obvious threat of Islamo-Fascism that was so eloquently spoken about by the panelists, but rather they focused on their own anti-American agenda as they questioned the perceived hypocrisy of the Iraqi constitution that enshrined Islam as the state religion. The panelists remained nonplussed during the Q&A and answered the questions with alacrity, armed with a voluminous amount of facts and a plethora of knowledge. The adversaries of truth and the purveyors of the Big Lies were outdone by the valiant truth tellers and protectors of the future of western civilization as we know it.

While history may or may not record this event at Columbia University, our kudos and accolades go to Ibn Warraq, Phyllis Chesler and Christina Hoff-Sommers for summoning the moral strength and courage to bear the slings and arrows of the totalitarian left, for exercising their right of freedom of speech in the name of truth and for their shining collective consciences. May they continue to lead us to a more peaceful, secure world, unfettered by fascism of any kind.

MEChA, Aztlan, take responsibility for wildfires *** HOAX *** -- aliens steal relief supplies *** UPDATE ***

UPDATE::: It seems that the MEChA taking responsibility for for setting fires website is a HOAX. This certainly fooled me because the site looked authentic. When a reader called me on it, I thought I had made a simple mistake of mislabeling the site, but alas that's not the case. Thanks to Stormwarning:

Using a website titled CNNheadlienews.com (note the spelling of headline - aside from the fact that the real CNN Headline News’ URL is http://www.cnn.com/HLN/), the hoax makes a travesty of the law enforcement effort to determine who is actually responsible for the tragic and horrific fire that has claimed lives, property and displaced millions of people. This also does an injustice to the Hispanic community by falsely spreading information that a group such as this could have set Southern California ablaze.

While I truly dislike CNN as a news source, this is the real article on CNN.com - Fire chief: 25,000-acre blaze was set

Morning Coffee says:

Now whoever started this Hoax is thoroughly disgusting. They obviously have no respect for those who are fighting the fires, and no sympathy for those who have lost homes or loved ones in the fire.

I really hate being taken in by this Hoax and will attempt to better verify my posts in the future.

Amen to that. I usually look for multiple sources on a topic, but this had been picked up by so many other bloggers I made the mistake of assuming it was correct, as they must also have done. Thanks to Stormwarning, Nuke's News and Views, Center for Vigilant Freedom, and others. I'm notifying Chicago Ray and 123Beta also.

When we're wrong, we're wrong. Consider this a lesson to ME and to others.

Radical Hispanic separatist organization MEChA ("Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan") is taking responsibility for setting the wildfires in California, confimed Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. --(CNN) Also, Illegal aliens have been caught steeling relief supplies for victims of the fires.

Artsantiagogi California officials received a letter earlier today containing photographs of individuals holding Molotov cocktails, then throwing them into dry brush. The faces of the individuals appeared to have been digitally distorted.

Also included was a rambling manifesto, stating that the reason for the act of arson was that "Aztlán belongs to indigenous people, the Chicanas and Chicanos of Aztlán. We are sovereign and not subject to a foreign culture."

Orange County Fire Battalion Chief Kris Concepcion told CNN that the pattern of wildfires definitely indicates arson.

"The reason we think it is [arson] is because we found multiple points of origin," Concepcion said. "... Our investigators have confirmed that this is, in fact, arson."

The Opaque Murders, Book Review

The_opaque_murders
The Opaque Murders, by J. R. Godlewski is one of the book selections for the Right Truth Book Club this month. Advertised as a "Poe-esque Psychological Suspense / Mystery novel with an ending that no one is going to expect!"

Synopsis: The newly appointed Chief Inspector of the East Broderick Police Department has awoken from a night of rare festivities to celebrate his long awaited promotion only to find that there's been a ghastly murder committed near his residence. Hung over and sick to his gills, he botches the investigation only to discover the next day that a second murder had taken place. Determined to regain his integrity, he launches into the investigation with professional gusto only to pursue an innocent party. Who's to blame when justice gets hammered?

