Russian President Vladimir Putin knows that the missile defense program proposed by the United States is no threat to him or his country. So why is he making such a big deal? Putin says that there is no proof that Tehran is trying to build a nuclear-weapons program and Condi Rice accused Iran of “lying” about the purpose of its nuclear program and deceiving the U.N.’s atomic watchdog agency the IAEA.
Putin might be in a position to know, since Russia has played a major part in building and supplying Iran's nuclear program. Would he lie? I think PrairiePundit sums up the situation nicely, "Putin continues incoherence on missile defense."
Putin is yet to articulate a rational argument against a defensive system that effects Russian "deterrence" not at all. He can show no harm from such a system. It does not even deter him from being a bully with the Europeans. It does make an Iranian threat which might lead to a nuclear war less likely and he cannot even explain why that is not desirable. There must be some visceral feeling rather than rational thought behind this opposition. Perhaps he sees some benefit in having an Iranian threat, but it could threaten him too.Rice also described the Iranians as liars when it comes to their nuke program. there is significant evidence of this deceit which Putin is willingly ignoring. (PrairiePundit)
United States and Russian missile defense talks fail? Putin told a U.S. delegation on Friday that Russia will find it difficult to remain in a treaty on the elimination of intermediate and short range missiles unless it is expanded to impose arms restrictions on other states. Putin warned the United States to back off plans for a missile defense system in eastern Europe.
The two sides agreed to further discussions, but Secretary Rice also said the United States will continue talks with Poland and the Czech Republic on the project. The U.S. has said it needs the missile defense system to counter threats from states such as Iran and North Korea. (more)
What about all those Russian bombers invading the air space of other countries? What about those mysterious deaths of folks who just happen to speak out against Putin? What about Putin's political maneuvering to keep himself in charge in Russia? Red State says:
At some point, all of this needs to be addressed via a comprehensive overhaul of American policy towards Russia. We have not had that overhaul yet. I wonder how much time it will take--and how much fewer "that which unites us" will have to number--before such an overhaul takes place.
Live video of Condi Rice here.

Scrapping the entire political system and starting over is fine with me. Clean house. Do away with these lifetime politicians, have term limits. Let's do it.

I may have over-reacted. It's a result of being over-sensitized by the endless barrage of smears on Clinton and Gore. I would feel the same way if it was an unending tirade against Nixon or some other Republican. Enough! My God!
I agree, ours is a two-party system. That doesn't mean I like it. It used to work but it's falling apart now. The presidency is gaining far too much power, our civil rights have been heavily degraded, our demands fall on deaf ears. The Mexican border, for instance.
I always voted for the person and never for the party, and I think that's the only way left to go now. All party loyalties OUT THE WINDOW and let it be known that we want decent, honest leaders regardless of party affiliation.
This used to be the way it was and it may still be. It just needs to be woken up again. If anything would work to get these people back on track, it would be to yank their party following out from underneath them.
Without the certainty of "loyalty votes", maybe we'd get some real Americans in there instead of the horde of hacks we have now.
You think?

Wanted to add that I respect you and our friendship also. This is why I speak out though. You've never known me to be politically correct or use a velvet hammer. I try to punch hard so there's no mistaking my meaning.
Even at that, it still happens...
I do feel that you give way too much lip service to the Republican party. It's your blog and you can certainly say whatever you want on it, as I do, until I get booted off, anyway.
The GOP and the Dems have both become cesspits compared to past years. Seeing you blog in favor of one over the other, hey, seeing anyone do it, inspires me to disagree.
I abandoned all political parties because of their agendas that have nothing to do with the truth or the needs of us Americans. I'm an American first. My loyalty is to my country and to humanity, and not necessarily in that order. There is not one political party on the planet worth 10 seconds of my time.
Do you see what I'm saying?
As for Putin (this post WAS about Putin) that missile defense deal would give us a better radar shield over Russia as well as closer ties to Eastern Europe, both things Putin wants to prevent. He wants to re-create the USSR again. Putin himself has been described as a gangster type, which is accurate. He's a mobster, a mafia type, and he rules through fear and murder. Reminds me greatly of Stalin, in fact.

P.S. What exactly does "loyal to a political party" mean? You know I have never said anything about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky (until this comment), never mentioned it once on this blog. Do a search and find out if you don't believe me.
There are some good Democrats just like there are rotten Republicans. I suppose I do speak in generalities more than I should.
The funny thing is, when I read your first comment this morning, I actually laughed. Because, yesterday I was thinking that I had moved more toward the middle than I had been when I first started this blog. I guess I was wrong about that.

RASTAMAN: You say:
"You can't be loyal to ANY political party and be part of the Resistance against Islam, because these parties all have their own agendas, none of which include repelling Islam itself."
But I ask you, isn't this the American political system? Two parties? What are we supposed to do, drop out and not vote for anybody? I vote for Republicans in most instances, because I agree MORE with them than I do the Democrats.
But I agree with you they are all a bunch of politicians who forget who they represent and what they are in Wahsington for.
But again, what is our alternative?
Fighting Islamic terror is my number 1 objective. If our own government is in complete chaos, then Islam or anybody else, can just waltz in and take over.
Yes we need a change, yes we need to do something but WHAT I ask you?
A third party would be great, I would love to be able to vote Independent, for a candidate that I truly believe in. But the way things are now, that just splits the vote and doesn't result in any good.
I'm at a loss.