If you have not read The Opaque Murders, I won't spoil the ending. I will tell you that while the mystery seems to be set in a previous era (we're not told the actual year of events), the elements might be the same today as they were then. Cities divided by affluence and squaller; bosses and workers; law-enforcement and law-breakers; innocent and guilty people. Sometimes it isn't so easy to see who falls into which category... and who are we to judge another person anyway?

People are flawed in real life, as they are in The Opaque Murders. Flawed and damaged people make mistakes, and mistakes have consequences that affect others. You will have to read the book to find out the details.

The Opaque Murders is a 269 page quick read. As promised for readers of Right Truth, the author R. J. Godlewski named two human characters in the book after yours truly and hubby, "Debbie and Tommy". Also a surprise for readers is the one pet, a dog, named Puddin. Puddin was our dog that we had to put to sleep while the book was being written. What a nice way to honor a very special pet. Thank you Mr. Godlewski for such a sweet gesture.

Now rush over here and purchase your copy of The Opaque Murders.

Previously the Right Truth Book Club reviewed "Lone Survivor", by Marcus Luttrell with Patrick Robinson, the eyewitness account of Operation Redwing and the lost heroes of Seal Team 10 in Afghanistan.

Terror Drill Results

Labeled "TOPOFF 4", short for “Top Officials 4", this terror drill "involves 22,000 participants in Arizona, Oregon and Guam practicing responses to various emergencies", including dirty bombs. The participants "from all levels of government, nationally and internationally, as well as the private sector in a full-scale simulated response to radiological dispersal device, or "dirty bomb."

Like any other test or drill, the idea is to see where we are prepared and where we need to make changes and improvements. The drill includes testing first responders; traffic flow/congestion; airports and other mass transit facililties; media response; evacuation plans; and everything that a terrorist attack such as a dirty bomb might affect. Results of these drills can be applied to natural disasters, but: "The difference between natural disasters and man-made disasters is that terrorists can be a lot more calculating," Michael J. Widomski, a spokesman for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

So what did we learn:

Congress learns from a mock response to a so-called "dirty bomb" that there are too few labs to perform the necessary tests to determine exposure if an American city is contaminated. Rep. Brad Miller, a Democrat from North Carolina, discusses the matter with Steve Inskeep. (NPR)

More on Topoff from FBI and Homeland Security:

... it involves the highest levels of government and is the fourth event of its kind. It’s the largest terrorism exercise in the United States, meant to test the nation’s collective mettle in responding to a terrorist attack.

The fabricated scenario. Terrorists snuck radioactive materials into the U.S. … then launched three nearly simultaneous strikes using “dirty bombs”—first in Guam near a power plant, then in Portland, Oregon, and in Phoenix, Arizona. Unlike conventional nukes, the bombs—called radiological dispersal devices—release radioactive materials into the surrounding areas, wreaking all kinds of health and rescue havoc.

Our role. As the lead U.S. agency for terrorism investigations, it was our job to run the overall law enforcement piece, including the investigation in each venue. Along the way, we brought to bear our suite of capabilities—evidence recovery experts, SWAT teams, HAZMAT specialists, intelligence analysts, crisis managers, IT specialists, surveillance experts, bomb technicians, WMD specialists, forensic scientists, victim-witness professionals, and media coordinators.

For us, the lessons learned and experiences gained are invaluable: (more at Student Operated Press and

Frank Blas, Jr. wants to know how much this drill COST:

Now that the dust has settled from last week's TOPOFF-4 homeland security exercise, chairman of the Legislative Committee on Homeland Security and former Guam homeland security advisor senator Frank Blas, Jr. plans to get some answers as to how much the Government of Guam paid to play. He'll also be seeking answers from the feds on whether it held up its bargain in terms of the memorandum of agreement signed only days before the exercise began.

"I will be inquiring for those costs from both sides as well," confirmed the freshman policymaker, "and I want to see if there was equality and parity in this thing."