My comments were about criticism. They just didn't sound that way. I launched into severe criticism to make a point.
The Republicans take every opportunity to attack any Democrat they can, particularly the Clintons and Al Gore, and create opportunities when none exist, yet are super-sensitive to the slightest criticism of them.
I think the Nobel Committee probably has a political agenda and gave Gore the award as a slap in Bush's face. Which it was. Your response along with every other Republican blog was to immediately sneer at Gore, and this Party Line parroting is what disappointed me. I thought you were above it. Maybe you are but you did slip that time. Even if you do think little of Al Gore, what does that have to do with the Resistance, for one, and why did you repeat that Party nonsense about him inventing the Internet, for the other?
Do you hear the Democrats attacking all the jerks and screwups year after year in the Republican party? I don't. But the Republicans never shut up. The American public is probably as sick to death as I am over the constant vile poison still being bleated on about over Bill Clintons little sex affair. How many years ago was that? They still push the lie that Gore claimed the invention of the Internet. They just don't shut up and do their jobs and a lot of us are damned tired of it. They act like 5 year olds.
No, I'm not hung up on the stolen election. I'm hung up on the continued denial of it when we all know it was. A little honesty goes a long ways.
The Democrats are sob sisters that want to give a home and welfare to every illegal alien, and help pay to build mosques. In simplest terms, anyway. I'm not siding with them. Neither do I side with the Republicans.
This is what nobody seems to get. You can't be loyal to ANY political party and be part of the Resistance against Islam, because these parties all have their own agendas, none of which include repelling Islam itself. Hell, Bush, Republican president who acts like a Democrat, has these Arab Islamists to dinner all the time. They run all over the White House.
So let me put it this way. It's a choice to be made. Sink your mental hooks of allegiance into a political party, over allegiance to your country, your ideals and over your feelings about Islam,
OR
Drop your political affiliations, free your mind and your attitudes and focus on the real problem. That's not some choice I'm dictating, that's the clear reality. Either you can see it or you can't.
It's like being all gaga over some football team and getting all down when they lose. Go get drunk. Ah but when they WIN! Go out and get drunk. Sorry, all you sports fans, but this is dumb. Sorry all you politics fans, but this is dumb.
We have IMPORTANT things to concern ourselves with. Root for the home team, you bet, but if they lose, so what, maybe they'll win another day. Your life should not be affected by it. If it is, you're way off center.

Putin has been pushing hard to try and help the Russians try to reclaim some of their old influence.
Posted by: Jack | October 13, 2007 at 11:52 AM
If you do a little look at Ezekiel 38 & 39, the Gog-Magog War, you will find a list of nations(Magog is a Russian tribe)which includes Russia and Iran(Persia)all the countries listed HAVE mutual treaties. Including Libya and several others. Russia is being drawn into a trap, along with these countries, and it will be their destruction that will be seen.
That is why Putin is saying and ranting like he is, he is in a very tight spot and is deluded into thinking he will be on the winning side.
Keep an eye out and watch those nations align themselves. Bet the rhetoric will sky rocket!

RASTAMAN: I'm very sorry you feel this way, but you are wrong. I'm the same person with the same opinions I had two years ago with I started Right Truth from nothing.
I always try to provide links to differing opinions. I usually try to include quotes from differing opinions.
I have been very outspoken about Bush and his failures, which are many.
I have also been outspoken about the Republicans and their many misteps over the last years.
I do NOT change my opinion of Gore and the Nobel Peace Prize. What Gore is doing has NOTHING to do with world peace.
Nor do I change my opinion on Gore's definition of global warming (climate change). What he puts forth is not science nor is it backed up by all the experts.
I reject the statement you make that I have changed my views of the the last two years. I am still against Islam's rise, I am still against terrorism, I am still against illegal aliens, I am still against and for the same things I started this blog to talk about.
I will still let everybody leave their comments here, whether they agree with me or not. Discussion is good. I will still quote folks from all ends of the political spectrum.
I respect you , your friendship and your firm stand against Islamic terror. But we will have to disagree on some things.

Scew Putin. Build the shield.

Debbie, you used to be very centrist and even-handed in your presentations, and your focus was on truth more than political leanings - which are never truth no matter which way we lean.
Now you sneer at a man for receiving a very prestigious award primarily because he's a Democrat, and secondarily, I think, because he's smart.
You used to be a class act, but turning your blog into a very slanted Republican podium is counter-productive to our original intent. I say "our" as we were "Counterterrorism blog, politics, Islam, terror. I am a voice of the resistance!" as it says at the top of this page.
Not here. Not any more. I've been watching you shift position as your blog grew and got more attention.
Whatever. You're not the first to let your sense of success overwhelm your original intentions and you won't be the last.
